News from NSAMFGC, Nitte | NSS - 33rd Annual Special Camp at Sri Laxmi Janardhana Aided Primary School, Yellare

The NSS units (4 & 5) of Dr. NSAM First Grade College, Nitte, organised a seven-day special camp at Sri Laxmi Janardhana Aided Primary School, Yellare, from 24th to 30th December 2024. A total of 74 volunteers from Dr. NSAM FGC Nitte actively participated in the camp.

The camp was inaugurated by Mr. Dinesh Kini, President, Sri Laxmi Janardhan Education Trust (R), at the Sri Laxmi Janardhana Aided Primary School, Yellare. Mr. Prakash B, IQAC Coordinator of Dr. NSAM FGC Nitte, delivered the keynote speech, followed by cultural programs by the volunteers.

During the seven days, students actively participated in Shramadan by cleaning the school and temple premises. A major contribution was made towards upgrading the school ground. The students trained in Warli art painted murals on the school walls, leaving a lasting mark on the school’s environment.

The culture of Yellare was explored through activities like creating handicrafts, coconut leaf weaving and celebrating ‘Kesar Donji Dina’, with the support of the local community.

A mega Health Camp which included general health, dental & eye check-ups was organised in association with AB Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences, Deralakatte; Nitte-Gajria Hospital, Karkala; Prasad Netralaya, Udupi; Rural Health Care Centre, Donderangadi and NCD Unit, Hebri

Street plays were held to raise awareness about dental hygiene and eye-donation. A program called ‘A Day with Nature’ including a Nursery visit was organised, to raise awareness about nature. The camp also featured a Fire Safety program conducted by the Karkala Fire Station.

Chairs & tables were donated to the school by Nitte University.
