News from NISH | World Hearing Day 2026

Nitte Institute of Speech and Hearing enthusiastically participated in a Walkathon held on 3rd March 2026 to commemorate World Hearing Day 2026. The event was organised by Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), the Dakshina Kannada Indian Speech and Hearing Association (DK ISHA) and all the Speech and Hearing colleges in Mangalore. The Walkathon aimed to raise public awareness about hearing health and emphasize the importance of early detection and intervention for hearing disorders.

The event was flagged off by Sri Mithun HN, IPS, Dy. Commissioner of Police (Law & Order), accompanied by Smt. Geetha D. Kulkarni, ACP, CCRB. The Walkathon concluded at the Town Hall Amphitheatre, where the valedictory session was held in the presence of Dr. Shivaprakash, District Medical Officer (DMO), Wenlock Hospital.

A total of 50 members, including faculty and students from the Nitte Institute of Speech and Hearing, participated in the event, demonstrating their commitment to promoting hearing health awareness.

The event highlighted the importance of early detection, prevention and management of hearing disorders, particularly among children and reinforced the role of healthcare professionals, educators and communities in ensuring accessible hearing care for all.
