As part of its Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) initiatives, Nitte University in association with Nitte University Centre for Science Education & Research (NUCSER) and the NITTE-GOK Centre of Excellence in Aquamarine Innovation organized a felicitation program under SDG 14 – Life Below Water on 29th June 2026 to honour progressive freshwater fish farmer, Sri K. Mahesh Hebbar, at his fish farm in Kukkehalli Village, Brahmavara, Udupi.
Prof. (Dr) Suma Ballal C., Dy. Registrar and Chief Coordinator, SDG Cell, NitteDU highlighted the importance of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the role of individuals and communities in achieving these global objectives, particularly in the area of sustainable aquaculture.
Sri K. Mahesh Hebbar shared his 15-year journey in freshwater aquaculture, reflecting on how he began fish farming, the challenges encountered and the experiences that shaped his success.
Sri K. Mahesh Hebbar was felicitated in the presence of Dr. Suma Ballal; Prof. (Dr) Anirban Chakraborty, Director, NUCSER; Dr. Biswajit Maiti, Head, Bio & Nano Technology; Dr. Praveen Rai, Head, Infectious Diseases & Microbial Genomics, along with faculty members of NUCSER and members of the aquaculture community.
The event witnessed the participation of nearly 50 attendees, including faculty members and local aquaculture stakeholders.
