Sports day conducted by NUCSER on 17th November, 2017 was a grand success. Dr. Gerald Santhosh D’Souza, Deputy Director of Physical Education, Mangalore University was the chief guest. He appreciated the sports facilities developed by Nitte University for the students and staff. He implored the students to participate in sports activities and reap the benefits of fit body and mind. “The benefits of sports cannot be calculated or measured by any economic standards as fitness is priceless and sustained,” he opined and declared the sports event open. Dr.Murali Krishna V., the sports advisor of Nitte University, noted that this was the first sports day event for the current academic year in this newly created facility. He motivated the students and the staff at the sports meet to maintain a lifestyle with adequate time for physical activities. He appreciated the disciplined conduct of the march past by the students. Dr. Indrani Karunasagar welcomed the meet. Ms. Meghana Bhandary, the sports council member conducted the oath ceremony to the participants. Ms. Sanobar Ashoora proposed the vote of thanks.
The first day had a series of athletic track events such as running 100 mts, 200 mts, 400 mts, 800 mts and 100 x 4 relay for men and women. Long jump, Shot put, Javelin and discus throw for men and women. The day concluded with a mighty tussle of tug of war between students and staff. The students won the tug of war.
The second day was eventful with active participation from staff and students at the Paneer campus for court games such as Throw ball, Volley ball and cricket. The team with captaincy of Dr. Anirban Chakraborty, Deputy Director, NUCSER won the cricket game with a comfortable margin. The two days of outdoor games provided the staff and students fresh air and an opportunity to work together as a team. It also provided a platform to several talented sportsmen amongst student community to assess and demonstrate their multifaceted talents. The event was organized by the student welfare committee of the institute under the leadership of Dr. Smitha Hegde. The track events and the games were conducted under the supervision of Mr. Karunakar Shetty, Physical Director, KSHEMA, Mr. Rajaram Shetty, Physical Director, NGSMIPS, and Ms. Bhagya, Physical Director, NUINS.
