News from NUCSER | Silent AMR genes: Should we worry about it?

Drug resistance genotypes are primarily associated with corresponding phenotypic resistance against the particular antibiotic. However, bacterial communities harbouring silent antimicrobial resistance genes - genes whose presence is not associated with a corresponding resistant phenotype exist. 

From the Division of Infectious Diseases (AMR), Nitte University Centre for Science Education and Research (NUCSER), Nitte University, Dr Deekshit in collaboration with Dr Shabarinath from the Department of Food Science, College of Agriculture & Veterinary Medicine, UAE University, Al Ain, UAE published a comprehensive review that discusses the presence of silent AMR genes and their relevance and importance in public health. 

The article was published in a journal of international repute, “The Journal of Applied Microbiology”, a Wiley publication with a high impact factor and citation score.
