The NSS Unit of Nitte University Centre for Science Education & Research (NUCSER) conducted a special camp at Dakshina Kannada Zilla Parishad Higher Primary School, Bagambila, Kotekar Panchayat, Deralakatte, Mangalore from 21st to 26th February 2023.
The program was inaugurated by Mr. Vikram, Health Inspector of Kotekar Panchayat and Mr. Praveen, President, Kotekar Pattana Panchayat by lighting the lamp. Mr. Vikram expressed the necessity of conducting such camps at all the schools of the Panchayat.
Presiding over the program, Dr. Anirban Chakraborty, Director, NUCSER spoke on the importance of interaction with children of Government schools and extended an invitation to the school to visit NUCSER. The formal function was concluded with the vote of thanks by Dr. Rama Adiga, NSS Coordinator.
In the week-long program, the NSS volunteers conducted various activities for the children under the theme ‘Learning while playing’.
The activities on the first day included drawing competition where the students showcased their skills & talent. The 2nd & 3rd day activities were conducted in 2 groups, where the younger children were involved in developing their dancing skills. On the 3rd & 4th day, students were given awareness on the harmful effects of smoking & drug abuse and advised to refrain from such bad habits. The last event of day 4 was talent hunt. The 5th & final day activities were related to oral hygiene, dental care & cleanliness. Dr. Manju, Pedodontist, ABSMIDS demonstrated the proper method for brushing and oral hygiene.
The NSS Unit donated a RO-water filter to provide clean drinking water in the school.
