Prof. Ricardo León-Bórquez, President of the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME), USA, was felicitated by Nitte (Deemed to be University) on Sunday.
The WFME, renowned as a common global platform for establishing universally accepted principles and standards for medical education, has recently extended its recognition to the degrees conferred by medical schools in India under the National Medical Commission of India.
On October 1, 2023, Prof. Ricardo León-Bórquez, accompanied by distinguished dignitaries Prof. Vedprakash Mishra, President of the Association of Medical Educators of India, Prof. Russel F. D’Souza, Director of Education and UNESCO Chair in Bioethics at the University of Haifa, and Prof. Mary Mathew, Secretary of the Association of Medical Educators of India, visited the campuses of Nitte (Deemed to be University) located in Mangalore and Nitte.
During their visit, they had the privilege of engaging with key figures in the University's leadership, including Chancellor Sri. N Vinaya Hegde, Prof. Dr. M.S. Moodithaya, Vice-Chancellor of Nitte (Deemed to be University), Prof. Dr. Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Vice-President of Institutional Social Responsibilities (ISR), Nitte DU, alongside other university officials, faculty members, and students.
On this occasion, Prof. Ricardo León-Bórquez was felicitated by Nitte University, as an acknowledgment of his exceptional contributions to the field of medical education on a global scale. He was accompanied by his spouse Ms. Maria Ellena.
During his address at the event, Prof. Ricardo expressed his admiration for the high-quality medical education provided in India and voiced his optimism that the WFME's recognition of the National Medical Commission will serve as a catalyst for further elevating the standards of medical training.
Prof. Vedprakash Mishra commended universities like Nitte for their outstanding commitment to education and urged them to mentor and support other institutions to collectively enhance the overall quality of medical education in the country. Prof. Russel F. D’Souza lauded the university's efforts in promoting the importance of bioethics among its students.
