Inauguration of Dr. K R Shetty Centre for Tulu Studies

“Dr. K R Shetty's commitment and straightforward personality will always be remembered. Nitte University's Centre for Tulu Studies will henceforth function in his name. A renowned neurologist, Dr. Shetty had keen interest in the study of Tulunadu, its language and culture. Nitte University will support research in this area, in his memory” - said Sri N Vinaya Hegde, Chancellor, Nitte University during the inaugural function of the Centre for Tulu Studies.

Pro-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shantharama Shetty launched the Tamil to Tulu and Konkani translation projects funded by the Central Institute of Classical Tamil, Chennai by presenting veelya to fourteen translators.

The architect and contractors who designed the Centre to reflect the Tulu culture, were honored on this occasion. Certificates were distributed to the participants of the recently completed Yakshagana Value Added Course.

Prof. (Dr) M S Moodithaya, Vice-Chancellor and Prof. (Dr) Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Vice-President (ISR &CRL) conveyed their best wishes. Family members of Late Dr. KR Shetty – Dr. Divakar Shetty, Dr. Sudheer Hegde, Dr. Prabhavathi were present. Dr. Sayeegeetha welcomed the gathering and briefed the ongoing activities and projects in hand. Smt. Vijayalakshmi Kateel was the master of ceremony. Sri Deevith S K Perady rendered the prayer in Yakshagana style. Mr. Shashikumar Shetty, NSS Coordinator, Nitte DU concluded the program with the vote of thanks.
