News from NUCSER | Faculty Development Program on Good Clinical Practices in Health Research

Nitte University Centre for Science Education and Research (NUCSER) in association with the Staff Development Centre, Nitte (DU) successfully conducted a one-day Faculty Development Program on Good Clinical Practices in Health Research on 19th March 2026 at the Seminar Hall, NUCSER. The Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr) Sandeep Rai, Dean, KSHEMA addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of Good Clinical Practice (GCP). The scientific sessions covered key aspects of Good Clinical Practices and research ethics.

The first session on the Principles of ICH-GCP (R3) was delivered by Dr. Ashok Shenoy, Professor, Dept. of Pharmacology, Kasturba Medical College, Mangaluru. This was followed by a session on Responsibilities of Institutional Ethics Committees (IEC) and Ethical Review Procedures by Dr. Shivashankar A R, Professor, Dept. of Biochemistry, Fr. Muller Medical College, Mangaluru.

Prof. (Dr) Ravichandra, HoD, Pharmacology, KSHEMA conducted an informative session on Informed Consent Process as per the ICMR Ethics Guidelines 2017, highlighting participants' rights and ethical compliance.

Post-lunch sessions included Public Health Research Ethics by Dr. Animesh Jain, Professor, Dept. of Community Medicine, Kasturba Medical College, Mangaluru and Review of AI/ML Protocols in Biomedical Research by Prof. (Dr) Sudhir Prabhu, HoD, Community Medicine, Fr. Muller Medical College, Mangaluru addressing emerging challenges in modern research. The final technical session on Good Documentation Practices as per ICMR Guidelines 2017 was delivered by Dr. Prakash Patil, Assoc. Professor, Central Research Laboratory, K S Hegde Medical Academy.

A total of 56 faculty members from various constituent colleges of Nitte University attended the workshop. The workshop concluded with a Q&A session, discussion and post-assessment to evaluate participants’ understanding. Dr. Divyashree M, Member Secretary, NUCSER Ethics Committee and Dr. Praveen Rai, Head, Department of Infectious Diseases & Genomics, coordinated the program.
