Topic: CADD (Compute Aided Drug Design): Impact on Drug Development

Dr. Anand Raichurkar, Senior Research Scientist, Astra Zeneca (India) Ltd. delivered a talk on CADD
(Compute Aided Drug Design): Impact on Drug Development on 5th  May 2014.
Computer Aided Drug Design (CADD) gives an insight to computer-assisted techniques used to discover,/> design, and optimize new, effective and safe drugs. Recent technological developments in biochemistry, biomedical science, and nanotechnology have made computer-aided drug design and delivery systems thpossible on a molecular basis. The objective of drug design is to find a chemical compound that can fit to a specific cavity on a protein target both geometrically and chemically.  It is generally recognized that drug discovery and development are very time and resources consuming processes. CADD helps in identifying a molecule that may have greater affinity for a particular receptor which might give an efficacious drug. The main benefit of the CADD is cost effectiveness and speed in research and development of drugs.

He gave a brief introduction about Drug Discovery and CADD. Talk also covered role of CADD in Drug Discovery, Case Studies, Comp Chem Impact of DNA GyrB,  Ligand (Fast Follower) and structure Based approaches, to generate novel scaffold and overcoming IP issues, Use of Crystal structure information for hydbridization, Virtual screening, Fragment to Hit: MTMK, NAD focused Library: Ligand and structure based approach, MtSK: QSAR and docking based hypothesis generation, Hit Triage and Hit evaluation Lead, Hit evaluation cascade, WholeCell screening, FBLG screening MInhA and QSPR: PPB modeling. The talk was attended by the faculty members of NGSMIPS.
Outcome:
