Pink Ribbon Day

Obstetrics & Gynaecological Nursing department, NUINS in collaboration with Youvathi Mandal (Sasihithlu), Navodaya Mahila Mandal & Halevidyarthiyara Sanga (Sasihithlu); organized a “Breast Cancer Awareness Camp” on the observation of Pink Ribbon Day on 25th of October 2014 at Sasihithlu, Surathkal with the theme “ Early Detection Better Protection”. Assoc. Prof. (Mrs.) Philomena Fernandes, HOD of OBG (N) Dept. of Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences, was the Resource person and the programme coordinator for the day.




Mass Health Education programme - NUINS

As a part of community health nursing posting, the students of 2nd year PBBSc Nursing organized Mass Health Education programme on “care of under five children” on 23-10-2014 near Kattemar, Manjanady under Natekal PHC. Students has taken the initiation to explain charts on various topics like care of under five children –immunization, nutrition, growth monitoring, and preventive care. All the students had actively participated in the programme and clarified the doubts of groups. Around 25-30 family members were benefited with the programme.

Health Camp / Outreach Program at Kshema

Department of Community Medicine of K. S. Hegde Medical Academy organized a Health check-up and talk for Hejamadi Anganwadi children and their mothers on 14 October 2014. This programme was conducted by MBBS intern Dr. Salma H Walikar, with the help of Ms. Tejakshi, anganwadi teacher. This camp was conducted under the supervision from Dr. Usha Rani, PG Dept of Community Medicine and the guidance of Dr. Sandeep Patil, Asst. Prof. Dept of Community Medicine and Mr.Santhosh N.P, Social worker Dept of Community Medicine. All students were examined personal hygiene physical parameters, nutritional status, dental hygiene and various health issues. Health talk was given on Anemia for mothers of anganwadi children by Dr. Salma H Walikar and Dr. Usha Rani. One of the mother was found to be Anaemic ANC case and was referred to higher centre for further management. All children were found to be healthy and had average personal and dental hygiene.

Mirchi Campus Stars 2014 - NUINS

A state level Radio Mirchi Talent Hunt Season- 6 was organized in collaboration with Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences, SNA unit at KSHEMA auditorium on 16th October 2014, from 2pm to 6pm. The students of NUINS exhibited their talents in the events . In the search to Identify the best singer, dancer & model. Ms. Tsewang Lahamo 1 dancer, Mr.Basanth Savanth I best models. Ms Ann Mary II Rajya bubbly girl respectively. st st B.sc ( N) was selected an best singer & Bsc( N) and Ms .Tsewang Lahamo selected as nd Bsc( N) was selected as a Vijaya Karnataka.



Observation of World Mental Health Week -2014 - NUINS

Observation of World Mental Health Week -2014 (From 7-10-2014 to 10-10-2014) The department of Psychiatric Nursing were collaborated with department of Psychiatry KSHEMA, Nitte Rural Psychiatric centre, Karkala, Nitte, Sevanjali Prathishtana Farangipete and Rotary Club Bantwala, Mangalore, Dharmastala Grama Abhivridhi Yojana,Mudipu, and Vinothana Youth Club Vitla for the Observation of World mental health Week -2014. On 7 th the programme was inaugurated in Nitte Rural Rehabilitation Center, Nitte, Karkala. .Sri .N. Vinay Hegde chancellor, Nitte University inaugurated the prgramme by lighting the lamp. The significance of the Mental health was emphasized by Dr. Sathish Rao HOD department of Psychiatry, KSHEMA. After the inaugural programme the role-play was enacted by the students on the theme “Living with Schizophrenia”. Total 1000 population from rural community of D.K District were benefited from this awareness programme.

KARNEOCON 2014 - Kshema

KARNEOCON 2014, the 17th Karnataka State Neonatology Conference was held between 11-12 October 2014 at Mangalore. The Department of Paediatrics, KSHEMA hosted the pre-conference workshop on “Technology and Gadgets in NICU” on 10th October at the Clinical Skills Lab, 2nd Floor Justice K S Hegde Hospital. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr Karuna Ramesh Kumar, Medical Superintendent, Justice K S Hegde Hospital and graced by the Dean, Dr Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, KSHEMA. The theme of the workshop was to discuss and demonstrate latest gadgets and equipments used in neonatology to improve the care of the newborns. Additionally a session on vascular access was also done. The faculty included eminent neonatologists from Manipal hospital, Bangalore. Delegates comprised of consultant and practicing pediatricians, postgraduates and nurses from all over Karnataka. The workshop and the facilities at the clinical skills lab were well appreciated. The Department of Paediatrics is extremely grateful to KSHEMA and Nitte University for encouragement and constant support to all over endeavours.




ANNUAL SPORTS DAY- “SPORTIF JOUR -2014” - NUINS

The annual sports day SPORTIF JOUR 2014 of Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences was held on 10 th October 2014, at Mangalore University Ground, Konaje. Mr. Paulson Thomas, Former National athlete & NUINS alumnus was the Chief Guest. Track and field events were conducted for the students and staff. Overall Championship was bagged by III GNM Students. The Individual Champion of Boys & Girls were Mr. Hashkar of I BS.c(N) & Ms. Niji V.A of III GNM respectively.

WORLD HEART DAY CELEBRATION AT K.S.HEGDE HOSPITAL

As part of the World Heart Day Celebration, K.S.Hegde Medical Academy organized Inter School and College competitions, which was  held on 21/08/2014  at Vimshathi Bahavan  from 10.00am to 4.30pm. The following competitions were organized:











a) Drawing- For 5th & 6th Std (69 students participated) Topic: Heart Healthy Environment.
b) Essay - For 7th & 8th Std (40 students participated) Topic: Join the Global Move on healthy heart
c) Quiz - For 9th & 10th Std (96 students participated) Topic: Medical & General Knowledge.
d) Special Talent- For 8th to 10th Std (13 students participated)
e) Extempore Speech - For I and II PUC (2 students participated) Topic: Related to Health.

A total of  220 students participated in this event  from schools and colleges of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada  urban and rural areas and made it a grand success.

KSHEMA also conducted a cardiac marathon walk in association with IMA, Mangalore on 28.09.2014 from Ramabhavan Complex, Kodialbail to IMA Hall, Milagress via Bunts Hostel to celebrate the World Heart Day and bring awareness about cardiac diseases and its prevention. The following guests were present during the flag off ceremony which took place at Ramabhavan Complex at 8 am sharp.

There were approximately 600 participants for the marathon walk which ended at IMA Hall.It was followed by the prize distribution ceremony for the winners of the various competitions.


Public Awareness Program - KSHEMA

The Department of E.N.T K S Hegde Medical Academy and Nitte Institute of Speech and Hearing, in association with the “Lions Club, Mangalore” organized a Public Awareness Program "Deafness awareness programme as a part of “ WORLD DEAFNESS DAY” on 30-09-2014 . Prof(Dr)Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Dean of K S Hegde Medical Academy inaugurated the program. Sri Ivan D’Souza, member of legislative council, Govt of Karnataka, was the chief guest on the occasion. Hearing assessment of high risk population including drivers and those who work in noicy environment was done by the ENT specialists of K S Hegde Hospital and Audiologists of Nitte institute of speech and hearing, Derlakatte. More than 60 people underwent screening test during the program.

NSS camp inaugural - NIPT

Nitte institute of physiotherapy, Nitte University Organized their special NSS Camp in Infant Jesus Higher Secondary school, Modankapu, Bantwal taluk,. BC Road on 13-10-2014 Monday. Special camp was Inaugurated by Rev Father Anil joyal D” souza, Chief priest, Infant Jesus church, Modankapu. The camp inauguration was presided by Sri Malley swamy, Thashildar, Bantwal taluk. Principal Dr Dhanesh kumar gave a welcome address to the gathering. Rotarian prakash karanth, Lion Dr Vasanth baliga, Lion Sadanand shetty , Prof Ajith s ,were the chief guests .. NSS Programme officer Mr Subash Chandra Rai gave the vote of Thanks.

NITTE University donates Rs 25 lacs towards PM's Relief Fund for J&K

The students, Teaching and Non-teaching staff and Management of Nitte Group of Institutions located at Mangalore, Bangalore and Nitte contributed Rs. 25 lakhs to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. The DD for Rs. 25 lakhs to be used for rehabilitation of flood victims at Jammu & Kashmir was handed over to Sri. A.B. Ibrahim, the Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada District by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Nitte University, Dr. S. Ramananda Shetty. Dr. M. S. Moodithaya, Registrar, Nitte University, Dr. Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Dean, KSHEMA, Mr. Hemanth Shetty, Public Relations Coordinator and a team of students from Jammu and Kashmir pursuing their studies with Nitte group were present on the occasion. On behalf of the Government and District Administration, the DC thanked the Chancellor of the University, Sri. N.V. Hegde and the Staff and the Students of all the Institutions of the Nitte Group for their generous gesture.

KALA VAIBHAV 2014-15 - NUINS

The cultural fest KALA VAIBHAV 2014-15 was celebrated by the cultural committee on 6th and 7th of October ,2014 from 9:00am-4:00pm at KSHEMA auditorium. The musical event was on 6th and dance events on 7th and the literary events on 8th. Dumb charades was held on 8-10-2014 from 2pm to 4pm.Good discipline was maintained by all the students. All the students from every batch participated in all the programs with great interest. All the performances of the students were appreciable and remarkable. On 6th , by 8am ,we started our cultural fest with the inauguration ,by lighting the lamp. Ms. Tintu Tomichan (III BSC) ,cultural committee chairperson welcomed the Principal, judges, teaching and non teaching staffs and students. On 8th at 2-4 pm we conducted our last event dumb charades. Students from all the batches participated in all the events with a competitive spirit The overall championship was bagged by III BSC (N).











Inter-Collegiate Skit Competition on Ethical issues in Health Care - Kshema


UNESCO Chair in Bioethics, South India Unit, FMMC, Mangalore organized an “Inter-collegiate skit competition on Ethical issues in health care” in association with Manipal Unit of UNESCO Chair in Bioethics, KMC Manipal and Mangalore Unit of UNESCO Chair in Bioethics, KMC, Mangalore on 22nd September 2014 at Father Muller Medical College, Mangalore. 



Dr. Russel D’Souza (Head of Asia-Pacific Unit, UNESCO Bioethics Chair), Mrs. Asha Nayak (Senior Advocate in Mangalore & Former Chairperson of Child Welfare Committee of Dakshina Kannada District), Fr. Praveen Leo Lasrado (Professor of Moral Theology at St Joseph Seminary, Mangalore), and Dr. GK Bhat (President-elect, IMA, Mangalore) judged the competition.

The students from K S Hegde Medical Academy participated in this event and enacted the theme of "Six Sins" depicting the six "A"s of unethical medical practice i.e. adultery, association, addiction, alcohol, advertisement, abortion and bagged second place and also cash prize of Rs.3000.The students who participated were:

The 8th IAP Postgraduates Quiz - Kshema

The 8th IAP Postgraduates Quiz Mangalore Divisional Round was held on 26.09.2014 at Seminar Hall, Justice K S Hegde Hospital. Dr Varadaraj Shenoy, Professor and former Head, Father Muller’s Medical College was the chief guest and inaugurated the quiz. Dr Ashwij Shreyan, Secretary, IAP Dakshina Kannada Branch, presided over the function. Dr Vijaya Shenoy Prof & Head, Department of Paediatrics and Divisional Co-coordinator welcomed the gathering. Nine colleges including the colleges from Mangalore, Manipal, Mysore and Hassan took part in the Quiz. Dr Rathika D Shenoy, Professor, Department of Paediatrics was the quiz master. Kasturba Medical College, Manipal were the winners and Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, were the first runners-up. The programme was well appreciated by participants and audience. The Department of Paediatrics is extremely grateful to the Dean , KSHEMA for gracing the occasion and distributing prizes. We are extremely thankful to KSHEMA and Nitte University for the constant encouragement and support for conducting such programmes.
