Women safety and Empowerment – GUEST TALK - NUINS

NSS unit of Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences organized a guest talk on "Women safety and Empowerment” in collaboration with Women cell of NUINS on 21-11-2014 at Seminar hall Justice K. S Hegde Charitable hospital, Deralakatte. The programme started at 2.00pm with invocation followed by welcome speech by Mrs. Timi Thomas. Mrs. Bharathi G. Sub- Inspector, Ullal Police Station, Resource person of the day inaugurated the programme and interacted with all participants. She focused how women can bring the change in the society; it was a very informative and excellent session with discussion. Active demonstration and re-demonstration was carried out by Mr. Prasanna and Mrs. Sumithra- Police, Ullal Police station about women safety. On this occasion Prof. Fatima D’Silva, Principal College of Nursing and Prof. Shynee Paul, PG co- ordinator NUINS were present. The program was compared by Ms. Preeveena, Asst. Lecturer, NUINS. The programme ended with vote of thanks by Mrs. Suchithra B S, NSS Programme officer NUINS. About 100 participants from all the constituent college of Nitte University were benefited from the programme.









Mass health education - NUINS

Department of Child Health Nursing, Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences, along with III rd year BSc(N) students organized health education on the topic “Hand Hygiene” to the 140 school children of St. Joseph’s Paneer Primary School on 20 th November 2014. Sr. Treesa the Principal of the school gave a warm welcome and introduced us to the students. The topics were dealt on ‘Steps of Hand Hygiene’. The routine hand hygiene steps to be practiced daily, was taught by Ms Deepa, Ms Aishwarya [IIIrd BSC (N)] with the help of LCD illustrating their explanations with pictures and also with demonstration.The student’s re- demonstrated the procedure. At the end of the health talk we thanked the Principal, teachers and students for their co-operation and presented them sweets.





KSHEMA JYOTHY DAY CARE CENTRE

“KSHEMA JYOTHI” DAY CARE CENTRE was inaugurated by Hon’ble Health Minster Shri U.T. Khader on October 18th, 2014 . The Programme started with the Inauguration of the DAY CARE CENTRE on the VIth Floor of the Justice K.S. Hegde Charitable Hospital at 10.A.M. After the inauguration the stage programme was conducted in the Seminar Hall of the hospital IInd Floor with Prayer and Lighting the lamp. The Welcome Address was given by the Vice Chancellor of Nitte University, Dr.(Prof.)Ramanada Shetty , Introduction to the concept of Daycare Centre was by the H.O.D. Of Psychiatry , Dr. Satheesh Rao.In the same venue the Briefing by Dr. Sikender Pasha, District Mental Health Programme Officer regarding state government’s partnership in the same .Hon’ble Health Minister Shri U.T. Khader was the Chief Guest. In the same Venue , the honouring of Dr.Naveenchandra, Director Nitte Rural Psychiatry Centre was done by the dignitaries The Chief guest & Inaugurator Shri U.T. Khader , the Health Minister gave the inaugural address. The Presidential address was given by Shri. N. Vinaya Hegde , Chancellor, Nitte University. Vote of Thanks given by Dr. Satheesh K. Bhandary, Dean , KSHEMA . “KSHEMA JYOTHY” Day Care Centre will provide continued mental health care service to patients. The centre will facilitate the needy people with occupational therapy.The day Care centre can accommodate 40 persons (20 male and 20 female) and will operate from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. They were trained to begin the day with prayer and also taught simple yoga and excise by the Yoga Therapist. This enhanced the inmates to concentrate in prayer and also through yoga & excise to maintain their health fit. They were taught to make small greeting cards to improve their creativity and concentration. Through the games like caroms, chess inmates were taught to use their mental energy to constructive output. Tailoring also taught to the inmates by stitching and repairing their own clothes and the clothes of other inmates. In the process they learnt to keep their clothes tidy and presentable. In this way the whole day in day-care help the inmates to inculcate a structured active day which promoted towards structured and productive life.

Lamp Lighting Ceremony -NUINS

SNA unit of NUINS organized the lamp lighting ceremony for the 23rd batch of B.Sc.(N) and Diploma students on 22nd & Finance. Dr. Elsa Sanatombi Devi HOD of Dept. of Medical Surgical Nursing, Manipal College of Nursing, Manipal University was the Chief Guest, she spoke on “Significance of Lamp lighting and Responsibilities of the Nurses”. On this occasion Mrs. Aruni. G, Lecturer college of Nursing welcomed the gathering. Significance of the day was explained by Ms. Jewel Pinto, 3rd year B.Sc.(N) student. The students were led into the profession with their lamps lit by the dignitaries. Mrs. Sarita Fernandes, SNA advisor carried out the oath taking ceremony. The presidential address was given by Prof. (Mrs) Fatima D’Silva, Principal College of Nursing. At the end of the program the vote of thanks was proposed by Mrs. Sharal Tellis, Co-ordinator of 1st year Diploma Nursing. November 2014 at Institute of Banking.

A talk by Prof. Gopal - ABSMIDS

The NSS unit of ABSMIDS, Nitte University organized a talk by Prof. Gopal, Dept. Of Economics, Dhavala College, Moodabidri, for the 1st Year BDS students on 15.11.14 at Vimshthi Bhavan from 11:00 PM-12:00 Noon. The talk aimed at introducing 1st year BDS students to NSS activities and its importance in personality development. Fifty six 1st BDS students attended the programme.




Health programme on “Sanitation and inclusion in School” - NUINS

NSS unit of Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences organized school health programme in collaboration with Editorial committee of NUINS, as a part of National education day. It was organized at District Primary School Nitte, Karkala on 14-11-2014. The theme of the programme was “Sanitation and inclusion in School”. The programme started at 11.30 am. Total 25 NSS volunteers actively participated in the programme. Mrs. Aruni, Lecturer welcomed the gathering. Mrs. Suchithra B S, NSS programme officer, NUINS, gave talk on importance of hygiene, and maintenance of it in daily life. NSS volunteers actively demonstrated the hand washing technique and school students re-demonstrated. Games were conducted for school children and Mrs. Nalini, co-ordinator editorial committee distributed the prizes to them. All teachers and NSS volunteers along with School children were involved in cleaning the school campus. The Programme ended at 1.30pm.

The inauguration of Pharmacovigilance centre - NGSMIPS

The inauguration of Pharmacovigilance centre of K.S.Hegde Medical Academy & Hospital and NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Paneer, Deralakatte was held on 12th November 2014. The centre has been established to observe and document the adverse drug reaction in Justice K.S.Hegde Charitable Hospital. The centre will be expanding its reach to the community pharmacy and other hospitals of the region. Dr. M.S Moodithaya, Registrar, Nitte University inaugurated the centre and in his address he stressed on the interdisciplinary approach in the area of health care to provide the best service to the patients. Dr. C.S.Shastry, Dean, NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences presented the over view of the pharmacovigilance centre and explained the need of such centres. It is very important to monitor the adverse reaction of the drugs to ensure the safety and efficacy of the drugs. Dr. Satish Bhandary, Dean, K.S.Hegde Medical Academy Dr.Karuna Ramesh, Medical Superintendent, Justice K.S.Hegde Charitable Hospital and Dr. Rajendra Holla were present. Dr. Rajendra Holla welcomed the guests and Dr. D.S.Puranik proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was anchored by Ms. Neethu Fathima Ummar.



CHILDRENS DAY CELEBRATION 2014 - NUINS

Department of Child Health Nursing celebrated Children’s day Programme in Sneha Sadan, Kaikamba, Kinnikambla, Mangalore on 14 th November 2014. Pediatric MSc (N) students and 25 III year B.Sc (N) students conducted health education and role play on personal hygiene and hand washing. Followed by the role play and health education entertainment programmes like dance, games (musical chair, memory game, passing the ball) were conducted. Personal hygiene kits and pencil boxes where gifted to the children. Sweets and chocolates were distributed in the end of the programme. A donation of Rs 2700/- contributed by NUINS was handed over. 48 children benefited from the program.






Children's day and Pedodontist day - ABSMIDS

he Department of Pedodontics & Preventive Dentistry Headed by Prof (Dr) Amitha M. Hegde and supported by Prof (Dr) Manju R, Dr. Amarshree Shetty, Dr. Nikita Lolayekar, Dr. Mohammed Shaji celebrated Pedodontists Day and Childrens day on 14th November, 2014. The programme was inaugurated by Prof (Dr) Ramananda Shetty, Prof (Dr) N. Sridhar Shetty, Prof (Dr) B. Rajendra Prasad, Prof (Dr) U.S.Krishna Nayak, Prof ( Dr) Mithra N. Hegde, Prof (Dr) Biju Thomas, Prof Rajshekar. Children from Harekala Govt School and St. Sabastian School were invited for the celebration where 3 table clinics were displayed by 2nd year M.D.S. students and 5 poster presentation by 1st year M.D.S students. A fun filled ‘Spin the wheel’ educative game was organised for the children and the winners were rewarded. All the kids were given refreshments and tooth pastes as positive reinforcement.

MASS HEALTH EDUCATION- NUINS

 Dept. of Community Health Nursing, along with IV Year B.Sc Nursing Students conducted mass health education at Thanadagudde, Nitte village on 6/11/2014 at 5.00pm. Mr. Jagamohan Rai, member from Thanadagudde village was the chief guest. The mass health education programme was initiated by performing a roll play by Sr. Leena and group which was followed by health education event and the topics were Women’s health, Vector borne diseases & its management and Blindness & Eye Donation. More than 120 audiences benefited by the health education. After the mass health education programme, cultural event was organised where community members took part actively.




NUTRITION PROGRAMME-NUINS

As a part of Rural Residential community health nursing posting, Dept. of CHN & 4 th year B.Sc Nursing students conducted Nutrition programme at Thanadagudda, Nitte on 6/11/2014 at 10am at Mr. Chandrasekhar Kamath’s house. The topic of the program was Weaning Diet & Nutrition for the under five Children. A number of nutritious dishes like Ragi porridge, Bread toast, smashed banana, aloo paratha, boiled egg Hyderabad mixture & vegetable rice cake were demonstrated and explained to the community. Nearly 35-40 members had attended the program.

NSS ORIENTATION PROGRAMME - NUINS

NSS unit of Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences organized a NSS orientation programme for newly enrolled NSS volunteers (1st yr B. Sc Nursing) on 08/11/14 at Seminar Hall, Justice K. S Hegde Charitable Hospital. The programme started at 11.00am with invocation. Mrs. Suchithra B.S, NSS Programme Officer welcomed the gathering. Dr. Muralee Mohan, NSS co-ordinator motivated the student about NSS activity. Mr. Gopal, Assoc. Prof. Dept. Of Economics Davala College Moodbidri, Inaugurated the program and oriented the students about Vision, Mission, Objectives and activities of NSS. It was very interactive and interesting session. He also shared his personal experience with NSS to the students. On this occasion Prof. Fatima D’Silva, Principal College of nursing and Prof. Sabitha Nayak, Vice principal NUINS were present. The programme ended with the vote of thanks by Ms. Preeveena, Asst. Lecturer, NUINS. The program was compared by Ms. Jewel Pinto 3rd BSc nursing student. On this occasion prizes were given to the winners of poster competation on Swachh Bharat held on 1-10-2014. Mr. Denzil 4 th BSc (N) won the first prize, Ms. Steona 3 rd BSc (N) got II prize and Ms. Sarita and Ms. Shruty I st GNM got 3rd Prize for the competition.
