K.S.Hegde Medical Academy on behalf of Nitte University celebrated the 66th Republic Day on 26th January 2015 at the Campus. Dr. Vasanthi Shetty, Professor Emeritus, department of OB&G hoisted the flag on this occasion. She addressed the gathering and insisted on keeping the spirit of Gandhi in the nation. She also requested the young crowd to develop the quality of social responsibility and commitment towards the development and the nation in the right sense. Students of KSHEMA recited the patriotic song on this occasion. There was a parade from the Security Personnel of the University under the leadership of Mr. Babu, the Security Supervisor. Dr. M.S. Moodithaya, Registrar, Nitte University, Dr. Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Dean, K.S.Hegde Medical Academy, Heads of the institutions, staff and the students of various institutions under Nitte University were present on this occasion.

Workshop at Kshema
Medical Education Unit of K.S.Hegde Medical Academy organized a workshop for II nd year Postgraduates on 09/12/2014 at Lecture hall 5, 3rd floor, K S Hegde Medical Academy. Dr Harish S Permi, Coordinator of MEU, welcomed the speakers and participants. Mr Sanal, Statistician demonstrated Data Entry & detailed about SPSS10 software. Dr Rashmi Associate professor of community medicine discussed about abstract writing for conference presentation, Poster and oral presentation. Dr Rathika Shenoy, Professor of Paediatrics, on publishing articles during post graduation. Fifty five second year postgraduates attended the workshop. They had good interaction with the speakers.

Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan at NGSMIPS
NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Paneer and NSS unit of the institution organized Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan at institutional level on 13th January, 2015 at college premises, at 3.00 pm. During the programme, teaching and non-teaching staff members, NSS programme officer and students of NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences cleaned the Nitte University Paneer Campus and adjacent area.

"School Screening Camps" on 13-01-2015 at Rosario School, Pandeshwara, Mangalore - Kshema
The Department of Ophthalmology organized a Health Camp / Outreach Program, "School Screening Camps" on 13-01-2015 at Rosario School, Pandeshwara, Mangalore.
505 students were screened in this camp, out of which 35 students was diagnosed with refractive error and 31 students were prescribed glasses and remaining students were referred to the hospital

SWACHH BHARAT - NUINS
NSS unit of Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences organized a Swachh
Bharat at Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences campus on 13-1-2015. Total 200
NSS Volunteers in different groups with one NSS programme officer actively
participated in the programme.
Along with NSS volunteer’s faculty of NUINS also were involved in the
shramadan. We began the Shramadan at 9.00am- 10 am, 12pm-1.00pm and
3.00pm-4.00 pm. All NSS Volunteers took great initiative in cleaning the College
campus. The NUINS Hostel Premises also cleaned by the group of students. It was
a good opportunity for all of them to take leadership in doing such activity.
Workshop conducted for High School Teachers - NGSMIPS
NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences arranged for a one day workshop to the teachers of schools and colleges of Dakshina Kannada in various aspects of pharmaceutical sciences such as the methods of extraction of drugs, synthesis of drugs, how to prepare various formulations and test them on animals. The workshop was held in two sessions. In the morning session the teachers from different departments explained the basics of the drug manufacturing and testing followed by the practical demonstrations in all the above areas in the evening session.
The workshop was followed by a small presentation and video of Nitte Group of institutions.
The feedback by the teachers suggests that they were benefited immensely and thanked the institute for organizing the workshop.

Of the 153 teams participated, our school team of Samarth and N N Advith got selected for the semi finals to be held at Bangalore on 16th January, 2015.

An industry- Institute interaction was organized by the Industry - Institute Collaboration and Placement Cell of NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Paneer, Deralakattte, Mangalore on 5th January 2015.
Dr. K. Bopanna, President and CEO, Semler Research Centre Pvt.Ltd, Bangalore along with his colleagues Dr. Nagendra and Mr. K. Ram Prasanna visited the college and interacted with the faculty and the students.
Dr. K.Boapnna initiated the discussion by giving an overview of Semler Research Centre Pvt.Ltd, formulations manufactured as well as a brief idea about phase I clinical trials which is the focus area of the company.
The session was made interactive by questions posed by the students on pharmacovigilance, competition in the area of clinical trials, expectations from the students by the pharma companies, regulatory affairs etc. Dr. K.Bopanna, Mr. Nagendra and Mr. Ram Prasanna cited few examples and explained the expectations of the industry. He concluded the session by emphasising on the ethical values, essential to be a successful professional in our respective workplace. The discussions were very inspiring and informative for the students. This session was followed by a meeting of the speakers with the teaching staff on the future of Pharmacy profession in India as well as the expectations of the company from the fresh pharmacy graduates. Dr. Mudit Dixit, Co-coordinator-Department of Drug regulatory affairs accompanied the team of speakers for a walk around the college campus.
Dr. C.S.Shastry, Principal of the college proposed the vote of thanks for sharing their experience and knowledge with students and staff members of the institution. He appreciated Dr.K.Bopanna for assuring all possible help in the placement of the students.

Fourth Nitte International Conference on Higher Education: Special Emphasis on Management Education -JKSHIM
Dr. Satinder Dhiman , MBA Director and Chair, School of Business, Woodbury University, USA, inaugurating the 4th International Conference on Management Education said that B Schools in India have to constantly and extension. He further said that practically in all spheres like admission, curriculum development, evaluation and accreditation, learner centred approach shall be followed.
Two-day International Conference is being organised by the Justice K S Hegde Institute of Management, Nitte.
Dr. Michael Page, Provost and Vice-President for Academic Affairs, Bentley University, USA, expressed the opinion that B-Schools should satisfy the needs of the society instead of concentrating only on job. He also released the 16th Issue of the Nitte Management Review, a research journal of the Institute Dr. Dianne Lynne Bevelander, Professor of Management Education Rotterdam School of Management, The Netherlands, pointedly argued that in B-Schools, almost all over the world woman are not getting opportunities of employment. She attacked the male dominated system of Management Education. Shri N Vinaya Hegde, Chancellor of Nitte University, making presidential remarks argued that management education is not meant for only business world, management for life and social well–being should be the main goal of management education. Dr. N. K. Thingalaya, Dr. K. Sankaran, Dr. G V Joshi, and Mr. Krishna Prasad also spoke. Dr. Niranjan Chiplunkar was present on the occasion.
