Annual Day Report – 2015 - NSAMFGC - Bengaluru.

16th April 2015 was a very special day for Dr. NSAM First Grade College, Bangalore. It was the first time in the history of the college that the final year students had taken the initiative to organize the Annual Day on a lavish scale. The preparations began almost three weeks earlier with sponsors and donors being identified, the chief guest being decided and other guests of honour shortlisted.

It is to the credit of the final years who were ably motivated and guided by Mr. Rame Gowda, Faculty in Commerce, that the programme was a stupendous success with every detail meticulously managed.

Dr. NSAM College took on a festive air with a dream tree, a village ambience, balloons and huge displays and backdrops all created by students painstakingly. Even the walls were painted with the traditional Warli art to complement the rural look.

The stage was set and with everyone praying that the rains would not play spoilsport, the programme commenced at 1.30 p.m. after the guests had been treated to a sumptuous lunch.

The Chief Guest for the day – Dr. Chandrashekar Shetty, former VC, Rajiv Gandhi University was punctual and he was accompanied by Dr. N.R Shetty, Chief Mentor & Advisor of NMIT who presided over the function. Founder Principal Prof. Victor, Ex MLA Mr. V Krishnappa, Mr. H. Nagaraj, Principal of NMIT and Mr. Rohit Punja, Administrator, Nitte Education Trust were the other dignitaries on the dais along with the Principal, Dr. Meera Krishnappa. There were many other distinguished guests, sponsors and donors who were also present on the occasion.

The programme commenced with the traditional invocation followed by the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries. The Vice Principal, Ms. Bhagya welcomed the gathering. This was followed by the reading of the College Report by the Principal, Dr. Meera Krishnappa.

The College Magazine PRISM 2015 was then released by the chief guest. Prof. Victor, Founder Principal was the first to share his thoughts with the audience. He recalled the earlier days when the college was started with just 2 students and traced its growth in the 13 years that he had spent in the college. He wished the institution all success in the future.

Mr. V Krishnappa then spoke about his association with the college and urged students to be service minded and take up careers that would benefit society. Mr. Rohit Punja then spoke briefly about his expectations from the institution in the days to come. Dr. N.R Shetty, the Presiding Guest, addressed the students and exhorted them to strive for excellence so that the institution could be counted as one of the premier institutions in the city.

The next event was the Prize Distribution wherein the merit awards for academic proficiency and excellence in various fields were given along with the coveted Chi. Sheetal Krishnappa Memorial Award for all round excellence. The Chief Guest – Dr. Chandrashekar Shetty then shared his words of wisdom with the audience. He stated that all round development of the individual was very important and emphasized the need for a holistic personality with both social and moral values that had no place for casteism, communalism and corruption. He also stated that ‘Compromise’ was also to be shunned as this lead to indifference and apathy.

The formal part of the programme which was ably compered by Ms. Aasha, Senior Faculty, concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Sahithya, Faculty in Commerce. The guests were all presented with mementoes and garlands. A 15 minute break for tea was followed by the cultural extravaganza which unfolded. Several forms of dance – traditional, folk and modern interspersed with songs and the lively banter of the anchors kept the audience thoroughly entertained. A comical skit on the Mahabharata had the spectators in splits while a dance drama on the life of Mr. D.K Ravi an honest IAS officer moved the audience. This was then followed by a fashion show wherein the students who walked the ramp displayed their style quotient looking elegant in their fashionable attire. This was followed by ‘DJ Nite’ with the DJ belting out the latest songs in Kannada and Hindi while students swayed to the rhythm.

A delicious dinner served by student volunteers brought the scintillating programme to an end. Kudos to Mr. Rame Gowda and his enthusiastic team of final year students for their efforts which were ably supported by all the staff – teaching and non teaching in making the day such a memorable one! Three cheers to all the staff and students of Dr. NSAM First Grade College, Bangalore for not only putting up such a marvelous show but also ensuring that discipline was maintained throughout.
