Maxillofacial surgeon's day - ABSMIDS

Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, ABSMIDS organised a programme to commemorate the Maxillofacial Surgeons’ Day on Saturday, 13th February, 2016. The guests were cordially welcomed by Prof.(Dr.) B.Rajendra Prasad, Organizing Chairman and Head of the Dept., Dept. of Maxillofacial Surgery, ABSMIDS.

The programme was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) S.Ramananda Shetty, Vice Chancellor of Nitte .The guests of honour for the programme were Prof. (Dr.) Sripathi Rao, Prinicpal of Yenepoya Dental College, Mr. G.S.Hegde, Deputy Commissioner for Transport and Senior RTO, Mangalore and Dr. Sanjeev M.Patil, DCP Crime and Traffic. The programme was presided over by the Principal and Dean of the Institution, Prof. (Dr.) U.S.Krishna Nayak.

Three lectures were delivered on the various aspects related to Maxillofacial injuries and their management. The first Resource person of the day was Prof.(Dr.) Ananthan P, Head of the Dept., Dept. of Neurosurgery, KSHEMA who gave a brief outline of Head injuries and their management. The next Resource person, Dr. Arvind Karikal, Associate Professor, Dept. of Maxillofacial Surgery, ABSMIDS presented a well-researched statistical data on the patterns of maxillofacial injuries in Dakshina Kannada and adjoining districts.The last resource person of the day was Dr. Arvind Rao, Dept. of Maxillofacial Surgery, Yenepoya Dental College who talked about various Road safety equipment and other measures.

The vote of thanks was given by Prof. (Dr.) Muralee Mohan, Organizing Secretary of the programme.





School Dental Treatment Camp - ABSMIDS

As a part of the Dazzle 30 (30th year celebration) of A.B.Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences and N-BRITE Program, the Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry organized a free dental screening camp on Sunday, 21st February 2016 at De Mercide Orphanage, Paneer. As a part of this program, Oral Screening was done for 72 children and Oral health status was recorded. Restoration including pulp therapy were advised for 53 children and extraction for 16 Children.





Chandagalu M Srinivasa Memorial Best Paper Award - KSHEMA

Supritha Shetty, Librarian, Central Library & Information Centre received the Chandagalu M Srinivasa Memorial Best Paper Award for her paper on Awareness of PDA by Medical Library Professionals - A study at the 8th Annual conference of Karnataka Health Science Library Association -KHSLA-2016 on the theme "Health Science Libraries at the crossroads" organized by St.Johns National Academy of Health Sciences,Bangalore in Collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences,Bangalore.

Joint Alumni meet 2016 - NGSMIPS & NMAMIT

The Joint Alumni meet 2016 of NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Nitte Engineering College-NMAMIT was held on 19th Feb at the “ABRAJ GRAND HOTEL, DUBAI amidst grand fun and fanfare. The meet saw participation of over 200 alumni and their families.

Dr. S.Ramanand Shetty, Vice Chancellor, Nitte University was the chief guest. Addressing the alumni Dr. Shetty said that reunions like these offer incredible opportunity for the alumni to participate in the academic and research oriented developmental initiatives of their alma mater and take pride in contributing by way of intellectual assistance.



Dr. Niranjan Chiplunkar, Principal-NMAMIT presented a video of the campus which lit up sweet memories of the gathering. Dr. C. S. Shastry, principal-NGSMIPS briefed the progress made by the college in the recent years and presented the future plans. He invited the attention of the alumni and requested their participation in realizing the objective of the college to establish the Nano-Science, CADD and psychopharmacological labs to facilitate advanced research.

Interacting with the gathering, Dr. Ronald Fernandes, Professor, NGSMIPS felt that events like these provide opportunity for both the institution and the alumni to cherish old relationship and forge new ones.

The alumni expressed their hearty willingness to contribute and partake in the progress and growth of their alma mater.

The children of the alumni put up some sparkling cultural program and attractive stage show which was followed by Dinner in the backdrop of light captivating music.

CME / Symposium, "24th IAPP/CME on Health Economics and Health Care Management - KSHEMA

The Department of Community Medicine organized a CME / Symposium, "24th IAPP/CME on Health Economics and Health Care Management" on 17-02-2016 at K.S Hegde Medical Academy.

G. & Dr. Sharon B, (postgraduates ) took sessions on roll of NGO's in health care management and community medicine application respectively. Counselling session "USMLE" - KSHEMA

The student council organised a counselling session "USMLE" on 22nd Feb 2016 . 150 students of 2nd, 3rd and 4th years and interns attended the session. It was conducted by Mr.Abhishek Bavadhekar who has been a part of Kaplan for the past 9 years and has given talks on USMLE career counselling in various parts of India.

N-IGMA 2K16 - NSAMFGC Nitte

The state level inter-collegiate fest N-IGMA 2K16 was inaugurated at the Nitte college auditorium ‘Sadananda’, by Prof. P.L. Dharma, Student Welfare Director, Mangalore University.

As the chief guest, Prof. P. L. Dharma said, “More than taking trophy home, it is important to take back peace of mind”. He also stressed on the fact that it is important to create good human beings. These cultural events at the college level enhances competitive spirit along side, it should also build cordial relationship among members of the society at large.

He urged the student community to use these cultural events to inculcate good values and utilize the opportunity also to become better by nurturing our humane self.

Dr. Veena B K, Principal, Students’ Council Director Dr. Yashoda R udupa, Students’ Council Secretary Mr. Syed Akmum and Even t Co-ordinator Mr. Gaurav Acharya were present on stage at the inaugural function.

The two-days mega event will continue till tomorrow. The valedictory function will be clinquant by the presence of “Ulidavaru Kandanthe” stellar star Mr. Rakshith Shetty.





N-IGMA 2K16 - Valedictory


A two-day state level inter-collegiate fest ‘N-IGMA 2K16’ was held at Dr. NSAM First Grade College, Nitte on 11th and 12th February 2016. “Ulidavaru Kandanthe” fame, star actor Mr. Rakshit Shetty was the chief guest on 12th February for the Valedictory proragemme. Actor and director Rakshit Shetty talking on the occasion, remembered his campus life at Nitte Mahalinga Adyanthaya Memorial Institute of Technology as an engineering student. As a former student, he went nostalgic to be in the campus again after a decade as a chief guest.

Dr. Veena B K, Principal, Students’ Council Director Dr. Yashoda R udupa, Students’ Council Secretary Mr. Syed Akmum and Event Co-ordinator Mr. Gaurav Acharya were present on the occasion.

The two-day fest had various events categorized into three categories, in which students from 14 colleges actively participated with enthusiasm and competitive spirit.

Chief Guest distributed the prizes to the winners and congratulated them on the occasion. Canara College, Mangaluru were the overall runners-up while St. Aloysius College, Mangaluru BBM branch were the overall winners.

Rakshit Shetty, chief guest was given a memento of hand drawn sketch by a student of the college Mithun S Shetty of I B.Com.

DOTS conference for doctors - NSAMSSS

A pair of students Tejaswini Kamath and Chinmay Sharma ( Class VIII ) as part of their 2015.16 Nitte Hutchie Challenge on Health and Life Expectancy did a thorough Research on Symptoms, Causes and Remedies of Tuberculosis. In that connection, these two concerned future citizens organized a Conference on DOTS ( Directly Observed Treatment, Short course) for 60 doctors of in and around Karkala at Prakash Hotel, Karkala, in association with the IMA ( Indian Medical Association ) in December 2015.


Career guidance organized by interact club - NSAMSSS, Nitte

On 26th January, 2016 the Interact Club of our School organized a Day’s Session for classes X and XI on Career Guidance and Motivation by Mr. Sundara Sherigara, Director MSE, Mangalore. Mr. Sherigara being a National Trainer was well received by the participants. Sonal Shashikanth the President of Interact Club welcomed the gathering and Mr. Dominic Andrade the co ordinator proposed the Vote of Thanks.


Pulse Polio Immunization Programme - KSHEMA

The Department of Community Medicine organized a Public Awareness Program, "Pulse Polio Immunization Programme" from 17-01-2016 to 22-01-2016 at Ullal, Natekal, Amblamogaru, Attavara, Padil, Jeppu and Yekkur. Pulse Polio immunization programme is held every year by the Government of India in association with WHO. The first round was held on the 17th of January. On the 14th of January, all the monitors were given a brief introduction about the programme and they were taught how to do the monitoring. 17th was the booth day where immunization booths were set up in various places like anganwadis, panchayats, railway and bus stations.

 

Health awareness and Health check up programme - KSHEMA

The Department of Community Medicine organized a Health Camp / Outreach Program, "Health awareness and Health check up programme" on 25-01-2016 at DK Zilla panchayath Lower Primary School Sampyady Subramanya.

A health awareness and health check up programme was conducted for school children at DK Zilla panchayath lower primary school Sampyady Subramanya in collaboration with Rotary club Subramaya on 25th of January 2016. It was conducted by intern Dr.Nego Zion with the guidance and supervision of Dr. Swathi (Assistant professor,community medicine, KSHEMA) & Mr. Santhosh N P(medical social worker KSHEMA). Mr.Lingappa Gowda Retired Educational officer from subramanya inaugurated the programme, Mr.Balachandra Katti, Mrs Sahana Kaanji, school welfare president & vice president.



Mr.Giridhar Skanda, president Rotary club Subramanya, School HM Mrs.Kusumavathi on the dias. Mr. Tharanath from sadananda health centre subramanya assited the camp. The children were educated regarding importance of health, hand washing practice, personal hygiene, and healthy diet, by Mr. Santhosh N P.





Health Camp / Outreach Program, "Medical Camp UPHC" - KSHEMA

The Department of Community Medicine organized a Health Camp / Outreach Program, "Medical Camp UPHC" on 08-02-2016 at Shaktinagar. Health camp organized by Medical officer Shaktinagar-UPHC, conducted in Padavu- Anganwadi centre Shaktinagar. It was a Government organized camp.Total patients were 117. Dr. Usha Rani 2nd year PG along with the intern's screened all the patients above 30 year's for Diabetes and Hypertension. General health check up's was done for all the patient's. Symptomatic cases like Fever, cough, cold, headache were treated accordingly. Case's which needed further evaluation was referred accordingly.

As a part of the science club activity class VIII students displayed science models guided by Mrs. Smitha H M and Mrs. Sushma Science teachers. A role play on First Aid was also a part of the activities.

Public awareness programme - MRSMEMHS

Vaishnavi K and N N Advith of class IX visited Mulki Town Panchayat and distributed banners and posters in connection with ‘Control of mosquito borne diseases’ . They were put up in the Panchayat notice board for public viewing .

On 09/02/2016, Adolescence Awareness Education was held for the students of Classes 6 to 8. A team of doctors from Father Muller’s Hospital, Kankanady discussed issues concerning adolescence.

Mile stones - MRSMEMHS

Dr. MRSM inaugurated its Play School on 01/02/2016. Baby Ankitha of Kindergarten inaugurated the play school by bursting a balloon. Principal Mrs. Shreelatha Rao welcomed the gathering. PTA president Mr. Swaraj Shetty spoke on this occasion. The members of PTA witnessed the programmme.

A workshop on Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation - KSHEMA

The Department of Pediatrics, KSHEMA under the aegis of IAP DK Branch organized a workshop on Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation on the 7th of February, 2016. The program was conducted at the Skill Laboratory, KSHEMA, with course faculty that included Dr.Leslie Lewis(Lead Instructor), Dr.Prashant Kini, Dr.Subodh Shetty,Dr.Chaitali,Dr.Jagadish AS; and was attended by 34 delegates. The event was inaugurated by Chief Guest Dr.Sathish Kumar Bhandary, (Dean, KSHEMA). Welcome address was given by Dr.Vijaya Shenoy (Head of Department, Pediatrics). Workshops were conducted for all participants, in which hands on training and multiple case scenario performance was stressed upon. Important workshops included Preparation at birth and Initial steps, Positive Pressure Ventilation, Chest Compressions, Incubation and Vascular access. Following these, afternoon sessions were dedicated to Integrated Skills Station performance analysis and a lecture by lead instructor on management of certain Special circumstances, as well as management of Preterm Resuscitation. The valedictory address was given by Dr.Sumanth Shetty and distribution of certificates, by course coordinator Dr.Seema Pavaman. The event was appreciated by all the delegates and received good feedback from both delegates and instructors.



Best paper award runner up - KSHEMA

Dr Kushalappa(MS Ortho) 2nd year Post graduate student, Department of Orthopaedics has secured the best paper award runner up for the titled “Comparative study for the hemoprophylaxis provided by tranexamic acid administered in Intravenous versus Intrarticular in total knee arthroplasty” in the recently conducted KOACON-2016. Karnataka State Orthopaedic Association Conference KOACON-2016 held at Bangalore from February 4th to 7th and was awarded a cash prize of Rs 25,000/-

National workshop on “Emerging Research Culture: A pathway to evidence informed health care” - NUINS

Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences, Constituent college of Nitte University has organized a National workshop on “Emerging Research Culture: A pathway to evidence informed health care” on 18th and 19th February 2016. Dr.U.S. Krishna Nayak, Principal A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences presided over the function. In his presidential address he focused on the importance of emerging research culture and its sustainability and wished the very best for the success of the workshop. Dr.Jadhav Sonali Tarachand, Principal M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Nursing Education and Research, Bengaluru was the chief guest. Dr. (Prof) Fatima D’Silva, Principal Nitte usha Institute of nursing sciences, welcomed the delegates of the workshop. Vote of thanks was given by Prof.Mrs.Sabitha Nayak, Vice-Principal NUINS. Prof. Sujatha HOD of Child health nursing and Mrs.Cleeta Pinto, Principal School of Nursing; were also present. The program was compered by Ms.Gincy Joseph and Ms.Mehana Pais.
