Department of Pediatrics of K.S. Hegde Medical Academy in association with Indian Academy of Pediatrics, S.K. Branch organized a Unique Continuing Medical Education Programme (CME) on Pediatric Rheumatology update on 26/02/2017.

Pediatric Rheumatology relatively new branch in the field of pediatrics which exclusively treats the children with joint pain and fever.

Dr. Jayaprakash Shetty, Registrar of K.S. Hegde Medical Academy was Chief Guest of this CME. He in his address emphasized that Pediatric Rheumatologist is a need of the hour as an expert to treat the children who has ailments like musculoskeletal pain, skin rash and fever, where these children invariably suffer from Pediatric Rheumatological disorder. India has very few centres which runs the fellowship programme in Pediatric Rheumatology unless and until pediatricians undergo this fellowship programme, we lack expertise in this field, a CME update on Pediatric Rheumatology like this will ensure all the Pediatricians to upgrade their knowledge in this field so that they can treat needy patients.

Dr. Anand Rao, Pediatric Rheumatologist, Manipal Hospital, Bangalore, Dr. Suma Balan, Pediatric Rheumatologist Amritha Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi, Dr. Sajjan Shenoy, consultant Rheumatologist, KMC Hospital, Mangalore, Dr. Rathika Shenoy, Professor of Pediatrics, K.S.Hegde Medical Academy were the Resource persons.

Dr. Vijaya Shenoy, Professor & HOD, Pediatrics and Organizing Chairperson, welcomed the gathering. Dr. Sumanth Shetty, Professor of Pediatrics proposed the Vote of thanks. More than 150 Pediatricians participated in the unique CME programme.

Public Awareness Program - KSHEMA

The Department of Oncology organized a Public Awareness Program, "PARICHAY" on 04-02-2017 at Department of Oncology. Parichay is a patient education program conducted by Reliance Life Sciences about Radiation Therapy. It is a audio visual 20 mins program. 20 patients and patients attenders participated in the program Dr. Jayaram Shetty, Prof. & HOD, department of Radiotherapy and Oncology introduced about the program. Dr. Vijith Shetty, Dr. Mallikarjuna Rao and all the staff were present in the program.

Continuing Medical Education on Tumor markers “A cutting edge paradigm in oncotherapeutics” - KSHEMA

Department of Biochemistry and Oncology jointly organized Continuing Medical Education on Tumor markers “A cutting edge paradigm in oncotherapeutics” on 11th February 2017 at Seminar hall, Justice K. S. Hegde Charitable Hospital Deralakatte.

The gathering was warmly welcomed by Dr. Sukanya Shetty, the organising secretary of the CME. CME was inaugurated by Dr. Iddya Karunasagar, Senior Director (International Relations), NITTE University.

Dr. Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Dean, KSHEMA, DR. P S Prakash, Vice Dean, KSHEMA, Dr. A.M Mirajkar, Vice Dean, KSHEMA, Dr. Shivakumar Hiremath and Dr. Jayaprakash Shetty, Registrar of KSHEMA graced the occasion by lighting the lamp.

180 delegates from different fields of sciences like Medical, Dental, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Nursing, Biotechnology and science faculty from all over Karnataka attended the CME.

Dr. Latha Kini (M.B.B.S,M.D,Pathology), Lead Clinical Pathologist, Core Diagnostics, Gurgaon, NewDelhi, enlightened the delegates with her talk on “Soft tissue tumors: molecular diagnostics perspective”

Dr. Roopesh N, (M.B.B.S, M.S OBG, Fellowship in Gynaecologic Oncology), Consultant Gynaecologic Oncologist in CyteCare Cancer Hospital, Bangalore explained the importance of tumor markers in gynaecologic oncology.

A lecture on oncology perspective from diagnostic to theranostics was delivered by Mr. Ramesh, (Deputy General Manager, Oncoquest Laboratories Ltd., Bangalore) the resource persons of the CME.

Dr. Vijith Shetty proposed the vote of thanks. The CME was compered by Dr Disha Bhandary.

Training of phd scholar at NUCSREM

Ms. Neha A. Shetty, PhD Scholar from Canterbury Christ Church University, Medway Campus, Kent, United Kingdom (UK) visited, and undergone a short-term training on ‘Cell culture techniques and assays’ from 28th December 2016 to 9th February 2017 at Nitte University Centre for Stem Cell Research and Regenerative Medicine (NUCSReM), K. S. Hegde Medical Academy (KSHEMA).

Life skill training program - NUINS

Life skill training was organized by the Department Mental Health (Psychiatric) Nursing on 17th February 2017 at Govt. High school, Pavoor. The one day training was conducted by Mr. Sukesh, Mrs. Joyce Fernandes & Ms. Joyce Mable D’ Souza, Faculties from the Department of Mental Health (Psychiatric) Nursing. The students from 9th standard participated in the training programme. The feedback obtained from the students which show that the programme was effective.

Farewell - Dr. NSAM PU college, Bengaluru

Dr. NSAM PU college organized a farewell day to out going students on 7th February 2017.The farewell party was organised by juniors with enthusiasm and teamwork. It was an occasion for the outgoing students to look back and reminisce the days that they spent in the Campus. The chief guest for the day was Prof. Shailaja shastri,HOD, Jain University.

School dental screening camp report - ABSMIDS

As a part of NBRITE Programme, we from the Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry of A.B.Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Science conducted a free dental screening check up camp at DE MERCY DE ORPHANAGE, Paneer on 05.02.17 (Sunday).

The team was headed by Sr. Prof. (Dr) Amitha M. Hegde, H.O.D department of Pedodontics and Preventive dentistry, A total of 6 PGs, from the department of Pedodontics, attended the camp.

Oral screening was done for 50 students from I STD-V STD and children with treatment needs were referred to the Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences, Mangalore and total

A local trip was arranged to the Malaysian students - KSHEMA

A local trip was arranged to the Malaysian students, studying at K.S.Hegde Medical Academy, on the 26th January 2017 to showcase the important places of the DK district. The students were accompanied by Dr.Sayeegeetha Hegde, the Co-ordinator for the Tulu Research, Nitte University. They visited Aloysius Chapel, Kadri Manjunatheshwara Temple, Maroli Suryanarayana Temple, Pilikula heritage village and Suratkal Light House.

Sports Day Report - ABSMIDS

The 32nd Annual Athletic Meet of A.B.Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences, Deralakatte, Mangalore was held at the New ground of Nitte University Campus on 11th feb. 2017 in a very unique manner. Mr. Prasad Shetty, International Powerlifter, Strongman of India 2015-16 and Strongest man International 2016-17 was the Chief Guest and Prof.(Dr.) Manoj Varma Principal, Srinivas Institute of Dental Sciences, Mangalore was the Guest of Honour who graced the occasion by taking the guard of honor and Declared the Athletic meet open in very unique display by the Mangalore Horse Riding Academy and a Colourful opening ceremony at the function.

Prof.(Dr.) U.S.Krishna Nayak, Principal and Dean of A.B.Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences presided over the function and has appreciated the participation of more than 70 Staff Members gathered for Marching competition. Prof.(Dr.) Priyadarshini Hegde, Dean of Student Welfare, Prof.(Dr.) Rahul Bhandary, Sports Advisor, Prof.(Dr.) B. Rajendra Prasad Director, P.G’s Studies were present to grace the occasion. Mrs. Jayasheela Shetty, Physical Education Director has welcome the gathering, Mr. Christo George the Sports Secretary, Student Council took the Oath on behalf of the Athletics, Dr. Ameer Ariwala was the Master of Ceremony, and Mr. Trishul Alva President, Student Council gave the Vote of Thanks.

Swachh Bharat Program held on 12.2.2017 - ABSMIDS

NSS unit of A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences participating in the Swachh Bharat Program organised by the NSS unit of Nitte University. The program was conducted at the Kshema campus on 12.2.2017 (Sunday) from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM. 27 NSS volunteers (1st year BDS students) from A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences cleaned the area surrounding the Kshema campus. Dr. Nanjesh Kumar, NSS Programme Officer, Kshema and Dr. Avaneendra Talwar, NSS Programme Officer, A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences, participated in the program.

Yoga for Stress management at Abhyuday Seminar Hall - NMAMIT

'YOGA for Stress management, Memory development & Concentration' program was organized by 'Yuj For Life' club from 14th February to 22nd February, 2017 between 04:50 PM to 05:20 PM.

Total of 23 students registered for the same.

Geomitra 5.0: Construction Based Geometry Event - NMAMIT

Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering in association with Dept. of Mathematics organized 5th version of construction based geometry Event Geomitra 5.0 on 2nd February , 2017 in Shambhavi Seminar Hall. The event was attended by 48 students from various branches of Engineering. Participants had to use their geometry skills and crack the hints provided in order to arrive at a solution. The time allotted for the event was 60 minutes. Based on the time taken by the participants and accuracy of the drawing, winners were decided. Ms. Sindhu Holla and Mr. Stalin were the organizers of the event. The question paper prepared by the organizers was verified by Dr. Shashirekha B. Rai, Professor, Department of Mathematics prior to the conduction of the event. Dr. Shashirekha B Rai also helped us in judging the event.
