VMware IT Academy Appreciation Day 2017 was organized on 29 March 2017 at The Residency Towers, Coimbatore in association with ICT Academy of Tamilnadu. Principals, Deans, Directors and HODs from 50 partnering colleges were officially invited by VMware. Dr. Balasubramani R, SPoC – VMware IT Academy represented NMAMIT, Nitte. The theme of the programme was “Celebrating thought leadership in empowering next generation on skills needed for modern data centers”. The event focus were the future of Virtualization, Cloud and Security, VMware India Initiatives, VMware IT Academy @ your campus, VMware Faculty support initiatives and VMware Centre of Academic Excellence. Mr. B. Anbuthambi, Vice President, ICT Academy gave opening remarks and was followed by key note address by Mr. M. Sivakumar, Chief Executive Officer, ICT Academy. Mr. Manjunath V Kashi, Senior Director – Information Technology, VMware Inc. was the Chief Guest. VMware Academic Awards – 2017 was presented by Mr. Rajesh Nambiar, Regional Program Manager, VMware. Among 550 colleges partnered with ICT Academy, NMAMIT has emerged as one among top 25 colleges for active participation and implementation of VMware IT Academy initiatives during the academic year 2016-17. On behalf of NMAMIT, Dr. Balasubramani R received the Partner Excellence Award from Mr. Rajesh Nambiar. Mr. G Saravanan, Asst. General Manager, ICT Academy proposed vote of thanks and the event concluded with networking lunch.

Ugadi Celebrations - NSAMPUC, Bengaluru
Dr. NSAM PU college celebrated the first cultural event for the academic year 2017-2018, with the celebration of Ugadi on 28/03/2017. Dressed up in traditional attire, in a wholly festive spirit, students embellished the floors as well as the doors with flowers and leaves and lamps. This was followed by a sumptuous potluck and traditional outdoor games.

The faculty of community health nursing department organized a Guest lecture on 24-03-2017 on World Tuberculosis Day at Justice K.S Hegde Hospital. The programme started at 2.00pm with welcome speech by Mrs. Suchithra BS. She introduced the guest speaker Mrs. Anupama D.S, Assoc. Professor, Nanjappa Institute of Nursing sciences to the gathering. Mrs. Anupama D.S delivered brief lecture on Tuberculosis. She discussed on introduction, signs and symptoms, treatment, myths & facts and approaches to end TB. She emphasized on tuberculosis day theme 2017- Unite to end TB. Dr. Neetha Kamath, HOD Dept. Of Community Health Nursing presented certificate and memento to Mrs. Anupama D.S. The program was compered by Ms. Merin Mathew. The programme concluded at 3.30 pm with vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Bency Elsa Babu.

Many of our students took part in the 11th state level open karate championship -2017 sponsored by “Kobudo Budokan Karate Do Karnataka” held on 14th and 15th January 2017 at katapady and twenty of them have won medals in Kumite and Kata.

Health Camp / Outreach Program, "General Health Camp" - KSHEMA
The Department of Community Medicine organized a Health Camp / Outreach Program, "General Health Camp" from 05-03-2017 to 05-03-2017 at Government Primary School Kandrapady, Subramanya.
A general health camp was conducted by the Department. A total of 40 patients (M – 21 & F - 19) attended the camp of which 22 patients were checked for sugar level using glucometer and referrals to hospital were made as follow 3 cardiology, 3 orthopaedics, 3 ophthalmology and 2 surgery. A free consultation was done with provision of necessary drugs to the patients. Counselling was also given to all the patients regarding their health problems.Dr Pavan, , Dr Rakesh Maiya and Dr Shiny Nesan, Dr. Nandita, Department of General medicine, with interns Mr. Ravi, from Dept.
No smoking week - KSHEMA
Department of Psychiatry observed ‘No Smoking‘ week from 10.03.2017 to 16.03.2017, in collaboration with the Student Council, KSHEMA and Mission Hope, KSHEMA. The programme was inaugurated on 10th March continued with Family Meet. Poster Presentation competition for constituent colleges of Nitte University was conducted the same day and it was displayed on 11.03.2017 and Prize distribution on 13.03.2017. Awareness programmes including Skit were conducted by MSW students on 10.03.2017 & UG Students from 11.03.2017 to 16.03.2017. The Programme was inaugurated by Major(Dr.)Shivakumar Hiremath, Medical Spdt. Justice K.S. Hegde Charitable Hospital. Infosys has organized Principals’ Meet 2017 for the Principals and SPoCs of Infosys Campus Connect Partnering Colleges on 24th March 2017 at Infosys, Bangalore. Representatives from 86 partnering colleges attached to Bangalore, Mangalore and Mysore DCs attended the event. Also, through Video Conferencing Principals’ Meet took place in Chennai, Trivandrum, Chandigargh, Pune and Hyderabad DCs. Dr. Balasubramani R, SPoC – Infosys Campus Connect represented NMAMIT, Nitte. Dr. Sundaresan Krishnan Iyer, Mr. Anoop Singh, Mr. Sudhir Mishra, Mrs. Vani K N and Mrs. Sahana Kumaraswamy from Infosys felicitated the event. School Health Program - NUINS
As a part of Community Health Nursing posting, 2nd year BSc Nursing students organized a School Health Program on the topic “Tuberculosis and Prevention of junk foods” at Dakshina Kannada Higher Primer Secondary School, Montugoli, on 23rd March 2017. Dr. Neetha Kammath, Mrs. Suchitra, Mr. Jince, Ms. Bency and Ms. Merin were the staff members present throughout the program. Program began with the introduction to the topic by Dr. Neetha Kamath and a welcome speech by Ms. Cleeta.
Ms. Zara Zakir of 2nd year BSC nursing introduced the role play about tuberculosis. There was a PowerPoint presentation about the definition, causes, risk factors, prevention and treatment of tuberculosis. Video has been shown regarding the prevention of junk food. And Ms. Sushmitha had presented the vote of thanks. Dr. Neetha Kamath concluded the session by thanking Mr. Santhosh Kumar Head Master of the school. At the end we provided each student an orange as refreshment.
NITTE integrated care of tribal community - NUINS
Community Health Nursing department and 1st year GNM students participated in Tribal School Education Programme in collaboration with AB Shetty Dental college at Higher primary school Kadri, Mangalore on 26th March 2017 between 9.00 am to 1.00 pm. The program was headed by Ms. Bency Elsa Babu, (Asst. Lecturer, CHN department). The programme began with nutritional assessment of the 95 students of class 1-10 by checking height and weight. After that health education on ‘SACBIES, ANEMIA AND PERSONAL HYGIENE’ was given by Ms. Princel, Ms. Priya, Ms. Preethi and Ms.Jincy.

The session went on till 1:00 PM After the lunch there was prize distribution for the winners of the Poster and model making competition organized by the Department of Oral Pathology and Microbiology on 17th March 2017. This was followed by panel discussion titled “How to come out of legal hurdles and discussion of cases” which consisted of panel members Hon Shri Mallana Gowda, Prof (Dr) N Sridhar Shetty, Mr Manoraj Rajeeva, Prof (Dr) Mahabalesh Shetty and the panel discussion was moderated by Dr Suraj Shetty Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology K S Hegde Medical academy. Nearly 250 delegates from various dental and medical colleges in Karnataka and Kerala attended this useful lecture and highly inter-active panel discussion.

Public Awareness Program - KSHEMA
As a part of the mass vaccination for Measles and Rubella which was conducted in the months of February and March 2017, The Department of Community Medicine conducted Information Communication and Education (IEC) Activities in 28 schools under 8 health centres attached in the month of January 2017 under the guidance of Dr. Ankeeta Menona J, Assistant professor Department in Community Medicine and postgraduates Dr. Sharon Baisil, Dr. Shameena A.U., Dr. Gunjan Mahaur, Dr. Vidya Ramesh, Dr. Prince Alex and Dr. Rakesh Maiya G with the help of Dr.Nanjesh Kumar, Medico social workers Mr. Santosh, Mr. Ravi and Mr. HarshaRaj . This vigorous campaigning was done for more than 7,250 students and parents of the students for the newly launched Measles-Rubella Vaccine as a part of the measles, rubella elimination by 2020 strategy. The health awareness programme consisted of a brief introduction to the diseases of measles and rubella followed by the vaccination details of the Measles Rubella (MR) Vaccine by the faculty of Department of Community Medicine. A special video in Kannada and English was prepared for the Measles and Rubella Campaign by Dr. Ankeeta and Dr. Sharon Baisil with the help of the Department of mass communication at Paneer Campus. Information regarding Measles and Rubella and the MR vaccine was made available to all the participants of the health awareness sessions in the form of pamphlets in Kannada and English.

On 22nd March 2017, a CDE programme was conducted by the Department of Public Health Dentistry, ABSMIDS as one in the series of events organized under the aegis of the Centre for Advanced Dentofacial and Stomatognathic Sciences. The program commenced with a silent prayer as a tribute to Prof. Dr. Priyadarshini Hegde. The chief guest Prof. Dr. N. Sridhar Shetty, Director, Centre of Advanced Dentofacial & Stomatognathic Sciences, Dr. Namita Shanbhag, Associate Professor, Dept of Public Health Dentistry, Government Dental College, Bangalore and Dr. Rekha Shenoy, Associate Professor, Dept of Public Health Dentistry, Yenepoya Dental college, Prof. Dr. U.S. Krishna Nayak, Principal & Dean, Prof. Dr. B. Rajendra Prasad, Former Dean and Director PG studies, Prof. Dr. Mithra N. Hegde, Vice Principal and Dr Audrey M D’Cruz, HOD I/C of Dept of Public Health Dentistry dignified the dais with their gracious presence after lighting the lamp.

Android App Dev Workshop - NMAMIT
NMAMIT ACM Student Chapter organized a Two Days Workshop on Android App Development during 11-12 March 2017. 30 students participated in the workshop. Prof. Venugopala P S, Associate Professor, Dept. of CSE, NMAMIT was the resource person. The workshop covered the basics of Android Application Development through Android Studio. Mr. Kashif and Mr. Muthaheer were the Student Coordinators. The workshop was organized through Mobile Applications SIG.
International Conference of Malaria in Global Health - KSHEMA
K.S Hegde Medical Academy (KSHEMA) constituent of NITTE University in association with API-DK Chapter, National institute of Health and PennState University, USA has successfully conducted a two days International conference on “Malaria in Global Health” on March 17th &18th, 2017 at K.S Hegde Auditorium, Deralakatte, Mangalore. Malaria is a mosquito borne disease that has been an important health problem in many tropical countries. This conference was aimed at improving knowledge and skills to combat Malaria. Mangalore has been the hub of malaria in last many decades. We have seen different kinds of fluctuations in terms of species, severity and number of deaths related to malaria. It is truly a global problem currently endemic in many tropical countries with serious threat of spread to other countries.
This menace has been effectively eliminated in our neighboring country like Sri lanka. K.S Hegde Medical Academy, a prestigious medical institute in India, Association of physicians India (API) includes committed doctors managing malaria, NIH , National institute of allergy and infectious diseases (NIAID) are the prime agencies in the U.S federal government supporting malaria research and development. The aim of the International Conference on “Malaria in Global Health” is to enhance our knowledge regarding various aspects of the challenges and empower ourselves. The scientific program of the conference encompassed all the major disciplines of malaria biology and allied areas. In addition, the conference focused on some special front line areas like drug resistance to malaria, placental malaria, Immunology and pathophysiology, entomology, epidemiology and molecular biology of plasmodium infestation.
The conference has encouraged biologists, medical physicists, physicians, research scholar, laboratory technologists, and those who are engaged in pursuits of improving health and quality of life have attended the conference, presented their research work and share their professional experiences. The conference held in an ambient atmosphere to exchange ideas, discuss the latest research and explore new avenues for scientific development and collaborations. The efforts specially to encouraged young scientists and scholars to participate in keeping with the main objective of the conference as to promote further education and research on malaria. There were 350 delegates participated in the conference. During the conference, 16 eminent International / National speakers have delivered the lecture on different topics in Malaria. There were 16 young scientists presented their scientific work in the field of malaria and three winners were awarded with the prizes. We have conducted Three workshops 1) Peripheral smear based- Parasite identification and load estimation, 2) Parasite identification – RT-PCR based, 3) Clinical treatment workshop, posters/skit/quiz competitions were also arranged . Many of the delegates have benefited from the above programme.

Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, PENNSTATE university, USA who is the key role to conduct this prestigious conference at our Institute and also had delivered a lecture on "Insight of NIH project about Malaria in Global Health" The conference was inaugurated by Dr. Vishal Ravi, IAS, Directorate of Municipal Corporation, Govt. of Karnataka, Dr. S. Shantharam Shetty, Pro-Chancellor, of Nitte University has presided over the function. Dr. Sateesh Kumar Bhandary, Dean, KSHEMA, Dr. Sudhindra Rao, Organizing Secretary, Dr. Tanmay Bhat and Dr. Suchetha Kumari , Co-Organizing Secretary were also present. Workshop on k line clear aligners - ABSMIDS
Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, A.B.Shetty Ortho Alumni, Centre for advanced and Stomatognathic Sciences in association with Mangalore Orthodontic Study Group organized a one day workshop on K Line – Clear Aligners on Monday, 20th March 2017 by Dr.Karthik Dholakia, Mumbai.
