Nitte University grabs 77th Rank in National Institution Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2018 - Press release

NITTE (Deemed to be University) has been ranked 77th in the National Institution Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2018, rankings announced by the Ministry for Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India. This is the second year in succession that the young Deemed to be University has been ranked amongst the top 100 of the 800+ Universities of the country. This year, NITTE has climbed 6 places from the previous ranking of 83.It has been placed 9th in the parameter of Outreach and Inclusivity. In addition, Nitte Gulabi Shetty Memorial Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, one of the constituent colleges of NITTE (Deemed to be University) has been placed 25th amongst Pharmacy colleges of India with an all India ranking of 2nd in Outreach and Inclusivity. The NIRF rankings consider performance in the areas of teaching, learning, research productivity, graduate outcomes, outreach, inclusivity and peer perception. The ranking was launched in 2016 to promote quality in education, to encourage competition between higher education institutes and to set new benchmarks of performance. NITTE (Deemed to be University), in a short span of 9 years, has achieved this distinction in addition to being graded ‘A’ by the National and Accreditation Council of India (NAAC).

CNE ON DATA COLLECTION TOOLS - NUINS

The Department of Community Health Nursing and first year M. Sc Nursing students organized a CNE on the topic “Data Collection Tools” on 26th March, 2018 at the Seminar Hall, Justice K.S. Hegde Charitable Hospital, Deralakatte, Mangalore. Ms. Rashmi welcomed the gathering. Prof. (Dr.) Fatima D’silva, Principal, Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences along with Prof. (Dr.) Judith Angelitta Noronha, Associate Dean, Dept. of OBG, Manipal College of Nursing, Manipal inaugurated the program. Prof. Judith Angelitta Noronha was also the Resource person for the CNE. She engaged the participants with three extensive sessions regarding the preparation of questionnaire, testing the reliability and item analysis. 100 students and 20 faculty participated in the program. Ms. Merin Mathew conducted the proceedings and Ms. Sneha Roy delivered the Vote of thanks.

State level conference on health care reforms in nursing practice “Reform to Progress” - NUINS

Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences organised a State Level Conference on Health Care Reforms in Nursing Practice on 23rd March, 2018 at the University Auditorium, Paneer campus, Deralakatte, Mangalore. Mr. Arun S. Nath, Manager - Training & Development, ACTS - YEN, Yenepoya University was the Chief Guest and also the Resource person. Through his insightful and interactive speech, Mr. Nath highlighted the history and progress of Tele-health and Tele-nursing in India.

Mrs. Gracy Lobo, Nursing Superintendent, KMC, Mangalore elaborated on ways and means to achieve nursing excellence by adopting Nursing Quality Indicators and their implementation in hospitals for quality patient care and better health outcome.

Prof. Dr. Fatima D’silva, Principal, NUINS presided over the function. Dr. B.A. Yathi Kumara Swami Gowda, Principal, Alva’s College of Nursing was the observer from Karnataka Nursing Council. Prof. Sabitha Nayak was the Organizing Chairperson and Prof. Philomena Fernandes the Organizing Secretary. Certificates were issued to the participants and the program was concluded by receiving feedback from the delegates.




Nitte Scientist receives recognition from Indian Science congress association - NUCSER

Dr. Biswajit Maiti, Asst. Professor, Nitte University Centre for Science Education & Research (NUCSER), Mangaluru received the prestigious “Dr. (Mrs.) Gouri Ganguly Memorial Award” for the year 2017- 18 in the recently concluded 105th Annual Meet of Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) held during 16th to 20th March, 2018 at Manipur University, Imphal, Manipur. The meeting was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri. Narendra Modi.

ISCA is a professional body under the Dept. of Science & Technology, Govt. of India. The award, which includes a citation, plaque and cash prize, was instituted by ISCA in 2002-03 to recognize the contributions of young scientists of the country for their achievements in various fields of science and allows the awardees to showcase their research accomplishments in the form of a lecture during the award ceremony. Dr. Maiti was nominated for this prestigious award by the Director (R & D), Nitte (Deemed to be University), Prof. Indrani Karunasagar, one of the few distinguished women scientists in the country.

Mother as a Rehabilitative Aid (MARA) - NIPT

Mother as a Rehabilitative Aid (MARA) program was initiated by the Paediatric unit of Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy.

The aim of MARA is to educate and create an awareness in a simple & practical manner among mothers of special children, on the importance of their role in the recovery of their children.

A one hour parallel session will be conducted once a month for the mothers of special children both in the Paediatrics unit of K S Hegde Hospital and Kapikad Special School. The session will involve educating the parents in creating the right environment in their homes, discussing the effectiveness of the treatment provided and progress of the child, clarification of doubts etc. The program involves talks by experts in the field and using videos, pictures and handling techniques for easy comprehension.

Students Achievements - NSAMPUC, Nitte


  1. The students team of class II PCMC Manjunath Bhavi, Sudarshan Saliyan and Varshith has participated in State Level Yuva Science Talent -2017 and won 2nd Prize in Science Model Competition held at Srinivas Univerity, Mukka, Mangalore on October 30th 2017. 
  2. . Dinesh (I Com) secured I Place in 800m race and 3000m race and has been awarded as individual champion in District Level Sports Meet held at Udupi on November 3rd and 4th 2017.
  3. Ramya (II Science) won gold medal in KATA & Silver medal in KUMITE in National Level Karate Championship organized by Self Defence School of Indian Karate Mangalore Dojo held at Nehru Maidan, Mangalore on November 4th & 5th 2017.
The Boy’s team of the college won I Place in PUE District Level Basket ball held at B. C. Alva Stadium, NET, Nitte on August 6th 2017 and selected for State Level Basket ball tournament.

Achievements of students in The Inter District Athletic Meet conducted by D. K. Amateur Athletic Association on 11th and 12th December 2017 at Mangala Stadium.
  1. Bhoomika (II Com) won 1st place in 800 mts race, 2nd place in 1500 mts race.
  2. Divya (II Com) won 1st place in 100 mts & 200 mts race.
  3. Prajwal(II Com) won 1st place in Discuss Throw.
  4. Shiney Minezes (1 Com) won 2nd place in High Jump.
  5. Dinesh (I Com) won 2nd place in 800 mts race and 3rd in 1500 mts race.
  6. Pooja Shetty (I Com) won 3rd place in 3000 mts race.

NSS activities - NSAMPUC, Nitte

The Annual NSS camp was conducted from 11th to 17th October at Govt. higher Primary School, Kalya, Karkala. Mrs. Nagaveni, President, Kalya Village Panchayath was the chief guest. The camp was inaugurated by Mrs. Indira K, Principal, Dr. NSAM P.U.College, Nitte. Mr. santhosh D’ Silva, President, Alumni Association & Mr. Raviraj acharya, President, SDMC, Govt. Higher Primary School, Kalya were the guest of honour. Talks and Shramadan were conducted in the camp.

Annual Sports Day - NSMPUC, Nitte

The Annual Sports Day was held on 22nd November 2017. Mrs. Suraksha Kotian, All India Inter Colleguate Hockey Player, Old Student, Dr. NSAM P.U.College Nitte hoisted the flag. Mrs. Neetha Kishore, Deputy Director, NET inaugurated the Sports Meet. Mrs. Indira K. Principal, Dr. NSAM P.U.College, Nitte presided over.


Annual Day celebration - NSAMPUC, Nitte

The Annual Day was celebrated on 25th November 2017. Mrs. Mithra Prabha Hegde, Principal, S.V. Womens College, Karkala was the chief guest. Mr. Santhosh D’Silva, President, Alumni Association was the guest of honour and distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions. “Spandana” magazine was released on the occasion. The Principal, Mrs. Indira K, presided. As a part of cultural program students performed Yakshagana, Chande, Classical ,Semi classical & Western dance.


Taluk Level Departmental Foot ball Tournament - NSAMPUC, Nitte

Taluk Level Departmental Foot ball tournament was organized by the institution on 28th August 2017. Afnan M. Mohammed and Akash Shetty of our P.U. College got selected for District Level Boy’s Foot ball team.

Cultural Program on Ganeshothsava - NSAMPUC, Nitte

The cultural association performed various dances on account of Ganesh festival in the campus. Mrs. Usha Hegde coordinated the program.

Anti Tobacco Day - NSAMPUC, Nitte

Dr. Sathish, Medical Officer, Primary Health Center, Nitte inaugurated the program on 26th July 2017. Mrs. Indira K, presided over the function.


Women’s Forum - NSMPUC, Nitte

Women’s Forum was inaugurated on 8th August 2017. Dr. Nanda Pai, an eminent doctor in Ayurvedic field inaugurated the program and gave awareness about girls safety, precautions to be taken by girls during dangers. Mrs. Indira K, presided over the function.


Food Fest by Commerce Association - NSAMPUC, Nitte

Food fest was held on 18th July 2017. Students prepared variety of food items and sold for resonable prices.


Swatch Bharath Abhiyan - NSAMPUC, Nitte

The NSS unit organised Swatch Bhaarth Abhiyan on 5th July 2017 by cleaning the premises around 3 kms from the college campus.

International Day of Forests - NIPT

The NSS Unit of Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy celebrated the International day of Forests on 21st March, 2018 at Patanjali Yoga Hall, NIPT. A debate competition on the theme “Wood Energy & Rural Poverty” was conducted. The event saw a total of 18 participants.

Addressing the students, Dr. Dhanesh Kumar K U, Principal, NIPT encouraged them to protect the environment by planting saplings, protecting trees and keeping the surroundings clean. He congratulated the participants and the NSS unit for conducting the program and hoped to witness more programs that involved students in social service activities. Ms. Sumam Sunny and Ms. Sudini Borkar, Asst. Professors, NIPT, were the Judges for the event. Mr. Sukumar, Asst. Professor, NIPT briefed the audience about the program. Mr. Rakesh Krishna, NSS program Officer, organized the event with the help of Ms. Thangamma, Student secretary, NSS and Ms. Ramya, General Secretary, Student council. Dr. Dhanesh Kumar K U announced a cash prize of Rs.1000/- as incentive, to the winning team. The program concluded with the Vote of thanks delivered by Mr Rakesh Krishna.

Swacchata Abhiyana - NIPT

Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy took part in Ramakrishna Mission’s “Swacchata Abhiyana” on 18th March, 2018. 49 students along with 7 staff members participated actively in the awareness event at Bejai-Kapikad, Mangaluru. The program involved cleaning of premises and creating an awareness on cleanliness among the general public. The staff and students voluntarily took part in the program with the goal of serving the nation. Staff and students are thankful to Ramakrishna Mission for their efforts in taking the initiative to maintain a clean & hygienic environment. The program concluded by providing refreshments to the volunteers.

“Academic & Career Aspiration” - Placement Cell Program - NIPT



The Placement Cell of Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy organized a Seminar on “Academic & Career Aspiration” at the college on 28th February, 2018. The resource persons were Ms. Priya K, Regional Marketing Executive & Mr. Imran S.M, Marketing Head for Karnataka, both from Planet Education.

Prof. Dr. Dhanesh Kumar K U, Principal, NIPT welcomed the gathering. Dr. Purushotam Chippala, Assoc. Professor, NIPT presided over the function. Ms. Liana, IV BPT was the master of ceremony. The seminar was attended by the faculty & around 50 students from final year BPT & MPT. The resource persons shared the information on higher education and career opportunities abroad and the processes involved in application.

"Start-Up Pitch-2k18" - A Business idea Competition - NMAMIT

Karnataka New Age Incubation Centre, NMAMIT (NAIN) in association with ICT Society, Depts. of IT, BT and S&T, Govt. of Karnataka organized a business idea competition "Start-Up Pitch-2k18" on 13th March,2018 at NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte. The event was organized with the objective of providing an opportunity to the students to pitch their startup ideas and portray their zeal for startup. Chief Guest, Mr. Pradeep Kumar, Vice President, Technology & Innovation, Robosoft Pvt. Ltd, Udupi inaugurated the event. In his inaugural address, he briefed the importance of Startups and taking their prototypes to next level and the challenge in creating a market for the produced items. Mr. Siddarth Pai, Alumni & Entrepreneur briefed about various existing startups and challenges faced while starting the venture. He shared his experience during his undergraduate days and his thoughts on entrepreneurship. Dr. Niranjan N Chiplunkar, Principal, NMAMIT in his presidential address briefed the students on the importance of NAIN and appreciated the work done by NAIN in the last 4 years. Mr. Shashank Shetty, Regional Co-ordinator, NAIN welcomed the gathering. Mr. Puneeth Reval, Internal Co-ordinator, NAIN & Asst. Professor, Dept. of CSE introduced the Chief Guest, Mr. Pradeep Kumar. Ms. Priyadarshini introduced Mr. Siddarth Pai. Mr. Rajath Rao, Internal Co-ordinator, NAIN & Asst. Professor, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering delivered the Vote of thanks. Ms. Ankitha A Nayak, Internal Co-ordinator, NAIN & Asst. Professor, Dept. of CSE was the MC for the event.

The event had an overwhelming response with 76 business proposals received from 310 students. These proposals were scrutinized and 65 were shortlisted based on innovation, feasibility and business proposal write-up. These in turn were categorized into 6 panels based on their domains and students presented their ideas in their respective panels, in parallel sessions conducted in different seminar halls.

The student co-ordinators comprised of Ms. Pooja Shetty, Mr. Manjunath, Mr. Mukul, and Mr. Venkatesh Pai. The Staff co-ordinators were Mr. Krishna Prasad Rao, Mr. Puneeth R P, Mr. Rajath Rao and Ms. Ankitha A Nayak. Mr. Shashank Shetty, Regional co-ordinator and Dr. Nagesh Prabhu, college co-ordinator were the faculty in charge of the event.

Medical Check- Up - MRSMEMHS

A medical check-up was organized for the students of Dr. MRSM English Medium School on 16th February, 2018. A team comprising of specialists in ENT, Ophthalmology, General Medicine etc from K S Hegde Medical Academy, Mangalore conducted the medical check- up and prescribed suitable medicines for the ailments. Those that required further treatment were referred to the K S Hegde Hospital. A talk on “Health & Hygiene” was given to all the students of the secondary section.


International Olympiad of Mathematics and Science - MRSMEMHS

28 students of Dr. MRSM English Medium School have been lauded with medals in the first level of International Olympiad of Mathematics (iOM) and Science (iOS) . Each winner received a certificate and a medal.

A full day course, which focuses on how to perform a laparoscopic cholecystectomy safely. The course emphasizes on relevant anatomy, common problems encountered during a routine laparoscopic cholecystectomy, on identifying errors, as well as on how to manage them. The resource persons have vast experience in managing Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary diseases and the course will prove useful to the post graduates as well as practicing surgeons.

Workshop on “Ventilator care setting and Modes of mechanical ventilator” - NUINS

The Department of Medical Surgical Nursing, Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences organized a workshop on “Ventilator care setting and Modes of mechanical ventilator” at the Nitte University Medical Simulation Centre for Advanced Clinical Skill Training (NU-MEDISIM), K S Hegde Hospital, Deralakatte on 13th March, 2018.

Dr. Raveendra U S, Professor, Dept. of Anesthesiology and Chief-coordinator, NU-MEDISIM was the Resource Person. Addressing the gathering, he explained the concept and demonstrated the settings on a basic ventilator. He enlightened the students and staff, on the care of patients on ventilator, by simulating conditions on an advanced high-fidelity manikin.







Workshop Presentation as Resource Person - Dr. Santosh Prabhu - KSHEMA

Dr. Santosh Prabhu, Asst. Professor, Department of Psychiatry, KSHEMA was invited as a Resource Person for the " Awareness Program on Drug abuse " held at Canara College, Mangaluru, on 3rd March,2018. He delivered a talk titled "Adolescent problems and coping with it ".


Second place in the Short case presentation competition - KSHEMA

Dr.Sara Jaison and Dr. Ananthanarayan, PG students, Dept. of Anaesthesiology, KSHEMA won the second place in the Short case presentation competition for anaesthesia post graduate students, held during CEOT-3, 2018 (Comprehensive Exam Oriented Tutorial ) on 25th February, 2018 at K S Hegde Medical Academy. The topic was "Cleft Lip & Palate".They secured the prize facing competition from about 120 post graduate students. The competition was sponsored by the Mangaluru City Branch of Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists.


Mathrubhasha Diwas

In connection with the celebration of Mathrubhasha Diwas, competitions in singing (Tulu & Kannada) and elocution (Topic : Maathrubhaashe – Shikshana) were held on 21st February, 2018 for the students of the constituent colleges of Nitte Deemed-to-be University.

Prof. Bhaskar Rai Kukkuvalli, a renowned litterateur, artiste was the Chief Guest. Prof. Dr. Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Vice-Chancellor presided over the function. Dr. Anand Bangera, HoD, Anaesthesiology welcomed the gathering. Dr. Sayeegeetha, Co-ordinator of the program, presented the theme of the celebration. Prof. Dr. M S Moodithaya, Pro Vice-Chancellor explained the bond of the University with local languages. On this occasion, the English-Kannada-Tulu dictionary, edited by Dr. Sayeegeetha and published by Nitte Deemed-to-be University was released. Talks in Kannada, Tulu, Konkani, Kodava and Beary dialects were delivered by the students and staff members.

The prizes were distributed to the winners of the competitions. The Vote of thanks was delivered by the Registrar, Dr. Alka Kulkarni. The program came to an end with the students singing the State Anthem.
