Prof. Dr. N. Sridhar Shetty Annual Endowment Lecture- 9th July, 2018 - ABSMIDS
The 8th annual Dr. N. Sridhar Shetty Endowment lecture was organized by Nitte University and A.B. Shetty Old students Association (ABSOSA) on 9th July, 2018 in the presence of Hon’ble Chancellor, Sri N Vinaya Hegde.
Prof. Dr. Shishir Shetty, Chairperson of Dr. N. Sridhar Shetty Endowment Committee in his welcome address emphasised the role of the alumni of ABSMIDS in conducting this annual endowment lecture. The Chief Guest, Justice N Santosh Hegde in his keynote address elaborated on the need of ‘Rajadharma’ (good governance) in the present political scenario of our country. He stressed upon the role of the ordinary citizen in preventing corruption. Efforts to end corruption have to come from the top order of the nation. It is impossible for the people to find a solution to this menace, said Justice Santhosh Hegde. Corruption in Independent India is an issue existing from the early sixties. People are not welcome in government offices unless they go with bribe to please the officials. Former Prime Minister Rajeev Gandhi has pointed it out by saying only 15% of the funds reach the people while 85% of the funds disappear on the way to different pockets. The present Prime Minister, Narendra Modi also had made similar statements. Many people at higher offices acknowledge the presence of corruption. Question is not about how many acknowledge presence of corruption but, who can bell the cat, is the issue. The youth of India only can address this issue and it is possible only through collective action, Justice Hegde said.
Accepting the felicitation, Prof. Dr. N. Sridhar Shetty profoundly thanked the alumni of the college for instituting this annual endowment lecture and he called upon the alumni to contribute their knowledge in taking the institution to greater heights. Prof. Dr. Shantharam Shetty, Pro-Chancellor of Nitte University in his presidential address acknowledged the role of Prof. Dr. N. Sridhar Shetty in shaping ABSMIDS to an institution of international repute and the role of alumni as brand ambassadors of the college.
