Familiarization for first year Students - NMAMIT
Familiarization program for the first year B.E students of NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte was organised on 29th July 2019 at Sadananda Open Air Auditorium.
About 700 students admitted to B.E course attended the program along with their parents.
Sri. N Vinaya Hegde, President, Nitte Education Trust & Chancellor, Nitte (Deemed to be University) briefed about the Nitte group and wished the students a bright future. Dr. Niranjan Chiplunakar, Principal addressed the students and welcomed them to Nitte.
Dr. Shrinivasa Rao B.R, Vice Principal & CoE explained the examination system, rules and regulations. Dr. I.R. Mithanthaya, Vice Principal & Dean (Academics) briefed about the credit-based education system, the frame of syllabus and amenities provided by the college to help the academic-related activities of the students.
Prof. Vinaya B.R, First year Co-ordinator informed about the Student Monitoring Cell and its effort to help the first-year students.
Prof. Shalini K Sharma, Head, Dept. of Placement, Training & Counselling gave an overview of the placement process that takes place at the institute.
Dr. Subramanya Bhat, Dean, Student Welfare briefed about the student welfare activities that are held in the campus and also proposed the Vote of thanks. Mr. Grynal Dmello, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering was the master of ceremony.
Soon after the formal function, parents and students were taken around the campus to familiarise them about the college campus and the facilities.

NMAMIT students bag Best Project of the Year award
A team of students from the Dept. of Biotechnology, NMAMIT won the "Best Project of the year 2018-19" award at the 42nd Annual Student Project Seminar & Exhibition conducted by Karnataka State Council for Science & Technology (KSCST), IISc , Bengaluru, at KLE Society's Dr. M. S. Sheshgiri College of Engineering & Technology, Belagavi on 26th and 27th July, 2019.
Ms. Inchara Crasta, Ms. Ashwini Shenoy, Ms. Soumya Rao and Ms. Udbhavi of the team received this award for their final year project “Process intensification of bioethanol production through simultaneous saccharification and extractive fermentation” under Biofuels category.
This project was guided by Mr. Venkatesh Kamath H, Asst. Professor and Prof. Dr. C. Vaman Rao, HoD, Biotechnology. Dr. Udipi Shrinivasa, Emeritus Professor of Mechanical Engg., IISc Bengaluru, a pioneer in biofuel revolution in India presented the award, which included a cash prize, citation and certificate.
Earlier, this project team had also received KSCST student project grant and VTU student project grant for their innovative projects. In this project, the team had demonstrated the production of bioethanol from Pongamia (Honge) oil cake using an integrated technique to solve system complexities and to reduce operation cost. They had also designed and fabricated two different lab-scale bioreactor modules for this operation.

State level Florence Nightingale award to NUINS alumnus - NUINS
Ms. Nimmi Stephen, alumnus of Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences, presently working as a Staff Nurse at Justice K.S Hegde Charitable Hospital, Deralakatte, Mangalore was honored with the STATE LEVEL FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE AWARD for her bravery and presence of mind in saving a girl. The award was presented to her on 27th July 2019 at Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute.

Discrete Mathematics & Computational Solution of Differential Equations-Applications - NMAMIT
The Department of Mathematics conducted a Faculty Development Program on “Discrete Mathematics & Computational Solution of Differential Equations-Applications” on 25th July 2019.
During the morning session, Dr. Vishwanath, Professor, Dept. of MACS, NITK, enlightened the audience on differential equations, partial differential equations and different computational techniques to solve such equations by taking various examples from life situations. Dr. Kumudakshi, HoD welcomed the gathering and Ms. Bhavya D introduced the speaker.
During the afternoon session, Dr. Vasudeva, HoD, CSE, SMVITM, Bhantakal spoke on Discrete Mathematics, its relation to Mathematics, number theory, artificial intelligence, machine learning with many interesting examples from life-related problems. Prof. Dr. Shankaran P welcomed the gathering and Ms. Ambika introduced the speaker.

Report on Ashok Leyland “Knowledge on Wheels - Training on BS-IV Engine"
A workshop titled “Knowledge on Wheels-Training on BS-IV Engine” was held at Automotive Learning Factory of NMAMIT in association with Durga Motors (Ashok Leyland Authorized Dealers), Baikampady, New Mangalore on 23rd July, 2019 for the faculty members of the Departments of Mechanical, Electrical & Electronics and Electronics & Communication Engineering.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Niranjan Chiplunkar, Principal, NMAMIT in presence of Dr. A.N. Parameswaran, Director, Industry-Institute Interaction, NMAMIT; Dr. Shashikantha Karinka, HoD, Mechanical Engineering and the participating faculty members.
The training program encompassed the application of Mechatronics in the engine management system and engine emissions reduction. The participants got a very good exposure to various sensors, activators, pumps etc through presentation and hands-on session and to new technologies in reduction of nitrogen oxide emissions through AdBlue urea injection technology on one platform and the exhaust gas recirculation technologies on the other. One of these technologies is generally adopted in different makes of Bharat Stage IV heavy commercial vehicles for reduction of nitrogen oxide emission. However, the combined feature may be adopted in Bharat Stage-VI emissions reduction technology.
The training program was organized with the support of Mr. M.J. Uday Kumar, Managing Director, Durga Motors; Mr. M. Thangaraj, Asst. Manager, Ashok Leyland Service, Mangalore region; Mr. Rohith Kumar, Asst. Works Manager, Durga Motors; Mr. Naveen M, Technical Trainer, Ashok Leyland, Bangalore and Sri S. Gopinath, Advisor, NMAMIT.

"Project Tribal Health" - Department of Public Health - KSHEMA
As part of the curriculum, the Department of Public Health, KSHEMA, organized "Project Tribal Health" from 7th to 9th July 2019 at Biligiriranganabetta (BR Hills), Chamarajanagar District.
Students had an opportunity to understand the cultural practices of the Soliga tribe and learn firsthand the activities of Vivekananda Girijana Kalyana Kendra, a non-profit organization that focuses on education, livelihood and health of the Soligas.

The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking - Dept of Psychiatry jointly by the NSS Unit of KSHEMA
The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed jointly by the NSS Unit of KSHEMA and the Dept of Psychiatry on 26th June 2019.
To mark the occasion, a talk on drug abuse was delivered by Dr Shishir Kumar, Asst. Professor, Department of Psychiatry.

Training in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation skills - KSHEMA
