News from NMAMIT | Patents’ Windfall at NMAMIT, Nitte

A total of 10 patents of NMAM Institute of Technology have been published in the official journal of Indian Patent Office issued over last 2 years. Communication from Dr. Niranjan N. Chiplunkar, Principal of NMAMIT said that one of the inventions for which patent has been granted is for development of super- sensitive and stable gold nanoparticles. The inventors are Dr. Vidya S.M., Dr. Pradeepa And Vaman Rao C. The nanoparticles developed are sensitive to lower concentration contaminants in water.

One other patent published pertains to automatic footware stand for eliminating the cases of persons handling others footware which is very inhuman and also for eliminating exchange of footware in places of gathering. The inventor is Dr. Niranjan N. Chiplunkar.

Another patent published is for apparatus for fabricating differently shaped tool electrodes for micro electrical discharge machining. The inventors are Dr. Muralidhar, T.R. Venugopal, Veeresh R K , Prasad Prabhu, Dr. Ratnamala Rao. The novel system simplifies the process of fabrication.

One more patent which has been published is for a system to determine end effector position and orientation error of a robotic arm. The inventors are Dr. Muralidhar and Rathnamala Rao. Another patent published is for an apparatus for active vibration isolation using flexurally amplified piezoelectric. The inventors are Dr. Muralidhar, Divijesh P. P., and Dr. Rathnamala Rao.Another patent published is for seed decorticator for multiple biodiesel seeds. The inventor is Dr. Shashikanth Karinka. The device is useful for reliable and effective kernel extraction of multiple biodiesel seeds.

One more patent is related to the development of anti-venom solution. Inventors are Dr.Vaman Rao, Dr. Bharath B R, Dr. Rajesh K.S. and Dr.K. Ishwar Bhat. The antivenom is useful as an antidote against snake bites and inhibits toxins caused by three finger toxins. Yet another patent published is for a novel stove for use with vegetable seed oil on fuel. The inventor is Dr. Sudesh Bekal. The device is compatible for use with raw vegetable seed oil as fuel. Another patent is for anti- intrusion device for computer network. The inventors are Dr. R. Anand and Dr. B. H. Karthik Pai. The device detects and prevents malicious activities performed in user devices from computer networks. One more patent which is published is related to vital sign monitoring system. The inventor is Dr. Anand. This invention relates to the field of collecting human vital sign data and transferring said data to user interface through wireless communication media. In addition, another 21 patents are awaiting publication in the Indian Patent Office.

NMAMIT is involved in development of many medical devices in collaboration with Nitte University such as development of automatic system for analysis and detection of puberphonia speech disorder using deep neural networks, expert system design and mobile apps development for prediction of difficulties in airway passing in ICU and operation theatre, web solutions and mobile app development for community health departments and satellite primary health centres of K S Hegde Medical Academy, automatic CPR trainer, development of patient lift system, development of trainer stethoscope and Detection of Stress through skin patches.

Further, Dr. Niranjan N. Chiplukar said that NMAMIT presently has 12 centre of excellence such as Centre for tool-based micromachining research, Centre for condition monitoring research, Centre for advanced machining research, Centre for research on vibration isolation system, Centre for system design fabrication and testing, Centre for I.C. engines research, Centre for high performance computing (CHPC), Centre for power electronic system design, Biofuel research, information and demonstration centre (BIDC), Centre for innovation in biofuel production, Fronius centre for welding research and Automotive factory. NMAM Institute of Technology has been investing a lot for inhouse Research so as to ensure high quality and high-volume Research output.
