News from NUINS | Lamp lighting and Academic awards ceremony 2020-21

The lamp lighting and academic awards ceremony of the first year B.Sc and GNM students was organized by the SNA along with the class coordinators on 23rd January 2021 under the guidance of the SNA President, Dr. Fatima D’silva and SNA Advisor Mrs. Melba Drago.

The programme started with a welcome dance and prayer. Mr. Arun Antony of 3rd B.Sc (N) was the Master of Ceremony. Mrs. Melba Drago, formally welcomed the gathering. This was followed by the Lamp lighting ceremony by the dignitaries on the dais, HoDs and class coordinators. Dr. Sabitha Nayak administered the oath to the students.

Prof. Raviraj, Head, Nitte Institute of Communication was the chief guest. He lauded the exemplary work of nurses as frontline warriors during the COVID-19 pandemic and explained the importance of their role as effective communicators in the healthcare setting. Lt. Col. Cicily P. J, Nursing Superintendent, Justice KS Hegde Charitable Hospital was the guest of honour. In her message, she spoke about the importance of 3H’s for nurses - effective use of Head, Heart and Hands and also motivated the students and wished them well in all their future endeavours.

Dr Fatima D’silva, Principal and SNA President shared some inspirational insights of this noble profession and congratulated the students for choosing nursing as a career.


Academic Awards Ceremony
Mrs. Jeevitha Alva, Lecturer, Dept. of Child Health Nursing coordinated the distribution of academic awards. Toppers in academics and various events (as well as overall championship for Kalavaibhav-2019) were awarded with mementos, certificates and trophies by the dignitaries.

Ms. Ashvitha Monteiro from 4th year B.Sc (N) was awarded the best outstanding student award. Ms. Jancy Joy (2018-19) and Ms. Diana Robert (2019-20) were the recipients of the Harish Memorial Award. Dr. Nalini M, Associate Prof. and Class Coordinator, 1st B.Sc (N) proposed the vote of thanks. The program ended with a group photo session.









News from ABSMIDS | Lecture on ‘Fundamentals of Patient Communication’ & Annual White Coat Day celebration

A lecture on ‘Fundamentals of Patient Communication’ was organized for the students and staff of ABSMIDS on 21st January 2021 at the New Auditorium. The program started with the invocation followed by lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest & Resource person, Prof. (Dr.) PP Devan and other dignitaries.

Prof. (Dr.) US Krishna Nayak, Principal & Dean welcomed the gathering. Prof. (Dr.) Santhosh Shenoy introduced Prof. (Dr.) PP Devan, Dept. of ENT, AJIMS who delivered a Guest Lecture on ‘Fundamentals of Patient Communication’.

This was followed by the Annual White Coat Day celebration. Dr. Renita Lorina Castelino, the second speaker of the day, highlighted the significance of White Coat to the students. Around 250 participants comprising of faculty, PG, III & IV year BDS students attended this very informative and comprehensive program.

News from MRSM EMHS | Republic Day celebration

Republic Day - the day on which the Constitution of India came into effect in 1950, was celebrated with pride and patriotism on 26th January 2021 at Dr. MRSM English Medium High School.

The festivities commenced with unfurling the national flag by the PTA President, Mr. Arun Shetty followed by oath-taking by everyone gathered, to uphold the honor, integrity and dignity of our nation. Toppers of AISSE-20 were rewarded on the occasion.

A skit depicting the contribution of various architects of the Indian Constitution, staged by the students of Class 9 & 10 and a dance performance exclusive to Uttarakhand by the teaching faculty, made the day memorable one.

The Principal, Ms. Shreelatha Rao and PTA President, Mr. Arun Shetty enlightened the students about the uniqueness of the Indian Constitution, their responsibilities towards the country and advised them to realize their potential and take the country to greater heights.

The NSS Unit of NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte in association with the Electoral Literacy Club organized National Voters Day on 25th January 2021.

Mr. Krishnaraja Joisa, Public Relations Officer of the institute spoke on the significance of National Voters Day, rights, and duties of the eligible voters in our democratic system.

Students took the Voters' pledge during the event. Dr. Janardhan Nayak, NSS Officer of NMAMIT coordinated the event.

Winners Club, the oldest Toastmasters Club in Mangalore, conducted a demonstration of the activities of Toastmasters International with the intention of opening a club in the Deralakatte campus for both students and faculty. Toastmasters International was invited by Nitte (Deemed to be University) to educate students about the activities of the Club and how it would benefit them.

Both students and faculty were encouraged to participate in an extempore session mediated by one of the Toastmasters. This was done to provide a first-hand experience to participants on how Toastmaster sessions work. Normally, Toastmasters International charges a sum of 125 USD (approx Rs. 9125) to start a new club. In addition, each member needs to pay a sum of 20 USD (approx R.s 1460) as a one-time payment. However, due to the prevailing pandemic, for the first time, this fee has been waived-off, provided the member enrols before January 31, 2021.

ONE TIME FEE:
  • $125: One-time chartering fee (waived if enrolled before 31st Jan.2021)
  • $20: New-member fee per person (waived if enrolled before 31st Jan.2021)
Membership fee @ $7.5 per month per person (approx.Rs.5000) has to be paid for 9 months from January to September 2021. Thereafter, membership charges would be @ $7 per month per person, payable once in 6 months, which works out to $45 (approx. Rs. 3100) 

It is also important to note that once a person enrolls himself, he can continue his membership, anywhere in the world. The entire amount collected from members is transferred to Toastmasters International.

News from MRSMEMHS | Makara Sankranti

To develop respect, appreciation and tolerance among the younger generation towards various cultures and traditions prevailing in India, the MHRD has tagged Karnataka with Uttarakhand for the year 2021 under the banner ‘Ek Bharat Shresht Bharat’.

With this motto, Makara Sankranti was celebrated at Dr. M Ramanna Shetty Memorial English Medium High School on 15th January 2021. Amalgamation of the traditional culture of Karnataka as well as that of Uttarakhand was the striking feature of the celebration.

Principal Mrs. Shreelatha Rao extended a warm welcome to the students of Classes 9 and 10 who are back in school after a long break and stressed on the purpose of this celebration. Mrs. Smitha and Mrs. Divya, teaching faculty of the school introduced the students to the customs and traditional aspects of Makara Sankranti in Karnataka and Uttarakhand respectively.

Children exchanged ‘Ellu Bella’, enjoyed Pongal and ‘Ghugute’ a sweet meat, eaten after it is fed to crows to ward off evils on this day in Uttarakhand. As an intrinsic factor of this celebration, colourful kites made by students adorned the sky.

News from Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy | National Youth Day

Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy observed the National Youth Day and the 159th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda on 12th January 2021 at Patanjali Yoga Hall, with great enthusiasm. Dr. Dhanesh Kumar K U, Principal, NIPT, elaborated on the significance of Youth Day to all the students.

The students of NIPT listened to the live telecast of the Honorable Prime Minister’s address to the youth of the country on the occasion of the National Youth Parliament Festival via video-conferencing. The program was coordinated by the NIPT - NSS Program Officer Dr. Rashmitha AP.

News from NUINS | Freshers’ Day

Freshers’ Day of Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences in association with the SNA Council members was organized by the II year MSc, BSc and GNM students on 22nd December 2020 at Nitte University Auditorium, Paneer campus to welcome the first year students.

Prof. Vinod Aranha, Director, Nitte Institute of Architecture was the Chief guest. In his address to the freshers, Prof. Aranha spoke about the important and responsible role of nurses on the frontline during the Covid pandemic. He appreciated the freshers for selecting one of the finest nursing institutions in the region and also conveyed his best wishes to the students in all their future endeavors.

Dr. Sabitha Nayak, Vice Principal, College of Nursing, shared a few ‘golden nuggets of nursing profession’ with the freshers, appreciated them for choosing this noble profession and wished them good luck in their path towards realizing an illuminating and fulfilling career.

The formal function was followed by cultural program in which the students showcased their talents.






News from NMAMIT | Congratulation to Commander Ashwin Rao


An alumnus of NMAM Institute of Technology, Commander Ashwin M Rao received the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) commendation on Naval Day, 4th December 2020 for his innovations and indigenisation projects, technology demonstrations and training solutions for Indian naval aviation. His innovations are based on emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, Sensor Integrations, Internet of Things and Image processing.

Working in the Indian Navy since 2005, he is currently serving at the Naval Institute of Aeronautical Technology, Kochi.

Having taken command as Electrical Officer of INS Sharda in August 2016, he carried out major exercises for the Indian Navy both in Indian and International waters. In April 2017, he played a pivotal role in rescue operations saving four lives and a cargo ship that was under attack from Somalian pirates.

News from NGSMIPS | Webinar on New Products and Applications in Hard Capsules

The Department of Pharmaceutics, NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences in association with ACG Capsules, Mumbai organized a webinar on ‘New Products and Applications in Hard Capsules’ on 29th December 2020.

Dr. Jnanadeva Bhat, an alumnus of NGSMIPS currently holding the position of Head - Formulation R&D, Ms. Anita Solanki - Lead, White Paper and Publications and Ms. Dorene Almeida - Lead, Application Lab in R&D were the speakers.

Prof. Dr. C. S. Shastry, the Principal, welcomed the speakers and the audience and Prof. Dr. R. Narayana Charyulu, Vice Principal, introduced the speakers and moderated the session.

Dr. Jnanadeva Bhat discussed the novel innovations in inhalational drug delivery and the formulation of capsules for this special purpose. Ms. Anita and Ms. Dorene explained the recent developments in the manufacture of gelatin as well as HPMC based capsule shells emphasizing the critical formulation parameters that affect the efficacy of drug products.

The success of the event was marked by the active participation of 91 participants, including faculty and undergraduate students. The seminar was followed by a live interaction and Q&A session and concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Dr. Marina Koland.










 


News from NUINS | ENLS workshop

Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences in collaboration with JeevaRaksha Trust organized Emergency Nursing Life Support (ENLS) Workshop at NU-MEDISIM and Chintana Seminar Hall from 14th to 20th December 2020.

The resource persons were Dr. Sushmitha and Dr. Ram. The course comprised management of various emergency conditions such as cardiac emergencies, pediatric emergencies, airway management and obstetric emergencies. The step-2 instructors efficiently taught theory sessions and practical skills under the guidance of JeevaRaksha team.

On this occasion, a Memorandum of Understanding was exchanged between Nitte Deemed to be University and JeevaRaksha Trust.

News from MRSM EMHS | Mathematics Workshop

A three-day Mathematics Workshop was organized in the school for the teachers of Nitte and the neighbouring schools from 4th to 6th of January 2021. Integration of Arts in Mathematics, multidisciplinary approach and use of python programming language in Mathematics were the highlights of the training. Maths and Computer Science teachers of Dr. MRSM School conducted the programme which was appreciated by all the participants.

Dr. Suryanarayana K, under whose guidance the programme was organized, took a session on mathmagic. He appreciated the efforts of the teachers.









News from MRSM EMHS | Christmas celebration

Christmas was celebrated in Dr. MRSM English Medium School on 23rd December 2020. All the staff came together to set up a beautiful Christmas crib. Singing of Christmas carols spread the mood of Christmas. ‘Secret Santa’ gifts brought by the teachers were given away by Santa. Mrs. Reshma Shriyan and Mrs. Asha R Kamath dressed up as ‘Santa Claus’.

The celebration concluded with the relishing of Christmas cake and snacks exclusive of Christmas. The initiative taken by the Principal to celebrate Christmas, a relaxation from the busy schedule of online classes was welcomed by all the staff.
