News from KSHEMA | A webinar on ‘The Anticipated Third Wave in Covid-19 and Prioritization for Children'

The Department of Paediatrics, K S Hegde Medical Academy in association with DST NU-TEC organized a webinar on ‘The Anticipated Third Wave in Covid-19 and Prioritization for Children’ on 25th June 2021.

Dr Swathi Sunil Rao, Associate Professor, Department of Pediatrics, KSHEMA, delivered a talk on ‘Pediatric Covid-19 -the Spectrum’ followed by Dr Rohit Bharadwaj, Consultant Pediatrician, Chennai who delivered a talk on ‘Pediatric Covid-19 in office practice and updates on vaccines’.

Dr. Santhosh Soans, Professor & Head, Department of Pediatrics, AJ Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre, Mangalore and Past National President, Indian Academy of Pediatrics, delivered a talk on the ‘Preparedness for Third Wave-National and State perspective’.

Dr. Rathika D Shenoy, Professor & Head, Department of Pediatrics, KSHEMA was the Moderator. Prof (Dr) Iddya Karunasagar, Advisor (Research & Patents), Nitte (DU) was the Coordinator. Prof (Dr). Satheesh Kumar Bhandary Vice-Chancellor, Nitte (DU) presided over the proceedings.

The webinar was attended by over 500 delegates and was much appreciated.

News from NIPT | Frontier Lecture

Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy (NIPT) organised a Frontier Lecture on “Research Methodology and Introduction to Grant Writing” on 25th June 2021 at the Institute premises.

The event began with a prayer by Ms. Chaithanya Ratheesh (Final year BPT), followed by a welcome address by Prof (Dr) Dhanesh Kumar K U, Principal. The resource person for the lecture was Dr. Praveenkumar Shetty, Director R&D, Nitte DU, who spoke at length on Research Methodology and Grant Writing, process, and outcomes.

All the teaching faculty of NIPT attended the Lecture. Dr. Saumya Srivastava, Assistant Professor, NIPT, Coordinator of the event, delivered the vote of thanks.

News from NMAMIT | TOYCATHON-2021 GRAND FINALE

Under the Aatma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan scheme initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Toycathon-2021 was conceived to challenge India's innovative minds to conceptualize novel Toys and Games, based on Bharatiya civilization, history, culture, mythology, and ethos, thus providing a unique opportunity for students, teachers, start-ups and toy experts in India. It was an inter-ministerial initiative that was organized by the Ministry of Education's Innovation Cell with support from the All India Council for Technical Education, Ministry of Women & Child Development, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Ministry of MSME, Ministry of Textiles, and Ministry of Information & Broadcasting. 

NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte was selected as one of the Nodal Centres for conducting TOYCATHON 2021 in a digital mode from 22nd to 24th June 2021. NAIN-NMAMIT stood forward and organized the event.

The 18 teams that took part through NMAMIT Nodal Centre were divided into two groups: GR018 and GR029, with brilliant and proactive mentors & evaluators panel of 5 members each. GR018 panel consisted of Dr. Radhakrishnan Delhibabu as the chairperson along with Ms. Srilakshmi Ravali M, Mr. Neeraj Chauhan, Ms. Niveathitha S, and Mr. Debashis. Panel GR029 comprised of Dr. Sandhya Save as the chairperson along with Mr. T Balaji, Ms. Archana Nanade, Ms. Chetana Hitendra Khairnar, and Mr. Mohammad Anwarul Siddique.

NMAMIT gave a great start to the grand finale of Toycathon 2021 with an inaugural event scheduled at 8 am on 22nd June. The program geared up with the welcome address by the Principal of NMAMIT. The Chief Guest of the day was Ms. Shilpa Bhat, VP, 99Games who gave a very informative address with lots of statistics and strategies to thrive in the gaming and toys industry. The guest of honour Sri. Rohit Punja, Administrator of NMIT, Bangalore, addressed the gathering by congratulating the selected teams and threw light on the importance of games and toys to improve a child's cognitive ability. The president of the event, Shri. Vishal Hegde, Pro-Chancellor (Admin) of Nitte University & Trustee, Nitte Education Trust, motivated the participants through his inspiring speech. The program concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by the faculty coordinator of the event, Mr. Shashank Shetty, K-Tech District Innovation Associate - NAIN and Asst. Professor-CSE.

This was followed by inauguration at the National level, which was broadcasted live on YouTube by MHRD Innovation Cell. Hon'ble Ministers, AICTE officials, and representatives of the Ministries addressed the participants. 

The teams participated in the mentoring session between 11 am to 1 pm. After taking the suggestions from the panel and improvising their projects, the teams reflected the changes during the Evaluation Session that was held between 4 to 6 pm. The same schedule was followed even on the second day. 

 

The team scores at the end of the evaluation session on the second day were updated to the Toycathon website for the purpose of selection of teams for the Power Jury Round that was handled by the MHRD’s Innovation Council. 280 teams across all the Nodal Centers were shortlisted for the Power Jury Round. The Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi interacted with a few Toycathon participants from across India.

As the result of the Power Jury that was announced on 26th June on the Toycathon website, 117 teams were declared winners. ‘Bhakt Vanar’ that participated from NMAMIT Nodal Centre, was also among the winners.

NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte conducted a local valedictory ceremony on 26th June 2021. Mr. S. Gopinath, (Former ED, BHEL Trichy) Advisor, NMAMIT, graced the occasion as chief guest. Addressing the gathering, he explained the importance of exhibiting our culture and rich heritage through toys and games. Dr. Niranjan N Chiplunkar, the Principal, welcomed the gathering and expressed his gratitude to the NAIN members and student committee for handling this event successfully.

The valedictory session concluded with a vote of thanks by the faculty coordinator of the event, Mr. Shashank Shetty, K-Tech District Innovation Associate NAIN & Asst. Professor-CSE. He mentioned that NAIN-NMAMIT had completed seven years and individually thanked all the faculty and student organizers responsible for the success of this event.

The grand finale of Toycathon 2021 was a grand success. The faculty coordinators for this event were Dr. Nagesh Prabhu, Prof. & Head-EEE; Mr. Shashank Shetty, Asst. Professor-CSE; Mr. Krishnaraja Joisa PRO and Ms. Ankitha Nayak, Asst. Professor-CSE. News from ABSMIDS | AHA certified workshop on Basic Life Support

The Dental Education Unit, Dept. of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Intern’s Academic Club of ABSMIDS along with the Resuscitation Training Cell & Department of Anaesthesiology, KSHEMA jointly in association with IIEMS, Kottayam, organised an AHA certified workshop on Basic Life Support from 8th to 12th June 2021 at Adhyayan Hall, 7th floor, ABSMIDS, Deralakatte, Mangalore.

The BLS training program was headed by Prof. (Dr.) Sripada G Mehandale, Head, Dept. of Anaesthesiology and Prof. (Dr.) Gayathri Bhat, Anesthetist & Chief Coordinator, Resuscitation Training Cell, KSHEMA. The team included expert trainers from various medical institutions - Dr. Sushmita Patil, Dr. Shruthi, Dr. Sandhya BS, Mrs. Shanthi, Mr. Sunil along with coordinators from IIEMS- Mr. Emil and Mr. Azo.

The BLS workshop was attended by 236 participants including 83 interns from ABSMIDS. The intensive training program comprised of lectures from certified trainers, video presentations, hands-on CPR on mannequins, followed by theory and practical exams.

The program was co-ordinated by Dr. Padmaraj Hegde, Dr. Gopinath Thilak PS from the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

4. ECLS TOT was conducted from 20th to 30th April 2021. 27 Doctors and 24 interns were trained.
5. Interns Orientation was held on 3rd and 4th May 2021. 151 Interns participated in the Orientation Program.
6. ECLS Workshop was held during the period from 21st to 24th June 2021. 25 Interns participated in the workshop.

News from NISH | International Yoga Day

On the occasion of International Yoga Day, the Nitte Institute of Speech and Hearing organized an online Yoga session for the students and staff on 21st June 2021, from 9.00 AM to 10.00 AM.

Ms Govekar Anisha Vishvas, currently pursuing her internship at NISH was invited to lead the yoga session. Ms Anisha has completed her Diploma in Yoga Training and Diploma in Diet Planning from Fab Academy and is the Founder of Mantra for Soul Yoga Coaching.

The session began with a welcome and introductory address by Ms. Shwetha, Principal, NISH. In line with this year’s theme ‘Yoga for well-being’ with emphasis on overall wellbeing during the pandemic, Ms Anisha guided the attendees through some basic asanas, pranayama and meditation techniques. The benefits of each of these were explained by her along with the demonstration.

The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms Shwetha.

News from NISH | Ni–LEOS: Application of ICF in Aphasia

Nitte Institute of Speech and Hearing has started a series of webinars under the title Ni-LEOS, Nitte Learn with Experts Online Series.

The first guest lecture under this title was on “Application of ICF in Aphasia” and the expert speaker was Dr. SP Goswami (Professor & Head, Department of Speech-Language Pathology, AIISH Mysuru). The lecture was delivered in two episodes, on 12th and 19th June 2021 respectively. III year B.ASLP students, Interns and staff were the participants. The program was streamed through the Google Meet Platform. The presenter covered the topics of the basic framework of ICF, the versions of ICF, ICF in aphasia, the difference between traditional assessment and ICF based assessment, and goal setting based on ICF. The presentation was followed by a Question and Answer session.

Dr Abhishek B.P, Associate Professor and Research Coordinator was the organizer of the program. Prof Dattatreya, Director welcomed the expert speaker while Ms. Shwetha, Principal proposed the vote of thanks.

Founders Day, the birth anniversary of Justice K S Hegde was celebrated through song, dance and screening of documentaries at Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy (NIPT).

Delivering the keynote address, Principal, Dr Dhanesh Kumar K U, spoke of the life and achievements of Justice K S Hegde and the birth of the Nitte Education Trust.

The online session was moderated by Dr Saumya Srivastava, IQAC Coordinator for NIPT. Dr Rashmitha A P, NSS Program Officer of NIPT coordinated the program and delivered the vote of thanks.

ಇಂದಿನ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧಾತ್ಮಕ ಯುಗದಲ್ಲಿ ದಿನದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಳಿಗ್ಗೆ 7 ಗಂಟೆಯಿಂದ ಸಂಜೆ 7 ಗಂಟೆಯವರೆಗೆ ಬರೀ ಪಾಠ ಪ್ರವಚನ ಮಾಡಿ ಶೇ 80ರಿಂದ 85% ಫಲಿತಾಂಶ ಪಡೆಯುವ ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠಿತ ವೃತ್ತಿಪರ ಕಾಲೇಜುಗಳ ನಡುವೆ, ವಿನೂತನ ಶೈಲಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸೀಮಿತ ಅವಧಿಗೆ ಬೆಳಿಗ್ಗೆ 9 ರಿಂದ ಸಂಜೆ 5ರವರೆಗೆ ಪಾಠ ಪ್ರವಚನದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧಾತ್ಮಕ ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆಗಳಿಗೆ ತರಬೇತಿ ನೀಡಿ, ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ಮಾನಸಿಕ ಒತ್ತಡವನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸದೆ ಅವರ ಸರ್ವತೋಮುಖ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿತ್ವದ ವಿಕಸನಕ್ಕೆ ಪೂರಕವಾಗಿ ಎನ್ನೆಸ್ಸೆಸ್, ಕ್ರೀಡೆ, ಸಾಂಸ್ಕ್ರತಿಕ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳನ್ನು ವರ್ಷ ಪೂರ್ತಿ ಅಳವಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಪ್ರತಿ ವರ್ಷ ಗರಿಷ್ಠ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ವಿಶೇಷ ಶ್ರೇಣಿಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ತೇರ್ಗಡೆಯಾಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದು ಸರಾಸರಿ 96 ರಿಂದ 99 ಶೇಕಡಾ ಫಲಿತಾಂಶದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಶಿಸ್ತು ಬದ್ಧ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣಕ್ಕೆ ಮಾದರಿಯಾದ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆ ಡಾ. ಎನ್.ಎಸ್.ಎ.ಎಮ್ ಪಿಯು ಕಾಲೇಜು, ಮಂಗಳೂರು.

News from Nitte University Green Initiative Project (NUGIP) | Tree planting event

Nitte University Green Initiative Project (NUGIP) organized a tree planting event on the World Environment Day on 5th June 2021.

On this occasion, Prof. (Dr) Shastry C S, Principal, NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences; Prof. (Dr) Fatima D’Silva, Principal, Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences; Prof. Vinod Aranha, Director, Nitte Institute of Architecture and Prof. (Dr) Anirban Chakraborty, Director, Nitte University Centre for Science Education & Research planted trees in Paneer campus. They appreciated the efforts of the maintenance staff and gardeners in keeping the campus green.

The informal event was a welcome activity. Prof. (Dr) Smitha Hegde, Member Secretary, NUGIP organized the event and thanked all the members for their active participation.

News from NISH | World Environment Day

World Environment Day, celebrated on 5th June, aims to create awareness about the beauty of the environment and to focus on the current devastating effects of human civilization on our environment. On this occasion, owing to the pandemic leading to lockdown and with most of the students confined to their homes, a selfie-caption competition was planned for the students based on the theme given by the United Nations: Reimagine, Recreate, Restore.

28 submissions were received for the competition that was judged by Ms Suma N S (Lecturer, Dept. of Humanities), Ms Athira Rajan (Asst Professor G-I, NISH) and Ms Jinciliy Susan Paul (Speech Language Pathologist - Grade I, NISH).

1st place: Ms Soorya T (2nd year B.ASLP)

2nd place: Ms Sinchana Hegde (1st year B.ASLP)

3rd place: Ms Omega Anthony (2nd year B.ASLP)
