Outreach for career guidance

The Sustainable Development (SDG) Cell of Nitte DU in association with the NCAP Cell, Nitte DU conducted outreach programs for the benefit of the women students of various schools of Dakshina Kannada district on 30th & 31st October 2023.

The students were educated on the various options & prospects at the Nitte University and encouraged to apply especially to courses where women are under-represented. They were provided with flyers, materials and links to access the admissions at Nitte University. The talk emphasized on the various facilities provided for the women students - women friendly campus, safety & security measures in place, provisions at the women’s hostels etc.

News from NMAMIT | Team NMAMIT bags 1st Place in the National Level Competition organised by FPSI

The Fluid Power Society of India (FPSI) conducted a national-level ‘MS Yoganarasimha Award for Innovation in Design’ between 16th & 30th September 2023, to commemorate its Golden Jubilee celebrations. The team with Mr. Niranjan Sharma K V and Ms. Sandhya D Bhat, Research Associates of Dept. of Robotics & AI, NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte, presented the work on ‘Realisation of different weld schedules in pneumatically controlled electrode in Resistance Spot Welding machine’ under the guidance of Prof. (Dr) Muralidhara, Head, Dept. of Robotics & AI and won the first place with a total cash prize of Rs. 85,000/-.

The jury panel comprised of experts from industry and academia. The evaluation of the design was based on the uniqueness of the concept, innovation, energy saving, ease of implementation and clarity of presentation. The award was presented at the Second Fluid Power R&D Confluence (FPRD 2023) held on 7th October 2023, at BMS College of Engineering, Basavanagudi, Bengaluru. 20 teams from 13 engineering institutions from all over the country participated in this competition.



World Bioethics Day 2023

World Bioethics Day 2023 was organized by the Nitte Bioethics Steering Committee and Students Wing Bioethics Unit on 21st October 2023 at Chintana, Justice KS Hegde Charitable Hospital.

Dr. Purusotham Chippala, Member Secretary, welcomed the gathering. This was followed by a Lamp Lighting Ceremony with a prayer led by Ms. Sreeksha & Ms. Suraksha.

Prof. (Dr) Animesh Jain, Community Medicine, KMC, Mangaluru delivered an interactive and informative talk on the theme ‘Protecting the Future Generations and Ethics’.

Prof. (Dr) MS Moodithaya, Vice Chancellor, Nitte University & President of Nitte Bioethics Steering Committee delivered presidential remarks.

Thereafter the members of the new Bioethics Student Council (2023-24) took their oath. Prizes were distributed to the winners of the various competitions held during 2022-23. The most active member award was presented to Ms. Muskan Gupta, KSHEMA.

This was followed by the release of the new Bioethics Student Magazine by Ms. Aditi Ravuri, the Student President (2022-23). The vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Thrupti Shetty, Student President (2023-24).

News from NMAMIT | Rice donatiion drive

In the spirit of celebrating National Rice Month, the Annadaana Club, under Abhyuday - Department of Counselling, Welfare, Training & Placement, NMAMIT embarked on a remarkable community outreach program - a rice donation drive. The motive of their initiative revolves around the club’s name itself, ‘ANNA - DAANA’, which translates to ‘Donating rice’.

The Annadaana Club achieved an inspiring feat by collecting a whopping 400 kilograms of rice. This incredible collection became the catalyst for their noble cause, which was to provide rice to various deserving institutions in the Karkala region.

The club donated 100 kilograms of rice to each of the following organizations: 
1. Devditha Old Age Home, Kedinje, Karkala 
2. Chetana Special School, Karkala 
3. Vijetha Special School, Karkala 
4. Suraksha Seva Ashram, Karkala 

Annadaana Team will continue to make a meaningful contribution towards addressing issues of hunger and starvation.



News from NMAMIT | National Symposium on "RECENT ADVANCES IN PROCESSING TECHNIQUES FOR IMPROVING THE SURFACE INTEGRITY OF AEROSPACE-DEFENCE MATERIALS (RPISD 2023)”

The Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, NMAMIT organized a 2-day National Symposium on "Recent Advances in Processing Techniques for improving the Surface Integrity of Aerospace-Defence Materials (RPISD 2023)" sponsored by DRDO (Defence Research & Development Organization), New Delhi on 6th & 7th October 2023.

Dr. Dillibabu Vijayakumar, Scientist 'F' at Gas Turbine Research Establishment, DRDO Bengaluru, inaugurated the symposium and delivered the keynote lecture. He spoke about the importance of DRDO's R&D opportunities for engineering faculty, students & startups and handed over a book of DRDO-developed projects to Dr. Mithanthaya, Vice Principal & Dean (Academics), NMAMIT

Dr. Mithanthaya presided over the function and highlighted the significance of 'Engineers without Borders' project thereby motivating the students to actively participate in these activities in association with DRDO.

Dr. Grynal D'Mello, Assoc. Professor & Convenor of the symposium, welcomed the gathering.

Dr. Srinivasa Pai P, Head, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering provided an overview of the symposium.

Mr. Bhaskara P Achar, Convener of the symposium, proposed the vote of thanks.

Mr. Vikas Marakini, Convenor coordinated the sessions.

Experts from DRDO, NIT, Defence and private institutions delivered talks on various topics over the two days. Ten participants from other institutions presented their posters during the symposium.

A total of 35 delegates participated in this symposium.



News from NIPE | A “Beach Clean-up Drive”

A “Beach Clean-up Drive” was organized by the NSS Unit of Nitte Institute of Professional Education on 17th October 2023 at Bengre beach, Mangaluru. 69 volunteers of BBA & BCA programs participated in the 3-hour beach clean-up activity. The students collected 160 kgs of plastic and other debris, which was subsequently sent to a processing unit for recycling. In addition to their clean-up efforts, the students engaged with beachgoers and the general public, urging them to prioritize cleanliness and reduce the use of plastic items, which had been a significant contributor to the litter problem at the beach. Prof. Dr. Pradeepa KS, NSS Coordinator and Mr. Daksha M, Asst. Professor coordinated the drive and actively participated in the same.

Sharada Pooja and Gana Homa were performed in the school with devotion on 16th October 2023. Principal, Ms. Shreelatha Rao led the rituals and the staff, students and PTA gathered to seek the blessings of the Goddess of knowledge to have a successful academic year. Positive vibes filled the air as bhajans were sung in chorus. On this occasion, Ayudha Pooja and Vahana Pooja were also performed.

Institutional Alumni Relations Cell, NIPT organized a webinar on “Navigating the Parental Decision Maze in Cerebral Palsy Management” with Dr. Sumam Sunny, Asst. Professor, Ashok & Rita Patel Institute of Physiotherapy, Charusat University, Gujarat as the resource person.

Prof. Dr. Dhanesh Kumar K U, Principal welcomed the gathering. Dr. Sumam Sunny, an alumna (2008 batch BPT & 2013 batch MPT) spoke in depth about the reasons of parental concerns, how to address them and how to effectively document treatment protocols to ensure adherence. Interns & final year postgraduates of Neurophysiotherapy and Pediatrics electives were the beneficiaries of the webinar.

Students of NRAM Polytechnic, Nitte emerged as Champions in the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District Inter Polytechnic Volley Ball (Men) Tournament organized by the SDM Polytechnic, Ujire on 4th October 2023. Mr. Suraj from ECE Branch received the Best Attacker award and Supreeth from Mechanical Branch received the Best Tournament Passer award. Congratulations to the winners!!

NRAM Polytechnic conducted the College Sports Day at BC Alva Sports Complex, Nitte on 20th October 2023. Sri. Karunakar Shetty, Vice President, Udupi District Athletic Association was the Chief Guest. In his inaugural speech, Sri. Karunakar Shetty inspired the students to actively participate in sports activities.

News from NIPT | Systematic Inter Specialty Scientific Approach (NIPT-SISSA)

Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy - Systematic Inter Specialty Scientific Approach (NIPT-SISSA) was started for postgraduates to enhance their skills in case presentation. Ms. Sharvari, II MPT (Musculoskeletal); Ms Yashwitha, II MPT (Sports) and Ms Aishwarya Babu, II MPT (Neurophysiotherapy) presented the case together.

Mr. Jaya P, Asst. Professor, Fr. Muller’s College of Physiotherapy and alumnus of NIPT was invited as an external evaluator. Mr. Jayesh Chandran and Ms Ramya H S, Asst. Professors, were the internal evaluators. The students presented the case at Orthopedic Unit I (bedside), Justice KS Hegde Charitable Hospital. The intended outcome to develop cross consultation in students and improving their skills and expertise in handling assessment and managing the case was met. The evaluators gave valuable inputs to improve the method of assessment and physiotherapy rehabilitation.

Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy in association with the Ramakrishna Mission Swachh Mangaluru Abhiyan conducted a ‘Swachhanjali-Plogging drive’ on 1st October 2023 at Ramakrishna Math. A total of 85 students with faculty of NIPT - Dr. Dhanesh Kumar KU, Dr. Purusotham Chippala, Mr. Nityal Kumar and Swachh Sena Coordinator Ms. Neha Shetty participated actively in the event. Sri N Vinaya Hegde, Chancellor, Nitte University inaugurated the formal function.

News from NGSMIPS | Five-day Certificate Course on Drug Design Strategies (DDS)

The CADD LAB, NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences conducted a five-day Certificate Course on Drug Design Strategies (DDS) from 18th to 23rd September 2023 in the CADD LAB of the college.

Dr. CS Shastry, Principal, NGSMIPS delivered the welcome address. Dr. Mohammed Gulzar Ahmed, Principal, Yenepoya Pharmacy College & Research Centre, Mangalore was the chief guest. Dr. Pankaj Kumar, Course Coordinator, Certificate Course - Drug Design Strategies (DDS) gave an introduction about the certificate course. Dr. Jainey P. James, Asst. Professor Dept. of Pharmaceutical Chemistry proposed the vote of thanks.

A total of 11 participants from Sreedevi College of Pharmacy, Yenepoya Pharmacy College, NUCSER and NGSMIPS registered for the Certificate Course.




After the inaugural function, the session continued with a Talk by Dr. Aravinda Pai, Asst. Professor, Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences on the topic, ‘Introduction to Computer-aided Drug Design’ which was followed by a hands-on training and assessment.


DAY 2
In the morning session Dr. Jainey P. James delivered a talk on “Introduction to molecular docking”, while the afternoon session featured a hands-on exercise and evaluation.



DAY 3
Dr. Pankaj Kumar engaged the morning session with his talk on “Protein preparation and minimization”. The afternoon session featured a hands-on session and assessment.


DAY 4 
Dr. Jainey P James delivered a talk on “ADMET properties” in the morning session, while the afternoon program featured a hands-on session and assessment.

DAY 5 
Dr. Pankaj Kumar delivered a talk on the “Pharmacophore concept & its features” in the forenoon session. The afternoon session ended with a final assessment. The five-day certificate course included Hands-on Training with different interfaces of CADD software Schrodinger, such as Glide, Phase, QikProp. This was followed by a valedictory function. Dr. CS. Shastry handed over Participation Certificates to all the participants. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Jainey P. James and Dr. Pankaj Kumar.

News from NGSMIPS | World Pharmacists Day

NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences observed World Pharmacists Day with the theme "Pharmacists Strengthening Health Systems", on 25th September 2023. Pharmacists Day is celebrated to honour distinguished pharmacists whose contributions to societal wellbeing and improved global health outcomes have been significant in advancing the profession of pharmacy.

Shri. TP Sujith, Dy. Drugs Controller, Regional Office, Mangalore Division graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Prof. (Dr.) M S Moodithaya, Vice Chancellor, Nitte DU was the guest of honour. Prof. (Dr.) R Narayana Charyulu, Vice Principal, NGSMIPS welcomed the gathering and Prof. (Dr.) CS Shastry, Principal, NGSMIPS introduced the chief guest. In his speech, Shri. TP Sujith emphasized how pharmacists use their experience, knowledge and skill to improve the quality of life in the healthcare domain.

On this occasion two distinguished pharmacists and entrepreneurs Mr. Ashok Kumar N of Rao Associates, Mangaluru and Mr. Sharath Alva of Ganesh Medicals, Mangaluru, were felicitated in recognition of their contribution to the profession of pharmacy and towards society. Dr. Uday Venkat Mateti, Asst. Professor, Pharmacy Practice introduced the Distinguished Pharmacists to the gathering. Mr. Ashok Kumar N and Mr. Sharath Alva shared their experience with the gathering.

Prof. (Dr.) Moodithaya appreciated the college for celebrating World Pharmacists Day and honouring the distinguished pharmacists of DK District.

On this occasion, the college organised Quiz, Slogan writing and e-Poster Competitions. The winners were presented with medals and certificates of appreciation. Dr. Marina Koland, Professor & Head, Dept. of Pharmaceutics, proposed the vote of thanks.
