Mr. Karthik Kudroli, Asst. Professor, Gd III at Justice K S Hegde Institute of Management was invited as a resource person for a Short-Term Training Program organized by Malaviya National Institute of Technology, Jaipur from 16th to 21st December 2024. The training was conducted exclusively for 30 teachers of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya from Rajasthan, Haryana and Chhattisgarh.

News from NIA | Waste to Wonder - Christmas Tree Challenge & Prize Distribution
Nitte Institute of Architecture celebrated the holiday season with the "Waste to Wonder:
Christmas Tree Challenge" on December 19, 2024. This online competition, aimed at
promoting creativity and sustainability, featured two age-based categories: under 18 and
above 18. Participants showcased an impressive array of innovative and eco-friendly
Christmas tree designs, each a testament to their artistic talent and resourcefulness.
The competition concluded on December 26, 2024 with winners announced on the same day.
The prize winners were honored during a prize distribution ceremony held at the Nitte
Institute of Architecture on January 11, 2025.
A special note of gratitude to our Chief Guest, Dr. A.N. Parameswaran, for gracing the occasion
and enriching the event with his insights and presence.

Ms. Prisha of Class 7 participated in the selection trial for the Sub Junior (U-13) National level Basketball team at Shree Kanteerava Stadium, Bangalore and was one among the selected 13 players. She was the only candidate representing National level from Udupi & Dakshina Kannada Districts.

Students of Dr. NSAM English Medium High School participated in the Udupi District AICS (Association of ICSE & CBSE Schools of Udupi District) Inter School Athletic Meet held at Alva’s Central School, Moodabidri on 21st December 2024. Around 35 schools of the district participated in this Athletic Meet.
Rakshath of Class 9 clinched gold in 800 mtrs race and silver in 400 mtrs race and was awarded the Individual Championship.
Stuti of Class 9 bagged gold in the 800 mtrs race; Drishya of Class 10 gold in discus throw; Varshith of Class 8 won the bronze medal in the 600 mtrs race.
We congratulate our energetic athletes for their outstanding performance.

News from NICO | Soliloquy Sessions
Denouement, the Theatre Club of NICO, held an engaging event titled Soliloquy Sessions, where club members presented a series of monologue performances. The event held on 8th November 2024 provided a unique platform for students to showcase their theatrical skills through solo performances and celebrate the timeless art of monologues. It drew an enthusiastic crowd of faculty, students and guests who were eager to experience the diverse characters and narratives brought to life on stage. Students chose characters from classic works such as Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull, Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and contemporary pieces like The Addams Family, Girish Karnad’s The Fire and The Rain etc.
News from NICO | Value Added Course on Makeup
Nitte Institute of Communication organized an intensive value-added course on makeup, focusing on its application within the realm of acting theory and practice. This hands-on course was held over three days, from November 7th to 9th, 2024 and aimed to enhance students’ skills in theatrical makeup, an essential tool in bringing characters to life on stage. Mr. S Somanath Sankolige, a renowned artist with over three decades of experience in theatre, served as the resource person.

The Secret Santa 24 event, organized by
the Nitte Institute of Architecture (NIA) in
collaboration with the NIA Student
Council, NSS and Rotaract Club, was a
heart-warming celebration held on
December 22, 2024 at Snehadeepa Girls
Orphanage in Bondel, Mangalore. The
event embodied the true spirit of
Christmas, focusing on kindness, love and
the joy of giving. It began with a warm
welcome, followed by a lively carol-
singing session that filled the air with festive cheer. The children enjoyed refreshments and
engaging games, creating an atmosphere of joy and laughter. The highlight of the event was
the arrival of Santa Claus, who distributed gifts, sparking excitement and smiles among the
children. This thoughtful gesture captured the essence of the season, leaving everyone with
cherished memories. Secret Santa 24 was a beautiful celebration of love and generosity,
bringing joy and warmth to all who participated.

News from NIA | NATA/JEE Workshop
The Nitte Institute of Architecture,
Mangalore Campus, in collaboration
with DQ Labs, successfully conducted a
3-day online workshop from 13th to
15th December 2024, focused on
preparing students for the NATA/JEE P2
2025 exams. The free workshop
attracted a large number of aspiring
architecture students from across the
country. Through engaging online
sessions,
the
event
provided
participants with valuable insights into
exam preparation, covering essential
topics such as drawing techniques,
aptitude
reasoning
and
time management strategies. Expert mentors from DQ Labs led the sessions, offering practical tips
and personalized feedback, to help students enhance their performance.
The workshop received overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants, who appreciated
the interactive format and the detailed guidance provided by the instructors. Mock tests and
hands-on exercises enabled students to assess their strengths and identify areas for
improvement. The event not only prepared students academically but also boosted their
confidence to approach the exams effectively. This initiative reflects the Nitte Institute of
Architecture's commitment to fostering the growth and success of future architects.

News from NIPT | Free physiotherapy service at Sabarimala
Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy in association with the Indian Association of Physiotherapy (IAP) Kerala and Pathanamthitta Rehabilitation & Palliative Centre Society (PRPC) organized a free Physiotherapy Camp at Sabarimala for the second time in 2024 under the guidance of the Principal, Prof. (Dr) Dhanesh Kumar.
Mr. Rakesh Krishna, Mr. Jayesh Chandran & Mr. Nityal Kumar, faculty of NIPT rendered free physiotherapy services to the devotees at the Emergency Medical Centre (EMC) 7, Appachimedu from 18th to 20th December 2024. An average of 75 devotees per day, with severe cramps, spasms in the lower limbs were treated effectively with physiotherapeutic techniques, liniments & other modalities. Most of the devotees hailed from Kerala, Tamilnadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telengana and Karnataka.

National Cadet Corps (NCC) training
The Rowing Boat Simulator Training was conducted for the NCC cadets of the Nitte University, on 13th December 2024 at Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal & 6 Karnataka Naval NCC Unit, Udupi to enhance the physical fitness, teamwork and basic rowing skills, using specialized rowing simulators. The training activities included introduction to the rowing techniques and simulator equipment, basic posture and rowing stroke mechanics and hands-on training on the simulator for individual cadets.
Total number of participants were 9. The trainer for the session was Sub. Lt. V. Prashanth Kamath.

News from NUINS | Workshop on PALS and NRP
A two-day workshop on Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) was organized for the V semester BSc. Nursing students on 5th & 6th December, 2024 at NU-MEDISIM, K S Hegde Hospital.
The workshop provided comprehensive hands-on training sessions and focused on equipping students with essential skills & knowledge required to manage emergencies involving infants & children.
Key training areas included the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and choking management. Students were trained in evaluating sick children, recognizing emergency symptoms, initiating appropriate interventions and mastering primary & secondary assessment techniques. Emphasis was placed on hands-on practice to ensure students gain practical competence in pediatric resuscitation and emergency management.
A total of 104 students participated in the workshop,
The program was facilitated by Prof. Sujatha R, HoD; Dr. Sharlet Dsouza, Assoc. Professor and Ms. Sheryl Fernandes, Lecturer, from the Dept. of Child Health Nursing.
News from ABSMIDS | Art of Museum Technique
Art of Museum Technique
The Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology and Oral Microbiology, organized a 2-day Certificate Course on “Art of Museum Technique” to empower students & professionals, with skills in handling, preserving and displaying pathological specimens, which are crucial for education and research.
Prof. (Dr) Sreelatha SV, HoD, Oral Pathology welcomed the gathering. Prof. (Dr) Suma Ballal, Dy. Registrar, Nitte University, emphasized the significance of museum techniques in preserving and presenting oral pathology specimens for educational purposes. Vice Dean, Prof. (Dr) Mithra N Hegde, delivered the presidential speech and commended the department for its initiative to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.
Day 1:
The first part of the workshop consisted of a detailed lecture on the Art of Museum Techniques. Dr. Vidya C S, an expert in the field of museum curation, was the resource person. She introduced the concept of museum techniques in the context of oral pathology. Her lecture covered the importance of museum techniques and discussed the role of museum curation in preserving oral pathology specimens for educational and historical purposes The lecture concluded with an interactive Q & A session. Thereafter, participants were divided into smaller groups and engaged in the hands-on session, to provide practical experience. Emphasis was placed on proper documentation practices, including how to label specimens clearly & effectively, to ensure they are identifiable and accessible for future use.
Day 2:
The hands-on Luminal Cast Plastination Workshop aimed to introduce participants to the methods & applications of plastination in creating luminal casts for educational, research and diagnostic purposes. Theoretical aspects of plastination, creation of luminal casts and practical training in the laboratory setting were covered. Participants engaged in hands-on learning, focusing on Preparation of the Biological Sample; Selection & preservation of tissues for casting and Injection of Polymer into the Luminal Space. They learnt to inject polymer solutions into vessels / lumens to create accurate 3D replicas; polymer curing techniques to ensure that the polymer sets correctly to maintain anatomical integrity; removal of excess tissue or medium; proper preparation of the final cast, finishing techniques; polishing and preservation of the final luminal cast product. The hands-on session resulted in the successful creation of 4 luminal casts of the sheep lung tissue. The hands-on sessions and collaborative learning fostered a dynamic learning environment, allowing participants to engage directly with the methods and applications of plastination.
Certificates were presented to all participants in recognition of their active participation and successful completion of the workshop activities.

Raghav Katyal, II MSc (Audiology) and Jim Saroj Winston, Assistant Professor, NISH won the Best Poster Presentation (Audiology) award, for their paper titled “Exploring the Efficacy of Bone-Conduction Masseter Vemp for Vestibular Assessment in Conductive Hearing Loss: A Simulation Study” presented at the conference “MISHCON 2024” held at Mar Thoma Institute of Speech and Hearing, Kerala on 14th December 2024.

News from ABSMIDS | Free dental treatment camp
The Department of Public Health Dentistry, ABSMIDS in association with the Hindu Junior College, Shirva conducted a free dental treatment camp at Hindu Junior College, Shirva on 8th December 2024. Oral health awareness was provided.
A total of 33 patients were screened during the camp. 18 patients underwent oral prophylaxis, 13 patients underwent restoration, 1 patient underwent extraction and 6 patients were referred to Shirva Rural Satellite Centre for further treatment.

News from NMAMIT | NMAMIT hosts INDO-UK Collaborative International Conference NMCCER 2024
The Centre for New Materials & Surface Engineering, Dept. of Chemistry at NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte, hosted a SPARC-funded 2-day International Conference on 'New Materials in Carbon Capture & Environmental Remediation' (NMCCER 2024) on 5th & 6th December 2024. The conference is the outcome of a joint project awarded to Dr. Santosh Tiwari, Assoc. Professor, NMAMIT and Dr. Oluwafunmilola Ola, University of Nottingham. This significant event brought together leading academics and researchers from the UK, Germany and Denmark to discuss cutting-edge developments in new materials and carbon capture technologies.
The Chief Guest Prof. Ajayan Vinu from the University of Newcastle, Australia emphasized the importance of carbon capture in addressing pressing global environmental challenges. Sri N Vinaya Hegde, Chancellor, Nitte University, highlighted the need for rapid structural reforms in academia to enable advanced research. He commended the organizing team, especially Dr. Tiwari, for their contribution to research and innovation.
The discussions on the first day underscored the need for developing novel nanomaterials, such as graphene, MXenes, and other functional nanostructures, as potential solutions to current environmental challenges.
Guests of Honor, Dr. MS Moodithaya, Vice Chancellor, Nitte DU and Dr. Gopal Mugeraya, Vice President (Technical Education) shared their insights on fostering interdisciplinary research and collaboration to tackle pressing environmental issues.
The conference, coordinated under the leadership of Dr. Arti S Bhatt, HoD, Chemistry featured a diverse range of sessions, including presentations by renowned scientists and discussions on emerging trends in nanomaterials and green technologies. Dr. Ajayan Vinu, Dr. Yanqiu Zhu, Prof. Yogendra Kumar Mishra, Prof. Prashanth, Prof. Nannan Wang, Prof. Fang Xu, Dr. Santosh Tiwari, Prof. Oluwafunmilola Ola and Dr. Sahoo were the resource persons who delivered Plenary & Keynote addresses during this conference.
