On the eve of World Anaesthesia Day celebration (commemorating the first public demonstration of successful anaesthesia for painless surgery), a ‘Labour Analgesia’ (painless delivery) clinic by the department of Anaesthesiology was inaugurated at K S Hegde Hospital, Deralakatte, Mangalore by Prof Dr M Shantharam Shetty, Pro-Chancellor, Nitte University on 16th October 2014. This facility is important to all the women who invariably experience excruciating pain during delivery. No one has to bear these labour pains any more as labour analgesia has come as a boon to all the women on earth. The ultimate goal of this clinic is to have a healthy baby delivered in to the arms of alert and painfree mother, adding a great amount of benefit of health to both of them. Prof Dr S Ramananda Shetty, Vice Chancellor, Nitte University was the chief guest. Prof Dr Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Dean, KSHEMA presided over the function. Dr Anand Bangera, Professor & HOD, Dept. of Anaesthesiology welcomed the gathering. Dr Sripada G Mehandale, Professor of Anaesthesiology proposed vote of thanks. Prof Dr Harish Shetty, Professor & HOD, Dept. of Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Prof Dr Karuna Ramesh, Medical Superintendent, K S Hegde Hospital were present on this occasion.
The inauguration was followed by a guest lecture on ‘Labour Analgesia’ by Dr Suresh Kumar N from Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College, Kolar
There was an inter collegiate quiz programme for post graduate students of Anaesthesiology conducted by Dr Murali Shankar Bhat and Dr Rashmi Soori.
This was followed by cultural programme by all the personnel involved in the management of operation theater.
On this occasion students of B Sc Anaesthesia and OT Technology course presented a model depicting the variety of role played by the Anaesthesiologists in today’s practice.
