MOU Signed between Nitte University and Sarva Shikshana Abhiyayana as a Holistic Approach towards Health Care for Children with special needs in Mangalore

N-SPECC (Nitte Special Child Care) is a health care programme, which aims to target children with special needs residing in and around Mangalore, whose parents need support and facilities to travel to the hospital and seek health care.

To make the programme more beneficial to the children in and around Mangalore, an MOU was signed on 17th July, 2015, between the Vice Chancellor of Nitte University, Prof (Dr) Ramananda Shetty, and the Block Education Officer, Mangalore South Zone. Mr. Jnanesh. According to the MOU, the children with special needs identified through the Sarva Shikshana Abhiyayana will be brought to the various speciality departments of the Nitte University, which includes A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences and K.S. Hegde Medical Academy for their respective treatments on every Wednesday. Specialized treatment will also be provided on other weekdays.



Under this programme, which is an undertaking of the Nitte University and Sarva Shikshana Abhiyayana, medical and dental health care which includes the specialities of Pedodontics, Paediatrics, ENT, Paediatric Surgery, Psychiatry, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Speech and Hearing and Nursing from the Nitte University will be provided to specially abled children from various clusters in and around Mangalore.

The programme commenced on 5th August in the presence of Prof. Dr. M.S. Moodithaya, Registrar of the Nitte University and Prof (Dr) Vijaya Shenoy, H.O.D. Department of Pediatrics, KSHEMA . The main coordinator of the programme will be Prof (Dr) Amitha M. Hegde and co- coordinator will be Dr. Amarshree Shetty.
