30th year celebration – ABSMIDS And International conference on oral health and well-being

To commemorate 30 years of academic excellence of A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences, Nitte University, an International Conference on Oral Health and Well-being was held from the 15th to 17th of October 2015 in which splendid array of scientists, researchers, academicians, clinicians and students participated. The aim of this conference was to learn and share knowledge about the recent concepts in Oral Health and Well-being. This conference was a forum for delegates and students to interact with a wide array of participants and showcase their knowledge in the form of papers, posters, table clinics and teaching modules. The conference was attended by over 900 delegates, which included faculty, postgraduate students and undergraduate students from 56 institutions from all across the globe.

INAUGURATION OF THE PRE-CONFERENCE COURSE
The Pre conference sessions were inaugurated by Prof (Dr) Shripathi Rao , Chief Guest of the function & Dean, Yenepoya Dental College at 9:00 A.M. at Vimshati Bhavan. The dignitaries present on the dias included Prof (Dr) Shridhar Shetty, Founder Dean and Director – CADSS , Prof(Dr) Krishna Nayak , Principal & Dean , Prof(Dr) Mithra N Hegde , Vice Principal & Vice Dean , Dean of faculty of dental sciences & Head of the Department of Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics , Prof (Dr)Rajendra Prasad , Director of PG Studies , Prof (Dr) Krishna Prasad, Senior Professor of Prosthodontics & Convener of Pre Conference courses and Prof(Dr) Shishir Shetty , Organizing Secretary & Professor of Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics. The gathering was welcomed by Prof (Dr) Mithra N Hegde, Organizing Chairperson. The function was inaugurated by lighting of the lamp and address by the chief guest. The vote of thanks was delivered by Prof (Dr) Krishna Prasad, Convener of Pre Conference courses. Preconference course on various imperative topics included Lasers in Dentistry by Dr. Jagdish Pai, Implants in Dentistry by Dr. Anand Krishnan and Prof. Dr. Shilpa Shetty, Aesthetics in Dentistry by Dr. Arvind Shenoy, Microscopes in Dentistry by Dr. Amit Patodia and Dr. Mansingh Pawar, Rotary Endodontics by Dr. Anil Dhingra and CAD CAM in Dentistry by Dr. Vikas Gowd, which added an insight to ponder and confer over crux of today’s scientific perk up.

Shantharam Shetty, Pro Chancellor - Hospital Management and Medical PG Studies,Nitte University on Thursday, 15th of October 2015 at 04.30 P.M. at the K. S. Hegde Auditorium, Deralakatte, Mangaluru. Prof. (Dr.) K. Sadashiv Shetty, Principal and Dean, Bapuji Dental College and Hospital, Davanagere; Dean – Dental Faculty, RGUHS, Bengaluru was the Chief Guest. Guests of Honour was Prof. (Dr.) S. Ramananda Shetty Vice Chancellor, Nitte University. Prof (Dr) Krishna Nayak , Principal & Dean welcomed the gathering. Prof (Dr) Mithra N Hegde , Organizing Chairperson briefed about the proceedings conference. The Professors from the medical fraternity who have been serving the institute since 30 years , the founder dean , former principal , the present dean , the first batch alumni , alumni serving as principals in various dental institutes were felicitated on the occasion. Prof (Dr) Shantharam Shetty addressed the gathering. Prof (Dr) Ramananda Shetty released the souvenier of the conference . Prof(Dr) Sadashiva Shetty was the chief guest of the function. Prof (Dr) Shridhar Shetty , Founder Dean and Director – CADSS presided over the function. The vote of thanks was delivered by Prof(Dr) Shishir Shetty , the Organizing Secretary.

 Lecture by Prof(Dr) Sudipto Dutta on Awareness among patients regarding Implants as a treatment option for replacement of missing teeth in Bilaspur District Chhattisgarh.

Lecture by Dr. Lt. Col. Sonali Sharma on Lasers in Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics

On day 2, the lectures by Invited Speakers included Dr. Lt. Col. Sonali Sharma, Dr. Indrani Karunasagar, Dr. Dr. Vikram Shetty, Dr. Suchetha Shetty, Dr. Shashi Rashmi Acharya, Dr. M. S.Nivedita, Dr. Pratima Shenoi, Dr. Sonali Kapoor, Dr. Ajinkya Pawar, Dr. Anil Melath, Dr. Kanwalpreet Bhullar, Dr. B. M. Shantala, Dr. Sonal Bakul Joshi, Dr. Divya Tahiliani & Dr. Arshia Baig which were a scientific rostrum to unveil the novel developments and to cogitate, and conflate ideas and realities through practical experiences.

Simultaneously, a scientific forum was provided for the faculty, postgraduate & undergraduate students, which included presentation of scientific papers, posters, teaching module & table clinics.

Day 3 started with the keynote session with lectures by Dr. E. G. R. Solomon, Dr. Preetha Kanjirath, Dr. Susan George, Dr. Geetha Balamurugan, Dr. Uma Sakkia, Dr. Shantipriya Reddy, Dr. Sudipto Dutta and Dr. Ashish Kakar, which provided an unparagoned, and an unmissable opportunity to engross the latest information bobbing in the modern age.

The three-day International conference concluded with the validectory function which included the award ceremony & felicitation of the organizing committee members present. The Overall Best Paper award was bagged by Miss Nishmitha N Hegde in the UG category & Dr. Ankit Sajnani in conservative dentistry & Dr. Vikas from GDC,Mumbai in Endodontics in PG Category. The overall best poster award was bagged by Miss Shreya Shetty & Miss Madhura Ramnath in the UG Category & Dr Anjana C M in PG category. The overall best teaching module was bagged by Mr . Daren Floyd & team in the UG Category & by Dr. Kotecha Ankita Kirit Kumar & team in the PG category. Miss Nishmitha N Hegde & team in the UG category and Dr Akash Menon & team in PG category bagged the overall best table clinic. The best faculty paper in community dentistry was bagged by Peoples Dental College , Bhopal & the UG & PG awards in Community Dentistry were bagged by KLE Institute of Dental Sciences , Belgaum. The overall best efforts for clinical excellence was bagged by Saveetha Dental College .
