Karkala: Nitte Institute of Technology in association with Redhat had organised 2 days “NITTE OPEN SOURCE CONFERENCE-2016” on 18th and 19th of March at NMAM Institute of Technology. The International conference was inaugurated by the HOD of MCA department Dr.K.Mohan Hegde.
Mr.Dan Lambright, Principal Software Engineer, Mr.Kaleb S Keithley, Senior Principal Software Engineer, from Red Hat Westford, USA, Mr.Niels de Vos, Senior Software Engineer from Red Hat Netherlands, Mr.Joseph Elwin Fernandes, Senior Software Engineer, Mr.Vishwanath Bhat, Senior Quality Assurance Engineer, Lalatendu Mohanthy,senior Software Engineer, Soumya Deb,Platform Evangelist, Atin Mukharjee,Senior Software Engineer, Rafi Kavungal Chundattu Parambil,Associate Software Engineer from from Red Hat India Pvt.Ltd,Bangalore, Ms.Saumya Hegde, Assistant Professor, NITK Surathkal, Mr.Hemanth Kumar, Assistant Professor, CSE,NMAMIT Nitte were the special guest speakers present during the conference. These 11 speakers gave their presentations about topics like programming language, storage, virtualization, operating system, cloud, web, community, mobile, graphics, research papers.
NITTE OPEN SOURCE CONFERENCE-2016 aimed at spreading open source awareness in Engineering colleges in and around Udupi & Mangalore region and to inspire students to contribute to open source movement. All the sessions were of interactive type and students got the privilege to clarify different kinds of doubts they had with respect to open source in various communities.
Students were given an opportunity to present their ideas, concepts, demos etc. 8 slots were given of 12 minutes each. The competition was named as lightening talk. Students from many colleges took part in this competition and Mr.Dattaraj C Vernekar, Student,CSE, NITK, Surathkal, won first place for his talk on “Developing A cost-Effective openflow Raspberry PI Switch testbed” and Ms.Shreevidya S.D, student of CSE, NITK, Surathkal won 2nd place for her talk on “Multipathrouting”.
The judges were Mr.Atin Mukherjee, Senior Software Engineer at Red Hat India Pvt.Ltd, Saumya Deb , Platform Evangelist at Red Hat India Pvt.Ltd Bangalore. Lalatendu Mohanty, Senior software Engineer at Red Hat India Pvt.Ltd distributed the prizes to the winners.
Director of MCA Department Dr.K.Mohan Hegde welcomed the gathering. Principal of NMAMIT Dr.Niranjan N Chiplunkar delivered the vote of thanks. Lecturer Ms. Sarika Hegde compered the programme.
