Geriatric daycare centre - K S Hegde Hospital

Family structure in India is changing rapidly – from joint family to nuclear family to even single parent families. When both husband and wife work outside, they have no time to spare for their elderly parents during day time. This often makes the lives of the elderly miserable due to loneliness and physical disabilities.

Care of the elderly is a neglected area in our country. Keeping these aspects in mind K.S.Hegde Medical Academy. (Nitte University) decided to initiate some activity in this direction. KSHEMA SANDHYA a Geriatric Daycare Centre will be started in the Justice K.S.Hegde Charitable Hospital. In this scheme the elderly citizens from Mangalore will be given free transport from Nitte Education International (Hotel Pentagon) to Justice K.S. Hegde Hospital at 9.30 a.m. and return at 4 p.m. Geriatric persons from Thokkottu and in & around Deralakatte can also avail the benefits.

The Elderly will be provided facilities like reading (newspapers, magazine, books), T.V, Games, Yoga and other group activities. Computer facility will also be provided soon. There will be a qualified staff nurse and an assistant to take care of them. The elderly have access for consulting the various specialists in the OPD. The caregivers are also encouraged to accompany them occasionally. 

A van is provided exclusively for the Geriatric Daycare Centre which has been (Donated by the Syndicate Bank) The inmates will be provided light refreshments and lunch.

Terms and Conditions.

  • Clients aged 60 years and above are eligible. 
  • Clients should be fit enough to take care of themselves. 
  • Clients should assemble at Nitte Education International (Hotel Pentagon ) at Mahaveera Circle (Pumpwell) at 9.30 a.m. Conveyance will be arranged by KSHEMA. They will be dropped back at the same place at 4.00 p.m. 
  • Family members/Clients make arrangements themselves to reach hotel Pentagon and return home in the evening. 
  • The hospital will not be responsible if any untoward incidents/ injuries/ medical complications happen incidentally or accidentally during the hospital stay or transport. 
  • If the client is on any medication (noon dose or daytime dose) the same has to be brought to the hospital by the client. 
  • On request Chronic Medical Illnesses, Diabetes, Hypertension etc will be monitored by concerned specialties in the hospital regularly.
