Cross Infection Control for Paramedical housekeeping Staff - ABSMIDS

Workshop on Cross Infection Control for Paramedical/ housekeeping Staff of A. B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences held from 27th April to 29th April 2016


The reconstituted Infection Control Cell of A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences organized a Workshop on Cross Infection Control for Nurses, Clinical Assistants, Attenders and Sweepers under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) U.S. Krishna Nayak, Principal and Dean, ABSMIDS, Prof.(Dr.) N.Sridhar Shetty, Founder Dean and Director CADSS and Prof.(Dr.) B.Rajendra Prasad, Former Dean and Director of P.G. Studies,

The workshop was held in three batches, from 27th April to 29th April 2016 at Vimshathi Bhavan between 1:30 PM and 3:30 PM.

The workshop was inaugurated by the lighting of the lamp by Prof.(Dr.) B. Rajendra Prasad,

Dr. Kumuda Rao, Mrs. Veera D’Souza (Staff Nurse) and Prof.(Dr.) Manju Gopakumar, Dept. of Pedodontics.

Prof. (Dr.) N.Sridhar Shetty gave a brief introduction regarding the importance of cross infection control for the Dental health care personnel.

The resource persons for the workshop were, Prof. (Dr.) B. Rajendra Prasad (Director, PG Studies and Head, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery), Dr. Sahana Maben (Department of Public health Dentistry), Dr Kumuda Rao (Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology) and, Dr. Gopinath Thilak (Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery)

Prof. (Dr.) B. Rajendra Prasad spoke about sterilization and disinfection protocol to be followed in the Dental Clinics. Dr. Gopinath Thilak spoke about the importance of hand washing and barrier methods used to protect paramedical staff involved in infection control. Dr Kumuda Rao spoke about the preparation of the dental cubicle before and after patient treatment. The use of surface disinfectants and barriers was emphasized. Dr. Sahana Maben stressed the importance of proper disposal of clinical waste. The OSHA protocol for waste disposal was explained in detail.

Fifty-five paramedical/ housekeeping staff attended the workshop. Thirteen paramedical staff did not attend the workshop.

Dr. B. Rajendra Prasad, Dr. N.Sridar Shetty, Dr. U.S .Krishna Nayak (Advisory committe), Dr. Avaneendra Talwar (Chairperson), Dr. Kumudha Rao (Member secretary), Dr. Gopinath Thilak .P.S (Member), Dr. Sahana Maben (Member) were involved in the organization of the Workshop.
