Seminar-workshop and hands- on – OSCE in medical emergencies in Dental Practice - ABSMIDS

A seminar-workshop and Hands-on using Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) in Medical Emergencies in Dental Practice was conducted by Education and Development Unit of the Department of Oral Biology and Genomic Studies in Association with Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences, Nitte University Deralakate Mangalore Karnataka India.







The Chief Guest for the Seminar and workshop was the Principal and Dean Professor Shripathi Rao of Yenepoya Dental College, Mangalore Karnataka. He gave the presidential address and gave his insights and experience in managing medical emergencies in dental practice. Professor Ananda Bangera was a facilitating expert from the Department of Anaesthesiology KSEMA Medical College and Hospital Nitte University. He gave a comprehensive presentation and demonstration on Medical Emergencies in dental practice where an emergency doctor or an ambulance service is absent.

Professor (Dr) U.S. Krishna Nayak gave the welcome address and he expressed the importance of the programme and its implication of clinical dental practice. He felicities the dignitaries and spoke high of Professor Chitta Chowdhury for his innovative works persuaded throughout. Director of CADSS, Professor (Dr) N. Shridhar Shetty spoke on the topic and recommended the OSCE’s in medical emergencies in dental practice as a part of routine training for undergraduates and postgraduates at A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences Nitte University Professor Chitta Chowdhury head of Department of Oral Biology and Genomic Studies gave the introduction and induction about the programme. He conducted the workshop where Postgraduates and Staff from the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery participated. Director of Postgraduate Studies and Research Professor (Dr) Rajendra Prasad gave a brief talk on the topic. Emeritus Professor of Oral Surgery Professor SM Sharma was present as one of the expert observers.

2nd part of the event – Hands-on: A comprehensive hands-on training was undertaken which was assessed and facilitated by Professor Chowdhury to perform 11 medical emergencies as real-time practice scenarios by ist year MDS students of Oral Surgery at seminar room in presence of faculties and head of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. OSCE examiners were trained to perform how to conduct OSCE . Professor Anada Bangera, Professor B Rajendra Prasad and other senior faculties were present as observers of the assessment process.
