Say from Initiator Professor Chitta Chowdhury “Needful communication is an important determinant for a safer treatment. In India we do not communicate with our patients sufficiently, and as a result patients' are sometimes confused about their disease and treatment including prognosis.  Most of the time we do communicate in a sympathetic approach, which is wrong -- but we need to deal them empathically.   In this context, we are the health care providers overtly compromised with pressure of litigation things. We do not keep the expectations and psychological elements of a sick person in our consideration.

A trained and competent dental intern (Elaine Ang of Malysia) is demonstrating on how a medical emergency (case of severe anaphylaxis in dental practice) is managed to avoid a death in dental chair. Professor Chitta Cowdhury is facilitating for an assessment by a trainee examiner for intern Elaine. Well trained intern Doris Hoo Din (of Malaysia) is competently demonstrating on how to examine, assess and delegate a treatment plan of a case of oro antral communication. Professor Rajshekhar M, Director of Curriculum and Stuff Development of Nitte University is an observer of OSCE performance Medical and dental colleges in developed countries adequately train their potential doctors. This helps practice medicine and dentistry by using good communication skill. Also for this, they ensure that legislation and that is implemented completely, hence, there is no way a doctor can   ignore such OSCE simulated practice in real life.

Objective structure Clinical Examination (OSCE) is one of the assessment processes, which has been used to assess the competency of a clinician. Therefore, the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) could be a consideration as one of the assessment methods. OSCE practice ensures clinicians to be a safer doctor as they communicate with their patients with evidence –based information.  Successful OSCE performers ensure their competency for a valid procedure.  It also trains a doctor to communicate with his/her patients emphatically.

Effective communications with a treatment plan is rehearsed in OSCEs, and that safeguards clinicians, in case s/he has a treatment failure. I trained and tested the OSCE for dental Interns, it is workable. Essentially, the OSCE is one of the current approaches used in many countries, and helps develop ability of a clinician regarding his/her valid practice through proper communication with their patients and peers.” Hope and wishes of a lightened lamp Dean Dr U S Krishna Nayak,Profesor Mithra Hegde, Vice Principal of AB Shetty Dental College, Audiences in the seminar at A.B.Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences A trained and competent dental intern (Elaine Ang of Malysia) is demonstrating on how a medical emergency (case of severe anaphylaxis in dental practice) is managed to avoid a death in dental chair.
