As part of ORAL HYGIENE DAY celebrations, to bring about awareness regarding the maintenance of oral hygiene, the Department of Periodontics of A.B.Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences in association with Rotary Club Mangalore- Hill side organized an oral health awareness and check up camp at Dakshina Kannada Jilla Parishath Higher Primary School , Mullakad, Kavoor, Mangalore on 1st August 2016.
The objective of this camp was to examine the oral hygiene status, diagnose the dental problems faced by them and spread awareness about the importance of oral health.
The camp was initiated with dental awareness talk by our medico-social coordinator Mr. Venkatramana, educating students about oral hygiene practices, common dental ailments especially stressing on caries and periodontal diseases and measures to prevent them and also tooth brushing technique was demonstrated.
A total of 111 students including the teaching faculty, were screened for their oral hygiene status, periodontal condition, dental caries, malocclusion and for any soft tissue lesions. Following the check up, the required treatment was also explained and each student was given a report summary of the diagnosed problem and the recommended dental treatment plan. The students requiring treatment were referred to the Farangipete rural center and A B Shetty Memorial Institute Of Dental Sciences.The organizers appreciated the efforts put in by the dental team and were co-operative.
