Workshop on "Virtual laboratory" - NMAMIT

Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of N.M.A.M. Institute of Technology, Nitte has organized a Two Days Workshop on “Virtual Laboratory” on 1st and 2nd December 2016. The workshop was funded by TEQIP Phase II of the institute. The workshop aimed at bringing awareness amongst the faculty members about the “Virtual Laboratory”, an initiation by MHRD.,br> The inaugural function of the workshop was held on 1st December 2016. Dr.K.V.Gangadharan, Professor & Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering, NITK, Surathkal was the chief guest of the function. He has highlighted the need for interdisciplinary learning in engineering education. Dr. I. R. Mithanthaya, Vice Principal and the TEQIP Coordinator of the institute has detailed the scope of conducting such workshops and the way TEQIP supporting such initiations. The Principal of the institute, Dr. Niranjan N. Chiplunkar, in his presidential remarks has told that the concept of virtual laboratory is not new but the awareness about the same has just started and there are scopes to not only get benefited from Virtual labs but also to contribute to the same. Dr. Rekha Bhandarkar, the convener of the workshop has welcomed the gathering. Dr. K. S. Shivaprakasha has given the focus of the workshop. Sri. Mahaveer K. has introduced the chief guest. Sri. Durgaprasad has rendered vote of thanks. Smt. Srividya G. and Smt. Padmavathi N.B. have presented the invocation. Smt. Sunitha Lasrado has compered the programme. On this occasion, the nodal centre of the “Virtual Laboratory” of the institute was also inaugurated by Dr. K. V. Gangadharan.

The inaugural function was followed by the key note address by Dr. K. V. Gangadharan. Dr. Pruthviraj, Assistant Professor, Department of Applied Mechanics, NITK, Surathkal has given an insight into open sources and its applications. There was a visit to the Virtual Lab facility at NITK, Surathkal during the afternoon session of day 1. The participants were taken through the experimental setups at SOLVE lab of NITK. They were also showed the remotely controlled equipments supported in virtual labs. Dr. Mohit Tahiliani has given a brief introduction on the simulation of networks using virtual laboratory during his talk on day 2. There were two lab sessions wherein the participants were given hands on training to avail the access to virtual labs offered by various institutions. Staff from NITK have conducted the lab sessions. There was an informal valedictory where certificates were distributed to all participants. Sri. Sukesh Rao has compered the valedictory function. There were more than 40 participants actively participated in the workshop. There were 11 participants from external colleges from different parts of the state.
