Cons Endo Day - ABSMIDS

The Indian Association of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics has earmarked March 5th as Cons Endo Day throughout the India to raise awareness among the public regarding the speciality. To mark this event under the initiation and guidance of Prof. Dr. Mithra N. Hegde, Vice Principal, Dean of Dental Faculty, Head of the Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, A. B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences, Nitte University and patronage of Nitte University a week long progamme was arranged which culminated in an awareness programme for the public at Forum Mall on 5th March 2017.

On 5th March an awareness programme was organized for the general public at Forum Mall in Mangaluru. The programme was inaugurated by lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest Mr. Valentine D’Souza, Assistant Commissioner of Police of Central Crime Record Bureau, Mangaluru. He appreciated the endeavour and thanked the organizers for imparting knowledge regarding the speciality through such illuminating awareness programme. Prof. (Dr.) U. S. Krishna Nayak, Dean, ABSMIDS presided over the function.

“Oral health mirrors overall health and qualtity of life, natural is the best. The specialized field of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics is driven by the motto of increasing the life span of the teeth by preservation and restoration” - Prof. Dr. Mithra N. Hegde reiterated the importance of oral health and briefed the audience regarding the various treatment modalities.

The event recorded a footfall of over 800 people. Conservative Dentistry is the branch of dentistry concerned with the conservation of the tooth including prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Endodontics is a dental speciality concerned with the treatment of inflamed and damaged pulp and the surrounding tissues. Post graduate students displayed table clinics on various aspects of the speciality such as oral hygiene and disease preventive measures, hypersensitivity, remineralization and regeneration, caries and restorative modalities, aesthetic and cosmetic dentistry, root canal treatment, post and core.

Over 500 pamphlets regarding the importance of oral health and the speciality were distributed to the public. A quiz was conducted for the benefit of the public which was highly appreciated. A week long programme with E-poster competitions for the benefit of the undergraduate students based on the topic ‘Scope of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics’ was conducted in the college. The winners of the competitive events were awarded in the public event.
