HOLISTIC MANAGEMENTOF ALCOHOL USE DISORDERS – 2 DAYS WORKSHOP ON MARCH 29TH AND 30TH -2017 The Department of Psychiatry in association with Sree Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural Development Programme conducted 2-day workshop on ‘HOLISTIC MANAGEMENT OF ALCOHOL USE DISORDERS on 29th and 30th of March-2017 for the camp officers of Akhila Karnataka Jana Jagruthi Vedike. Dr. Satheesh Rao. , Prof. & Head, Dept. of Psychiatry, K.S.H.E.M.A. welcomed the audience. The workshop was inaugurated and presided by Prof. (Dr.) Satheesh Kumar Bhandary , Dean, K.S.H.E.M.A. Dr. Raveesh Tunga, Prof. & Head, Department of Psychiatry, A.J Institute of Medical sciences & Research Centre and Dr. P.V. Bhandary ,Director, A.V.Baliga Memorial Hospital, Udupi were the chief guests. Dr. P.V. Bhandary gave a talk on Illness Model of Alcoholism. The sessions were continued by our Psychiatrists - Dr. Nithin Ambekar – History Taking, Dr. Santosh Prabhu, Assessing physical comorbidities of alcohol and other substances, Dr. Shishir Kumar, Psychological and social problems associated with alcoholism, Dr. Shrinivasa Bhat, Pharmacological management of alcohol dependence and Prof.( Dr.) Sripad, Department of Anesthesia, KSHEMA, explained about the Basic Life Support. 1st day ended with case workup by our P.G’s Dr. Neela B Shenoy and Dr. Shambhavi Jaiman . The 2nd day sessions started with the topic ‘Motivation Enhancement Therapy’ by Dr. Santosh Prabhu and continued with the topics ‘Relapse and Prevention’ by Dr. Arun Bhat, ‘Prevention of Violence and Breakaway Training’ by Dr. Shishir Kumar, ‘Management of Alcohol Use Disorders including Psychological Management – Role Play’ by Dr. Shrinivasa Bhat and Presentation of Case Study and Summarization by Dr. Shrinivasa Bhat and Dr. Santosh Prabhu .Mrs. Suman Pinto, counsellor, Dept. of Psychiatry, K.S.H.E.M.A. was the compere for the workshop and ended the programme with vote of thanks.
