Hands on Science Workshop - MRSMEMHS

The school hosted staff development program ‘Hands- on Physics Workshop’ for the teachers of AICS, Dakshina Kannada on 30th June, 2017. 48 teachers from different ICSE and CBSE schools along with Mrs Neeta Kishore, Deputy Director of Academics availed the opportunity. Mr Praveen Kumar S, coordinator, Vijnana Vahini, H D Kote was the resource person. He facilitated teachers with enrichment of the topics - Pendulum, Motion and Optics by involving teachers in various experiments. In his address, he insisted teachers to be familiar with the experiments before they set the classroom activities.



Dental check up & dental awareness camp - MRP ITI, Thokur

A Dental checkup camp & Awareness CAMP was organized in association with ABSM Institute of Dental Science, Deralakatta, NSS wing & Rovers Wing on 29-06-2017 at Tapovana, Thokur. The programme is inaugurated by Sri Devaprasad Punaroor, President, Punaroor Prathisthana, Mulki

Dr. Deesha Kumari , Asst. Prof. ABSM Institute of Dental Science, Deralakatta, delivered related information on Dental Health Care. Training Officer Sri Raghuram Rao presided over the function. Miss Anjali Gadiyar & Miss Nikhitha recited Prayer, Udaya Kumar Office Superintendent delivered vote of thanks. Programme was compared by Sri Vishwanath Rao, JTO. Sri Venkatramana Ghatti, Sri Sanjeeva Devadiga, Retd. Office superintendent , Sri Hari H. NSS Officer, Sri Suresh S. Rover Leader & Doctors Team from ABSM Institute of Dental Science, Deralakatta, Teaching & Non Teaching Staff &Students were present. All the students are undergone dental check up.

Nitte university researchers selected by Japan Science and Technology to visit Miyazaki University - NUCSER

Three women researchers from Nitte University will be visiting the University of Miyazaki, Japan during the period 3rd – 12th July, 2017 under the program on “Women Empowerment for Science & Society – Role of Japan support system to encourage women researchers”. This is part of the effort by Japan Science and Technology Agency to promote Scientific and Cultural exchange and is entirely funded under the framework of Japan-Asia Youth Exchange Program in Science (SAKURA SCIENCE PROGRAM), which aims at enhancing exchange of the youths between Asian countries and Japan. Nitte University has bagged this prestigious SAKURA Exchange Program for the third consecutive year based on the project proposal submitted by Dr. Radha Madhyastha, faculty of Medicine and Physiology, University of Miyazaki, Japan for continued collaboration with Nitte University. Ms. Sharmila Poonacha is working under the guidance of Prof. Satheesh Bhandary, Dean K.S. Hegde Medical Academy. Ms. Rajeshwari is being guided for PhD by Dr. Krishna Kumar, NUCSER and Ms. Juliet has completed her research with Prof. Indrani Karunasagar, Director, Nitte University Centre for Science Education and Research. It is expected that the researchers will benefit from the visit through discussions with other scientists in Miyazaki University.

Freshers day celebration - NSAM PUC BLORE

24 June 2017 was a memorable day in the life of every I PU student at Dr NSAM PU college. The day was filled with excitement, joy, music and laughter. The program started with a prayer and lighting of the ceremonial lamp followed by the welcome address. Students of I PU were formally welcomed by senior student Navisha. The chief guest for the day was Prof. Ranganath Shetty, Dean, NMIT. He addressed the gathering on the importance of discipline and positive attitude and also assured all the young minds that they can continue their higher education in one among 36+ institutions under NET after their completion of PUC. Dr. Meera Krishnappa, Special Officer, NMIT, and Dr. Shanthi Iyer , Principal, FGC addressed the gathering and wished all students good luck in their new journey at Dr NSAM PUC. Thereafter, there were several cultural events. Dhanushree and Rohit Rai were crowned the title of Ms and Mr Fresher. The program concluded with the vote of thanks by senior student Balabheema and by a sumptuous lunch.

Five Day Workshops on Photography, Video Editing and Radio Jockeying- NICO

Mangaluru: Nitte Institute of Communication’s (NICO) five day workshops started promisingly on the 27th of June at Paneer Campus. The three workshops are aimed at beginners and intermediates alike, and are going to teach participants about photography, video editing, and radio jockeying (RJ). The first ever NICO summer workshop has seen participants from Bengaluru, Mysore, Kochi, Kundapur, and Mangaluru. More than thirty participants have registered for a five day session that are meant to lay a basic foundation in each of the separate streams. The sessions were inaugurated on the 27th July by Dr. U S Krishna Nayak, Dean of the A B Shetty Institute of Dental Sciences, with a lighting of the lamp. Dr. Nayak said he was happy to see a young institution like NICO showing so much promise and that he was envious of all the young participants at the workshop who were getting to learn about the exciting new developments in the media world. The photography workshop is being conducted by Prof. Raviraj, Head – Nitte Institute of Communication, the video editing workshop by Rahul Ganesh, filmmaker and faculty at NICO, while the RJ workshop is being conducted by Wilma Serrao, Asst. Professor at NICO.

Placement cell of NUINS organized a campus interview for the final year out going students of B. Sc (N) on 27-06-17 at Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences. Dr. Prof. Fatima D’ Silva, Principal College of Nursing and Ms. Gincy Joseph placement officer NUINS welcomed the representatives of Max health care. Ms. Devanshi Parashar, H R manager of Max health care briefed about Max health care hospitals, service rules, pay scales, selection etc. Mr. Eldhose the Nurse educator cum Trainer interviewed 44 students and 33 of them got selected. The campus interview process was completed with brief discussion with the placement officer and Principal regarding students performance, letter of intent and joining dates.

International Yoga Day - NSAM PU, Bengaluru

International Yoga Day was celebrated at Dr. NSAM PU College on 21-06-2017. I PUC Commerce students, Mohan and Niteesh demonstrated a few yoga asanas and Divya of II PUC Commerce shared a few thoughts on the importance of Yoga in our life. Further, II PUC students along with a couple of faculties joined NMIT Yoga session, where we had an hour of yoga practice session.

Report of camp conducted at Govt. Primary school, Beluvai on 25.06.2017 - ABSMIDS

The Department of Public Health Dentistry, AB Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences, conducted a free dental treatment camp at Govt. Primary School, Beluvai, Moodbidri on 25.06.2017. The team was headed by Dr. Shilpa. After the inaugural function, about 63 patients were examined. Out of these, 18 had undergone oral prophylaxis, 14 had undergone extractions and 12 had undergone restorations, 11 patients were referred to the nearby rural satellite center and the college.






Ramzan Celebrations - MRSMEMHS

Eid the festival that upholds the spirit of brotherhood and love was celebrated on June 28, 2017. Students recited Quran, performed dance, sang songs, recitation in Arabic was translated into English for the understanding of others. Speaking on the occasion said Principal, Mrs Sreelatha Rao, the significance of celebration was to inculcate a sense of oneness among children. She said such events would help students promote peace and harmony. Sweets were distributed.

Kite Design Workshop - NIA

NIA teamed up with the international kite festival held on the 16th and 17th of January 2016 at Panambur beach. It was hosted by Rotary clubs of the Mangalore region, and ‘Team Mangalore’, a hobby group of kite-flyers. NIA utilized the immense capacity of professional kite flyers from around the world to mentor its first year students of architecture on kite design and its technicalities of lift and drag at the beach. Two international groups (a) U.K. group led by Bob, and (b) Australian group led by Michael Alvares of Kite Kinetics conducted workshops on kite making and flying for the students at the NIA school premises.

‘PATANG’, a kite flying competition, organised by Team Blue and Souhardha Yuvaka Mandala, Mangalore was held on the 21st of February, at Someshwar beach. Having exposure to an exclusive workshop working with kites, the students of second semester B.Arch. of NIA took advantage of the skill learned and participated in this open competition. They diligently designed various kinds of kites and came up with exceptional designs. A unique combination of delta and box-kite designed by students of NIA won the first prize at this competition.

Hand loom Weaving - NIA

On first entering the handloom room, the students saw a lot of big and complicated machines, which at first intimidated them. But within 30 minutes of help and orientation, they realized that the whole process of weaving was a piece of cake. It was not only easy but also very fun to do. During the process of weaving the instruments produced a catchy music which was also quite interesting to listen to. There were 4 different machines involved in the entire process which made sure that all the students were busy at different cycles of the process. All in all, the entire handloom and weaving process was very enjoyable. They returned back not only with brand new towels and lungis but also with a new experience.


Carpentry - NIA

In just two weeks from when college started, the perspective of the architectural program was widened, not only in theory and drawings but also in practical work. Amongst them a group was selected for Carpentry at Pilikula. Students learnt how to use all the machines on just the first day. They started with a memento in the name of the college, NIA, using the carpentry skills they were taught. But that was just a small step of the process. They then proceeded by making brick moulds for Building Construction and Material class, and a stool to enhance their exploration to joints associated with furnitureAll in all, the weekends spent at the Pilikula workshop were fruitful as well as fun filled.





Cane Workshop - NIA

When the group of students first entered the Pilikula Cane and Bamboo weaving centre, they were amazed to see the huge products of cane and bamboo that had been made there. In the beginning they were briefed about the history of cane, the different types and where they’re found. They went in search of cane in the forest trying to comprehend the various properties associated with cane. Then they proceeded with cleaning the cane in the workshop and started designing the first product; a magazine basket. They worked with fire to twist and turn the cane and then polish the products .Then they nailed some cane to a rocking chair, made few lamp shades, wall hangings, a door hanging, an apple chair, and also did mat weaving and basket weaving. They also went to the bamboo forest to explore some kinds of bamboo. They learnt, enjoyed and experienced a lot many things over there.


The Republic day - NIA

The Republic day programme started off with a soulful prayer sung by the students of Mass Communication at 8:30 in the morning. Students of all the different institutes gathered near the Kshema Auditorium to witness the programme. Soon after the prayer the tri-coloured flag was hoisted by the chief guest along with the help of the deans of other Nitte institutions. A spectacular dance was put up by the students of NIA which also included on the spot paintings which truly conveyed the message of patriotism. The short programme concluded by another dance performance by the dental students.


The Debutants’ day - NIA

The Debutants’ day for the first year students of the B.Arch programme was held on 19 October, 2015. Chief guest Dr. M.S. Moodithaya, Registrar of Nitte University inaugurated the very first issue of the NIA newsletter, titled ‘Estrade’. He also introduced and the entitled the Student Council members with a badge and an honour of responsibilities. Director of NIA, Prof. Vinod Aranha with faculty members, Prof. Raviraj (H.O.D. of NICO) and other members of NICO faculty were present on this occasion. The students of the Mass Communication department eagerly joined to celebrate this occasion and participated alongside in the events. The hour-long formal session of the program started at 3:00 P.M. followed by a tea break. After a scrumptious snack, the function translated into an informal affair with some very entertaining performances by the students. A trail of fun games and activity was arranged and organized by the students of NIA. The students put up a good and successful show.



Barbeque evening - NIA

After the semester long of hardworking, the students organized a get together inviting the faculties to be a part of the soiree. They organized the barbeque and supplementary food arrangements where everything was cooked by the students of NIA. The evening led forward to students portraying their talents in singing, dancing and playing instruments.



Inauguration of the school cabinet - 2017-18 - NSAMSSS, Nitte

The school cabinet members were invested with sashes, badges and school flag. The school prefects took an oath after which a group of students congratulated them with a song. The Principal addressed the gathering and made them aware of their duties and responsibilities. Later it was concluded with a vote of thanks and anthem.

Nitte University bags consultancy contract from Odisha Government - NUCSER

The Government of Odisha has awarded a consultancy contract of rupees One Crore to Nitte University to prepare a road map and action plan to increase fishery exports tenfold in five years. Nitte University was selected from among several national and international bidders for this contract. The Memorandum of Agreement was signed on 20th June, 2017 in the Secretariat of the Ministry of Fisheries and Animal Resource Development, Government of Odisha.

Dr. Damodar Rout, Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture, Farmers Empowerment, Fisheries & Animal Resource Development and Public Enterprises, Government of Odisha, presided over the function on the exchange of Memorandum of Agreement ( MoA) between Nitte University and Government of Odisha. Dr. Bijay Upadhyaya, Director of Fisheries, Odisha and Dr. Iddya Karunasagar, Senior Director, International Relations, Nitte University signed and exchanged the MoA in the august presence of Dr. Damodar Rout, Hon’ble Minister of Fisheries, Mr. Vishal Gagan , Commissioner of Fisheries, Odisha, and Prof. Dr. Ramananda Shetty, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Nitte Univerisity.

Dr. Iddya Karunasagar made a presentation explaining the work plan, methodology emphasizing on the overarching principles of sustainability, compliance with international requirements of quality and safety, following guidelines and standards set by International Organisations like Codex Alimentarius Commission ( CAC), Food and Agriculture Organization( FAO) , World health organization (WHO) and World Animal Health Organisation (OIE).

The Minister explained that Odisha has a glorious history and was in the forefront of all aspects of life before colonial rule. He mentioned on the state’s rich aquatic resources and the potential to develop seafood industry. However, he informed that there are technological gaps, which need to be addressed. He welcomed the expertise coming from the Team constituted by Nitte University and agreed that meeting international standards of sustainability, quality and safety is of paramount importance.

Nitte University will carry out this work involving an international team of highly experienced professionals led by Dr. Iddya Karunasagar, who retired recently from the FAO of United Nations and currently working as Senior Director, International Relations, Nitte University. Other team members include Mr. Vishnu Bhat, retired Fisheries Development Commissioner, Govt. of India, Dr. Srijit Mishra, Director of Nabakrushna Choudhury Center for Development Studies, Bhubaneswar, Mr. Gangesh Varma, Director of Varma Ocean Products Pvt. Ltd and Dr. Ramachandra Bhatta, Emeritus Professor of Indian Council of Agricultural Research( ICAR). The team will also involve other experts from FAO and other international organisations. The Nitte University team will carry out study involving stakeholders like aquaculture producers, input suppliers like feed producers and suppliers, seafood processors and exporters. The action plan and road map to be developed by Nitte University will be based on systematic study of the resources, infrastructure, technical skills required to increase productivity and value addition following international guidelines for sustainability, traceability, product safety and quality.

International Day of Yoga 2017 - NMAMIT

International Day of Yoga is celebrated annually on 21st June since its inception in 2015. In this regard, NMAMIT in association with NSS Unit celebrated International Day of Yoga (IDY 2017) in the Institute on 21st June 2017.

The dignitaries on stage inaugurated the International Day of Yoga (IDY 2017) by lighting the lamp. Dr.Niranjan N Chiplunkar, Principal, NMAMIT spoke on the importance of Yoga on our health. Dr. Sudesh Bekal, Dean R&D was also present during the occassion.

Dr.Janardhan Nayak, Chief NSS Officer welcomed the gathering. Mr.Sandeep Hegde, Assistant NSS Officer delivered vote of thanks.

Trained Yoga Instructors of the Institute have commenced the training classes to the staffs & students and they were requested to make full use of their expertise. Yoga Classes are being held regularly in the Boys Hostel block on a daily basis from 6 AM to the students residing in hostels.

International Yoga Day was observed on 21 June 21, 2017 by all the students, staff and parents with great zeal. Mr Jayamuddu Shetty, a yoga trainer, demonstrated different asanas and Mrs Savitha demonstrated meditation . PTA office bearers were present.
