CME on "INFERTILITY & RECURRENT PREGNANCY LOSS: NEW PERSPECTIVES 2018 - KSHEMA

The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology organized a CME on "INFERTILITY & RECURRENT PREGNANCY LOSS: NEW PERSPECTIVES 2018" on 17th February, 2018 at K.S Hegde Hospital Deralakatte, Mangaluru.

Prof. Dr. M Shantharam Shetty, Pro-Chancellor, Nitte (Deemed-to-be University) was the Chief Guest and Prof. Dr. Satheesh Kumar Bhandary B, the Guest of Honour. The program was presided over by Dr. P.S Prakash, Dean, KSHEMA.

Guest speakers for the CME were Dr. Asha Reddy, Consultant, Reproductive Endocrinology, Fertility & Genetics, Bhoomi IVF Centre, Bengaluru and Dr. Pratap Kumar, Professor & Head, Manipal Assisted Reproduction Centre (MARC), Kasturba Medical College, Manipal. Dr. Prasanna Kumar Shetty, Professor, Dept. of OBG, KSHEMA welcomed the gathering. Dr. Aparna Rajesh, Additional Professor, Dept. of OBG, KSHEMA delivered the Vote of thanks.

The KSHEMA boys Fut Sal team won the runners-up trophy

The KSHEMA boys Fut Sal team won the runners-up trophy and a cash prize of Rs 5000 in Adrenaline 2018 an inter collegiate sports tournament organized by Father Muller Medical College Mangaluru between 21st and 23rd February 2018.

Postgraduate teaching program and 14th OSCE workshop in Otorhinolaryngology - Head & Neck surgery - KSHEMA

The Department of ENT, K S Hegde Medical Academy, Derlakatte, Mangaluru conducted a postgraduate teaching program and 14th OSCE workshop in Otorhinolaryngology - Head & Neck surgery on 6th February, 2018. More than 100 post graduate students participated in the workshop from different parts of India. The Chief Guest of the program, Prof. Dr. M Shantharam Shetty, Pro-Chancellor, Nitte (Deemed-to-be University) spoke of the need for Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) in the assessment of post graduate programs.

Prof. Dr. Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Vice-Chancellor, Nitte (Deemed-to-be University) presided over the function. He spoke of the advantages and difficulties in conducting the OSCE workshop.Prof. Dr. P.S Prakash Dean, KSHEMA was also present. Dr. Rajeshwary A, Prof & Head, Dept. of ENT, KSHEMA delivered the welcome address. Dr. Muralidharan Nampoothiri from Calicut, Dr. Azim from Kolar, Dr. Arun Alexander,JIPMER Pondicherry, Dr. Mohan Appaji,Dr. Gangadhar Somayaji, Dr. Suja Sreedharan, Dr. Balakrishna, Dr. Kailesh Pujary and Dr. P P Devan, were the resource persons for the Workshop.

One-day ToT program - KSHEMA

The Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology conducted a one-day ToT program on 6th February, 2018 on the "Role of Teachers in Curbing Drug Menace". Over 200 teachers from all over the district participated in the program.

The day began with a small skit by students, followed by the inaugural. Dr. P S Prakash, Dean, KSHEMA delivered the welcome address. Mr. Suresh T R, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Mangaluru was the Chief Guest and Mr. B R Ravikanthe Gowda, IPS, Superintendent of Police was the Guest of Honour. Prof. Dr. M Shantharam Shetty, Pro-Chancellor, Nitte (Deemed to be University) presided over the function.

Of the four speakers, DCP Mrs. Uma Prashanth spoke of the law enforcing aspects of drug abuse; Dr. Mahabalesh Shetty, Professor & HoD, Forensic Medicine spoke on the epidemiological aspects; Dr. Santosh Prabhu, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Psychiatry highlighted the psychiatric aspects of drug abuse and Dr. Nanjesh Kumar, Assoc.Professor, Dept. of Community Medicine spoke of the socio psychological management of students under the influence of drugs.  

This was followed by a panel discussion wherein many relevant issues were raised and discussed. The program was coordinated by Dr. Suraj Shetty, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Forensic Medicine.

Upcoming event: Student Research Competition - NUCSER

As a part of the National Science Day celebrations, the Directorate of Research, Nitte (Deemed-to-be University) is organising a Student Research Competition in the Examination Hall, KSHEMA on 26th February, 2018 between 10.00 am to 2.00 pm. All faculty are requested to go through the posters and provide encouragement to young researchers to participate in the event.

We also invite you to the National Science Day Lecture by Padma Bhushan Dr. Nirmal Kumar Ganguly, former Director General of Indian Council of Medical Research at Vimshathi Bhavan, ABSMIDS on 28th February at 11.00 AM. Dr. Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Vice Chancellor, Nitte University will preside over the function.

‘Incridea-2018’ draws huge crowds and is a huge success - NMAMIT

NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte celebrated its Annual Day & National level inter-collegiate Techno-Cultural annual fest ‘Incridea-2018’, amidst great enthusiasm from students and participants from different parts of India. The four-day event held between the 14th and 17th of February brought together a large number of students from several top colleges who participated in a wide range of events: from technical events to cultural events. The campus was filled with infectious energy as students displayed a good mix of companionship and a competitive spirit that added to the electrifying atmosphere of the fest.

Incridea is the National level techno-cultural fest of NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte. It is a celebration of all forms of technical and cultural talents.

The Annual day of NMAM Institute of technology was inaugurated by Sri. H Kumar, Managing Director of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) and the annual Fest Incridea-2018 was inaugurated in the campus by Dr.M Mohan Alva, Chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation, Moodabidri on 14th of February at 9.30 a.m. The function was presided over by Sri N.Vinaya Hegde, President, Nitte Education Trust and Chancellor, Nitte University.

During this Fest, evenings were reserved for brilliant cultural events, including Fashion Show event held on Day 1. The major attraction on the 2nd day included a standup comedy show from Mr.Sahil Shah, who is one of the founding members of East India Comedy. A classic performance by the Worldclass speed painting artist Mr.Vilas Nayak for 45 minutes was organised during the 2nd half of the entertainment program. The DJ Night on the 3rd day indeed was a big hit as it gave students from various colleges the chance to let their hair down and mingle with each other. 4th Day entertainment program was occupied with variety performances by the students of various departments of Engineering.

Mr.Vaibhav Dsouza, student coordinator congratulated the winners and thanked everyone for participating & helping in organising the fest with such zeal. Nitte Institute of Communication bagged overall championship and St.Joseph College of Engineering, Mangalore received the runnerup trophy of Incridea 2018.

Martyr's Day Celebration

Martyr's day was celebrated on 30th January, 2018. The NSS Unit of Nitte (Deemed-to-be University) commemorated the great sacrifices of our soldiers to the nation. Col. Prem Kumar Shetty (Army), Commander Mahesh Nayak (Navy) and Sri. Srikanth Shetty (Air Force) were honoured for their contribution to the safe keeping of the nation. The Ex-servicemen working in the Nitte Group were also honoured on this occasion.

Dr. Sumalatha R Shetty, NSS Co-ordinator welcomed the guests. The Guest of Honour, Dr. M. Shantharam Shetty, Pro-Chancellor, Nitte (Deemed-to-be University) opined that martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the nation, without distinction of caste, community and creed should be an inspiration to the youth to join the defence services. Dr. Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Vice Chancellor presided over the function. Workshop on “Research based pedagogical tools” - NUCSER

Nitte university centre for science education & research organises workshop on “research based pedagogical tools” 

Science education should empower students with the problem-solving skills that form a part of scientific methodology such as meticulous observation, analytical abilities, critical thinking and reasoning. A 3 day Pedagogy workshop on “Research Based Pedagogical Tools” was conducted by the Nitte University Centre for Science Education & Research from 14th to 16th February, 2018. The workshop sponsored by the Department of Science & Technology, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Newton Bhabha Fund, India Bioscience and coordinated by the Indian Institute of Science Education & Research, Pune brought together a highly motivated group of 50 teachers and researchers from over 25 colleges. The welcome address was delivered by Prof. Indrani Karunasagar, Director (R&D). Prof. (Dr.) Smitha Hegde, the local co-ordinator introduced the Chief guest, Rev. Fr. Dr. Leo D’Souza, former Rector and Director of the Biotechnology Lab, St. Aloysius College who delivered the inaugural address. The Guest of honour, Dr. Apurva Barve, Co-ordinator of the Centre of Excellence in Science & Mathematics Education, IISER, Pune detailed the theme of the workshop. The Registrar, Dr. Alka Kulkarni considered it fortuitous for Nitte to be chosen by IISER to conduct this valuable workshop. The President of the function, Prof. Dr. Satheesh Kumar Bhandary was appreciative of the Government agencies such as DBT, DST, Newton Bhabha Fund and India Bioscience for fostering the cause of pedagogy through innovative practices. The resource experts included the Chief trainer Dr. Tulasi, Government College for Women, Guntur; Dr. Jimmy Sebastian, Sacred Heart College, Kochi; Dr. Robinson T, Madras Christian College; Dr. Mallika Pathak, Miranda House, Delhi and Dr. Lyned D. Lasrado, St. Aloysius College, Mangalore. The Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Smitha Hegde.

About the film:
Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum (2017) is a Malayalam drama comedy movie, directed by Dileesh Pothen. A newly married couple, Prasad and Sreeja are travelling in a bus when a thief tries to steal the wife’s gold chain. In the chaos that ensues, the couple end up in the police station along with the thief. Through the film's journey, the audience is caught in a dilemma as the lines between culprit and victim blur.

One day ToT program on ‘Role of teachers in curbing drug menace’ - KSHEMA

The Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology conducted a one day ToT program on 6th February, 2018 on ‘Role of teachers in curbing drug menace’. More than 200 Pre University college teachers from all over DK district participated in the program.

The program began with a small skit on drug abuse by the students, followed by a formal inauguration. The welcome speech was delivered by Dr. P.S Prakash, Dean, KSHEMA. Mr. Suresh T.R, IPS Commissioner of Police, Mangaluru was the Chief guest and Mr. B.R Ravikanthe Gowda, IPS, Superintendent of Police was the Guest of honour. Prof. Dr. Shantaram Shetty, Pro-Chancellor, Nitte Deemed to be University, presided over the function. The four speakers; DCP Mrs. Uma Prashanth mainly dealt with the law enforcing aspects of drug abuse, Dr. Mahabalesh Shetty, Professor & Head, Dept. of Forensic Medicine spoke on the epidemiological aspects of the menace of drugs; Dr. Santosh Prabhu, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Psychiatry highlighted the psychiatric aspects of drug abuse and Dr. Nanjesh Kumar, Assoc. Professor, Dept. of Community Medicine dealt on the socio psychological management of students with drug abuse.

This was followed by a panel discussion wherein many relevant issues were raised and discussed. The program was co-ordinated by Dr. Suraj Shetty, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Forensic Medicine.

The feedback given by the participants at the end of the program was positive and overwhelming. The participants also visited and appreciated the Forensic Medicine Museum.

This CME is intended to address important topics including dilemmas in managing early pregnancy complications, anatomical abnormalities in RPL, poor responders in IVF and tailoring ovulation induction in a stepwise manner, and directed at all gynaecologists who practice infertility.
