Martyr's day was celebrated on 30th January, 2018. The NSS Unit of Nitte (Deemed-to-be University) commemorated the great sacrifices of our soldiers to the nation. Col. Prem Kumar Shetty (Army), Commander Mahesh Nayak (Navy) and Sri. Srikanth Shetty (Air Force) were honoured for their contribution to the safe keeping of the nation. The Ex-servicemen working in the Nitte Group were also honoured on this occasion.
Dr. Sumalatha R Shetty, NSS Co-ordinator welcomed the guests. The Guest of Honour, Dr. M. Shantharam Shetty, Pro-Chancellor, Nitte (Deemed-to-be University) opined that martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the nation, without distinction of caste, community and creed should be an inspiration to the youth to join the defence services. Dr. Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Vice Chancellor presided over the function. Prof. (Dr.) Alka Kulkarni, Registrar; Dr. Indrani Karunasagar, Director, Research & Development; Prof. (Dr.) P S Prakash, Dean, KSHEMA; Dr. Jayaprakash Shetty, Vice Dean, KSHEMA; Dr. Fatima D’Silva, Principal, NUINS; Dr. C S Shastry, Principal, NGSMIPS; Major Dr. Shivakumar Hiremath, Medical Superintendent; Col. Subiah, Asst. Director (Student Affairs) and Air Commodore S K Pai, Asst. Director (Estate management) were present on the occasion along with the Program Officers. Mr. Krishna Kumar, Program Officer, NUCSER proposed the Vote of thanks. Ms. Nikitha, Program Officer (NIA) was the MC for the program.
The felicitated guests, Col. Prem Kumar Shetty, Cdr. Mahesh Nayak and Sri. Srikanth Shetty spoke about their experiences while in service and expressed their gratitude for being part of the event. They also informed the students of the opportunities available in different fields of Defence Services.
