The inaugural function of the Post Graduate Diploma (Banking & Finance) for prospective officers of Canara Bank was held at Canara Nitte School of Banking (CNSB), Mangalore on 25th June 2018 in the presence of elite dignitaries, esteemed guests, students and other invitees.
The proceedings of the event commenced with a prayer. Dr. Sudhir M., Dean of CNSB, extended a warm welcome to Sri. K. Virupaksha, General Manager (HR), Canara Bank, Head Office, Bangalore, Sri. N. Lakshmi Narayan, General Manager - Circle office, Canara Bank, Mangalore. He also welcomed Dr. M. S. Moodithaya, Pro Vice Chancellor, Nitte University, Dr. N. K. Thingalaya, former CMD of Syndicate Bank, guests, officials from Canara Bank, faculty members, and support staff of both the institutions. Dr. Sudhir M termed the association of NEIPL and Canara Bank, two prime institutional brands, as a very significant milestone which intends to develop officers for the Bank with strong conceptual, technical, domain and attitudinal skill sets. This was followed by the lighting of the traditional lamp and offering floral tributes to the founders Justice K. S. Hegde of Nitte & Sri Ammembal Subba Rao Pai of Canara Bank.
Sri Virupaksha in his inaugural address highlighted the significance of Dakshina Kannada District in the banking canvas of the country. He complimented the students for choosing Canara Bank for their Banking career. He also informed the great traditions, ethos and legacy of Canara Bank. He briefed the students on the structure, social commitments, founding principles, business potential and significance of Canara Bank in the present day.
Dr. N.K Thingalaya, the Guest of Honour congratulated the students and advised them to make best use of the course. He stressed on the dual cornerstones of integrity and responsibility in banking career. He also advised them to help in generating greater welfare to the society and the Bank.
Dr. Moodithaya in his Presidential address said that present days are both exciting and challenging for the banking industry. The objective of the course is to make the officers “skill ready” to take up their assignments when they pass out. He advised the participants to be ‘self starters’ and learn the nuances of banking through the course to emerge as effective business resources managing officers.
Sri Lakshmi Narayan, General Manager, proposed the vote of thanks to the dignitaries and all those involved in this collective endeavor. He wished that the partnership between the two premier and valued institutions - Nitte and Canara Bank would produce officers who would contribute 100% from the day of their initiation to the Bank. He reiterated that in the final analysis only hard work, integrity, and contribution to the growth of the Bank determines the career graph of the officers in the Bank. He advised the candidates to take up the responsibility wholeheartedly and discharge their duties to the Bank, society and parents sincerely. He offered all support for the successful completion of the course.
During the function, all the speakers wished the candidates great career and life ahead. The program was compeered by Ms. Sona Rai and attended by all the faculty members and staff of the institutions. Many senior officers from local branches, offices of Canara Bank also graced the occasion.
