Visit of Sri Rakesh Sharma, MD & CEO of Canara Bank - NEIPL

On 12th July 2018, the students of CNSB had the privilege of meeting Sri Rakesh Sharma, MD & CEO of Canara Bank. He was accompanied by Sri Lakshmi Narayan, General Manager, Canara Bank, Circle Office, Mangalore. The visiting dignitaries were warmly received by Dr. Sudhir M, Dean, CNSB. A formal interactive session was arranged in the auditorium after the prayer.

Sri Rakesh Sharma started the interaction by congratulating the students who have been selected after undergoing competitive processes. He also opined that being the first batch of its kind, the students have great responsibility to make the newly introduced model of recruitment truly successful and effective. He said that one year course would be a good investment for shaping the banking career and shall enable the students to deliver results from the word go. He also said that Canara Bank is a unique organization with excellent HR policies. It’s working culture, reputation and compliance culture is considered as a benchmark in the industry. As the Bank is poised to become number one nationalized Bank in the country in the near future, the rightly enabled employees can expect great career in the Bank.

Sri Sharma also advised the students to be proud of their association with the Bank and make best use of the opportunities provided by the Bank. Success in career is the result of efforts, contribution and performance. He also had some philosophical advice to the students in the context of his own career journey. In life one cannot predict events, but it should not prevent one from trying for the best. “Aspire, aim high and keep abreast of the economic, financial, banking developments’”, he suggested.

“Not withstanding one’s intellectual, academic excellence, for succeeding in career, right attitude is imperative. We should be part of the solution rather than the part of the problem. Plan and execute - is the way to succeed. Learning, unlearning, relearning should be on an ongoing basis. Transparency and integrity should be part of our work culture”, said Sri Sharma to the students. He also said that Bank job is no more a desk job. It is relationship and market oriented.

Sri Divakar Shetty, DGM and Sri Thakur Naik, AGM, from Canara Bank, Circle Office, Mangalore also graced the function. The program concluded with vote of thanks proposed by Sri M. S. Rao.
