9 of our students participated in the State Level English Spell Bee competition held at Bangalore. Out of these, 5 will represent the school at the NATIONAL LEVEL to be held at Coimbatore shortly.

Inter Collegiate Shuttle Badminton Tournament - NUINS

Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences organized an Inter Collegiate Shuttle Badminton Tournament on 24th October 2018 at the Mangalore University Indoor Stadium, Konaje. Students from the constituent colleges of Nitte (Deemed to be University) participated in the tournament. The first place in the women’s section was bagged by KSHEMA and the second place by Nitte Institute of Architecture. In the Men’s section, Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences bagged the first place and the second place was bagged by KSHEMA. The individual prize for the Best player (women’s section) was bagged by Tia Ann of KSHEMA, and (Men’s Section) by Alwin Bijoy of Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences.

The winners were felicitated with Trophies, Medals and Certificates. Mr. Mallikarjun, Physical Education Director, Mangalore University, Konaje; Mr. Karunakar Shetty, Physical Education Director, KSHEMA and Ms. Bhagya, Physical Education Director, Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences distributed the prizes to the winners.






Elocution and drawing competition - NUCSER

Elocution and drawing competition was held at school premise with themes relating to cleanliness of the village. Their drawings and enunciation reflected the Swachh Bharat values instilled from the school education provided.


School education program was conducted at Sasihitlu Government School - NUCSER

School education program was conducted at Sasihitlu Government School, for the students of 1st to 7th grade under the supervision of the school staff. Team members used modern techniques of teaching (Audio/visual clips and PowerPoint presentations) to educate the school students regarding plastic waste management, sanitation, rainwater harvesting and composting.

Street play entitled “Plastic Bombe” - NUCSER

Street play entitled “Plastic Bombe” was directed and played. This play enacted explained the consequences of improper waste disposal methods currently adopted in the village. Scenes of the play depicted adverse effects of the current scenario in the near future. An imaginary polluted environment in 2050 was showcased with masks. Following the play, the importance of keeping our surroundings clean and being eco-friendly was explained.


Rashtriya Ekta Diwas - MRSMEMHS

Rashtriya Ekta Diwas was celebrated on 31st October 2018 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in the school. Pledge was administered in the morning assembly. All the students enthusiastically participated in the Run for Unity keeping the fitness and health condition of students in mind.

Urban Farming and Hydroponics - NIA

Nitte Institute of Architecture observed Environment Week from June 4th- June 9th , 2018. A 6 –day Workshop on Urban farming and Hydroponics was conducted as a part of the Summer School Programme of Nitte Institute of Architecture. The program was inaugurated by Dr. Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, VC of Nitte – Deemed to be University. Blany D’Souza and Dr. Smitha Hegde along with the faculties of Architecture conducted a successful hands-on Workshop which resulted in a igniting young minds towards Environment protection and Sustaining the nature. Urban farming, ,Terrace gardens, Urban agriculture, Hydroponics are some of the terminologies that describe a system which shows a beautiful hope to humanity, towards making their cities greener and self-sustaining. This workshop majorly dealt with understanding these systems.

Blany D’Souza is a passionate organic farmer. He is been in this field for last 25yrs and also got awarded with multiple prestigious awards. Dr Smita Hegde is an expert in plant Molecular biology, plant tissue culture, plant ecology Bioremediation and plant biotechnology.

Students were introduced with the concepts of terrace garden through site visits followed by an explanation of the various kinds of plants that he was growing on his terrace like creepers, vegetables, fruits and medicinal plants.

Students were educated with different methods of grafting like bud grafting, split grafting, stem end grafting and root grafting with hands-on exercises.

Sessions were taken to teach different plant growth regulators followed with a planting session in the Institute’s backyard. 40 different fruiting plants like lime, mango, starfruit, orange, sweet lime, guava, chickoo, pomegranate etc. were planted by the students.

Sessions were conducted to teach how to set up kitchen garden in the backyard. Students with the help of Blany D’Souza set up three types of sloping kitchen garden: horizontal, vertical and low-level gardens.

Students were introduced with the concept of Hydroponics where plants are grown in a nutrient solution. Students set up an indoor Hydroponic garden in the college with the guidance of Dr Smitha Hegde.

A Report on the Dental Health Awareness talk given on 25th Oct 2018 for Rotary Club, Nitte

A Dental Health Awareness talk was given by Staff in-charge of Justice K S Hegde Dental Clinic, Nitte Dr Chethana Shashikanth to create dental health awareness among members of Rotary Club, Nitte, on 25th Oct 2018 at 6.30 pm. A PowerPoint presentation covering topics like structure of teeth, dental problems, oral hygiene, myths about dental disease/treatment etc. was used for the program. The audience included people from all age group who were part of rotary family meet. The venue was NMAMIT Nitte.





NSS special camp - NUINS

The NSS unit of Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences organized a NSS special camp at D.K Zilla Panchayat Higher Primary School at Madoor from 11th to 17th October 2018. The camp was inaugurated by Dr. M. S Moodithaya , Pro Vice-Chancellor, Nitte (Deemed to be University). Addressing the students, he explained the importance of NSS and the responsibilities of the students and volunteers towards society. Sri Uday Kumar, President, Kotekar Pattana Panchayat was the Chief guest of the function. The valedictory program of the camp was held on 17th October at 10.30 am at Madoor School. Dr. Sathish Rao, Head, Dept. of Psychiatry, Justice K S Hegde Charitable Hospital was the chief guest. Mrs. Poornakala Y.K, PDO Kotekar Pattana Panchayat congratulated the students for their selfless work. Prof. Dr. Fatima D’Silva, Principal, Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences presided over the program. On this occasion, Prof. Sabitha Nayak, Vice Principal, NUINS, Dr. Sumalatha R Shetty, NSS Program Co-ordinator of Nitte University, Mr. Anil, Vice-President, Kotekar Pattana Panchyat, Mrs. Sheela Gatti, SDMC Vice-President, Mrs. Cleeta Pinto and Mrs Suchithra BS, NSS Program officers NUINS, were present. The camp saw active participation by 50 NSS volunteers and two teachers. Following activities were carried out during the camp:

  • Door to door awareness campaign on Swachhata :The student volunteers met with 1548 people from 385 families of Madoor village and educated the families about the importance of keeping their surroundings clean and green and also practicing healthy and hygienic habits. 
  • Shramadaan and cleaning: As an extension of the Govt. of India Swachhata Abhiyaan, the volunteers carried out cleaning service at the Madoor school campus, Anganwadi, roadside and bus stand at Madoor Junction. About 5 varieties of vegetable seeds (cucumber, pumpkin, ladies finger, brinjal and long beans) and about 15 flower plants were planted in the school garden and the school premise. 
  • Health awareness program: Health awareness talks on most relevant topics such as DM, Hypertension, Breast and cervical Cancer, Nutrition, healthy life style and Vector borne disease were delivered. 
  • DM, Hypertension screening camp: Screening camp for DM and Hypertension was organised. 51 people benefited from the camp. 10% had hypertension, 18% of them had GRBS more than 140. These people were referred to Justice K.S.Hegde Charitable Hospital for further treatment.
  • Anganwadi program: Anganwadi program on hygiene was organized. Nine students were present along with parents.

Free Dental Treatment Camp at Sathya Sai Hospital, Alike - ABSMIDS

The Department of Public Health Dentistry, A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences in association with the International College of Dentists conducted a free dental treatment camp at Sathya Sai Hospital, Alike on 22nd October 2018. The team was headed by Dr. Sahana Maben.

A total of 24 patients were screened during the camp : 3 patients underwent extraction; 6 patients - GIC restoration, 1 patient - ZOE restoration, 6 patients - Oral Prophylaxis, 3 patients were referred to Farangipete Centre, 2 patients were referred to ABSMIDS, 1 patient had suture removal, 1 patient had an abscess drained and 1 patient had a check-up.

Rushab Shanthi Bhat participated in the second National Level Martial Arts Taekwondo Championship held at Puneon 19th & 20th October 2018. He bagged the second place and has been selected for the International Taekwondo Championship to be held at South Korea shortly.

We congratulate Rushab and wish him all the very best.


Professional Managers Development Programme for MSMEs @ JKSHIM

Justice K.S.Hegde Institute of Management, Nitte in association with the Small Industries Development Bank of India is organizing a 8 week Professional Managers Development Program for MSMEs from 3rd October to 30th November 2018. The objective of the program is to develop a cadre of professional managers specifically trained to assist the SME owners in their multiple responsibilities. It also seeks to open up new avenues of productive employment for young graduates who are otherwise not professionally qualified. Thus the program serves the dual purpose of offering a second line of trained managers at affordable salary to MSME sectors and providing employment to those who are not professionally qualified.

B. Acharya, Hon’ble Governor of Nagaland. He was addressing at the award ceremony organized by Nitte  (Deemed to be University) on October 26th at the University Campus to honor Sri Ramkui Jeme from Assam and Sri Latsam Khimun from Arunachal Pradesh with the degree of Honoris Causa in recognition of their immense contribution towards socio-economic development, gender empowerment and right to education to girl child. He congratulated and thanked Nitte (Deemed to be University) for giving free education to the students of NE India and recognizing the achievers from the NE States.

Medical Camp - K S Hegde Hospital

A medical camp was organized at Padnur, Puttur Taluk on 14.10.2018 for the general public. Doctors from the Departments of General Medicine, Ophthalmology, Paediatrics, ENT and Orthopedics actively participated in the camp.
