Awareness walk on World diabetes day - K S Hegde Charitable Hospital

World Diabetes Day is observed on 14th of November every year across the globe. The Department of Nutrition & Dietetics, Justice K S Hegde Charitable Hospital and Department of Public Health, KSHEMA in association with the World Diabetes Foundation organized the Global Diabetes Walk on 14th November 2019 to create awareness and adopt a supportive lifestyle to control and prevent diabetes. The walk began from KSRP (Karnataka State Reserve Police) campus, Assaigoli at 6.15 am and ended at K S Hegde Medical Academy Auditorium at 7.30 am.

Sri N Vinaya Hegde, Chancellor, Nitte (Deemed to be University) flagged off the event. Police Commandant R. Janardhan, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof. M S Moodithaya, Medical Superintendent, Major (Dr) Shivakumar Hiremath accompanied him along with participants from different institutions and public from the surrounding areas.

Dr Ranjani Harish, Senior Scientist & Diabetes Educator MDRF Chennai; Dieticians Dr Prerana Hegde & Ms. Jane Mariya Albuquerque; KSRP Assistant Commandants Mr. Sharath Kumar, Mr. Hemakumar, Mr. Raju & Mr. Mahadevaswami were also present at the event.

Prior to the walk, participants underwent GRBS test free of cost. This was conducted by Justice K S Hegde Charitable Hospital to create awareness regarding diabetes.

At the end of the walk, an awareness talk on "Family and Diabetes" was imparted to the public by speaker Dr Rashmi Kundapur. The event was followed by a one-day Diabetes Workshop and Scientific Session.
