NitteDU among Top Universities in THE Impact Rankings

 


Nitte (Deemed to be University) is placed in the rank band of 100-200 among participating Universities from all over the world in three categories of the Impact Rankings 2021 released by Times Higher Education(THE) on 21st April 2021. With a Top 200 ranking in Good Health and Well Being, Gender Equality and Clean Water and Sanitation, Nitte University was overall among the Top 400-600 Institutions globally in 2021.

These rankings assess Universities for their social impact based on the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by all members states of the United Nations Organization (UNO) in 2015. These goals provide a framework to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings uses this unique framework for recognizing the efforts of Universities towards achieving these goals. The rankings assess the efforts of Universities towards sustainable development through teaching, research, outreach, and partnerships in 17 different domains. The Times Higher Education group is an international organization which publishes one of the most influential World University Rankings.

Nitte (Deemed to be University) is also ranked 74th in NIRF 2020, features in 401-450 rank band of QS Asia University Rankings and has recently been graded “A+” by NAAC.

NMAMIT STUDENTS OUTSHINE IN ‘INDIA DESIGN WEEK 2020-2021’

The students of Mechanical Engineering of NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte secured first place in the prestigious INDIA DESIGN WEEK 2020-2021, a national-level technical design competition which had students from more than 400 colleges as participants.

Mr. Jason Dsilva and Mr. Melson Floyd Rodrigues of NMAMIT, Nitte won the Best Mechanical Designing Team Award. Sri Sriram Engineering College, Tamilnadu and Mepco Schlenk Engineering College won second and third places respectively.

India Design Week (IDW) is the largest Design Event for budding engineers who come together to learn, design and address various problem statements. The event had a jury of experts from top industries and academic institutions of India.





News from KSHEMA | Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Workshop

The Department of Paediatrics, KSHEMA under the aegis of Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP), National Neonatal Forum and in association with the IAP- Dakshina Kannada branch organized the Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Workshop on 3rd April, 2021. The program was conducted at NU-MEDISIM, KSHEMA.

The Lead Instructor was Dr Leslie Lewis, Professor & Head, Department of Paediatrics, KMC, Manipal assisted by three other faculty from Bangalore. About 24 postgraduate delegates from various colleges of Mangalore participated in the program.

Dr Swathi Shenoy, Senior Resident, Department of Paediatrics, coordinated the event. The Workshop was much appreciated by both delegates and instructors.

News from NMAMIt | RADIO NITTE, an internet radio station of NMAM Institute of Technology

RADIO NITTE, an internet radio station of NMAM Institute of Technology, the first of its kind in Karkala Taluk was inaugurated on 13th April 2021 by Mr. Girish Marathe, Sr. Manager, Micro Focus, Bengaluru.

Speaking briefly on the occasion, Mr. Marathe said that Internet Radio stations play an important role in spreading awareness on education, culture, social life, technology, healthcare, agriculture, sports etc.

‘Radio Nitte’ will air programs on various topics in English, Kannada, Hindi and Tulu languages from Monday to Friday, between 5 pm - 5.30 pm. People from all over the world can tune in, by downloading the ‘Radio Nitte’ app from Google Play store.

News from NGSMIPS | E-poster competition

The NSS Unit of NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences organized an E-poster competition for NSS volunteers on the topic, ‘Health Safety and Preventive Care in Pandemic Condition’ to celebrate World Health Day on 7th April 2021. 

Dr. Feby Lukose, Principal Project Associate, and Dr. Poorani Gananathan, Scientist 1 - DST NU-TEC, NUCSER were the judges for the event.

News from KSHEMA | Arivu-Neravu, a one-day workshop for children

Arivu-Neravu,  a one-day workshop for children from various orphanages and childcare homes in Mangalore was conducted by the Mangalore Police on 28th March 2021. 

This program was conceptualised with inputs from Dr Mahabalesh Shetty, HoD, Dept. of  Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, KSHEMA.
AAKAASH (Adolescents and Kids Abuse and Sexual Health) a screening tool has also been designed by the Dept. of Forensic Medicine for this purpose. 

The Departments of Community Medicine, Psychiatry and Paediatrics also participated and contributed greatly to the program. In addition, ten psychologists from  School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya counseled the children. Nearly 500 children were screened, cases of sexual and physical abuse were identified and a plan of action chalked out for specific cases. 

The contribution of doctors from Justice K.S Hegde Charitable Hospital was greatly appreciated by the Commissioner of Police, Mangalore.

The World Health Day was celebrated at Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy on 7th April 2021. Prof. Dr. Dhanesh Kumar K U welcomed the gathering. Prof. Dr. Mallikarjunaiah H S, Principal, Acharya’s NR Institute of Physiotherapy, Bangalore delivered a frontier lecture on ‘Building a fairer & healthier world for everyone’. He shared his knowledge regarding the importance of self-control, psychosocial health and physical health through an interactive session with the students.

An essay writing competition on the topic ‘My role in building a fairer and healthier world for everyone’ was held as part of the celebration. The event was coordinated by Ms. Shellette D’Almeida, Asst. Professor, Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy. The program was compered by Ms. Chaitanya Ratheesh. The final year BPT students attended the program.

News from Dr. NSAM PU College, Mangaluru | Career Guidance Program (CGP)

A Career Guidance Program (CGP) was organized by the Career Guidance Cell of Dr. NSAM PU College, on 19th March 2021 at the college auditorium. The resource person was Prof. Ronald Pinto, Director, Institute for Individual Development, Mangaluru who has vast experience in this field.

Principal, Dr. Naveen Shetty K in his presidential address said that many students are clueless about their academic interests or ambitions. CGP plays a vital role here, by helping students identify their aptitude and choose an appropriate course to match the same. The students are made aware of the various career options available and this would certainly help them in shaping their future.

Prof. Pinto inspired the young minds by highlighting the ample opportunities and career options they could choose from, with a Science or Commerce background. He explained the relative job prospects and benefits of most of the courses, the procedure to prepare and appear for competitive exams. He also emphasized that career decision being a significant decision in one’s life, the course should be selected without any compulsion from parents or peer pressure.

Ms. Geetha, Lecturer in Physics welcomed the gathering; Ms. Nalini Shetty introduced the resource person and Mr. Thrishik of II PU proposed the vote of thanks. All the second-year pre-university students were present for the program.

News from ABSMIDS | Workshop on “Capacity Building on Life Skills”

The Department of Public Health Dentistry, AB Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences organized a four-day workshop on “Capacity Building on Life Skills” from 16th to 19th March 2021 at AVISHKAR. Chief guest Prof. Dr. Harsha Halahalli, Director, Curriculum Development, Nitte DU, inaugurated the workshop along with the resource faculty Dr. Sushi Kadanakuppe, Reader, VSDC & Hospital, Bengaluru. The program was conducted for the different target audiences on the four days with separate modules.

NUCSER faculty wins Big at Nitte DU Research Awards 2019

Nitte (Deemed to be University) recognizes the achievements of the faculty in the field of research & innovation and felicitates star performers every year with citations & cash prizes.

The Research Awards 2019 was held on 31st March 2021 at Chinthana Hall, Justice KS Hegde Charitable Hospital. Dr. Deekshit, Asst. Professor, NUCSER, won the Best Researcher Award of Nitte DU for the year 2019. He also won the Best Researcher of NUCSER Award for the year 2019.

In the category of research papers, Dr. Juliet Mohan Raj, Asst. Professor and Dr. Indrani Karunasagar, Professor, NUCSER won the award for the Best Research Paper of NUCSER 2019. It was for the second successive year that NUCSER bagged the most coveted research award of the university.

News from NUCSER | Development Program on ‘Pedagogy of Teaching & Learning’

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell of Nitte University Centre for Science Education & Research (NUCSER), in association with the Staff Development Centre (SDC), Nitte DU conducted a Staff Development Program on 22nd March 2021 for the teaching faculty of the institute. The main objective of the program was to introduce the faculty to the concept of pedagogy in classroom teaching and to provide them with information on the use of structured teaching & learning. Dr. Smitha Hegde, Professor, NUCSER, was the resource person for the event.

Besides presentation on the concept of pedagogy by the resource person, the program also included hands-on sessions on effective pedagogy development in teaching & research by the faculty members. The activities included group discussions and games related to effective teaching & learning. The faculty members were divided into several groups and each group was given the opportunity to present their pedagogies. The sessions were thoroughly enjoyed by the participants and it was a day of total involvement and fun-filled activities, aimed at learning and experiencing things from different perspectives for the faculty.

Dr. Juliet Mohan Rai, NUeLearn Coordinator, NUCSER, thanked the resource person and all the faculty members for their active participation in the program. The training program was coordinated by Dr. Praveen Rai, Assoc. Professor, NUCSER.
