News from NUINS | NSS special camps

The NSS Unit of Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences organized NSS special camps with the First camp held from 28th February to 5th March 2022 at Belma Gram Panchayat, Deralakatte. The camp was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr) Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Vice-Chancellor, Nitte DU. Mr. Naveen Hegde, Public Development Officer & Shri. CM Abdul Sattar, President, Belma Gram Panchayat, Deralakatte; Mr. Shashikumar, NSS program Coordinator, Nitte DU, Prof. (Dr) Sabitha Nayak, Vice-Principal & Mrs. Cleeta Pinto, former NSS Program Officer, NUINS were present. The camp focused on Shramadan at various places under Belma Gram Panchayat, School health programs, Survey of the village, Screening camps (BMI, DM and monitoring BP), Awareness talks on Diabetes, Hypertension, Cancer, Leptospirosis, Malaria, Tuberculosis, Dengue and distribution of leaflet on Breast Self-examination.

The resource persons for the camp were Mrs. Niveditha Kamath from Swachha Manasu, Ramakrishna Mission, Mangaluru; Mrs. Parveena, Counselor, Yuvaspandana, Mangaluru; Prof. (Dr) Satheesh Rao, Dept. of Psychiatry; Mr. Mahesh Chowta, Asst. Director, Information Technology, Nitte DU & Mr. Sukesh Shetty, Asst. Professor, NUINS. 49 students and the residents of Belma gram panchayat benefited from the program.

The second NSS special camp was organized from 7th to 12th March 2022 at Kotekar Town Panchayat. The camp was inaugurated by Col. BS Ghivari, Asst. Director, Student Welfare, Nitte DU. Dr. Fatima Dsilva, Principal, NUINS; Mr. Shashikumar, NSS program Coordinator, Nitte DU, Mr. Vikram, Health Inspector and Ms. Malini, Chief Officer of Kotekar Town Panchayat were present. A total of 50 NSS volunteers, 13 Anganwadi workers, 9 ASHA workers and 14 Panchayat ward members attended the program. The residents of the area benefited from the program. This special camp had activities like Shramadan in Madoor, Madyar-Deralakatte, Ajanadka, Beeri; Bus stand painting, school awareness program, and awareness talks on waste management, communicable diseases and drawing competitions for school children at Bagambila. The Resource persons were - Mr. Vikram, Health Inspector, Kotekar Town Panchayath; Dr. Neetha Kamath, Head, Dept. of Community Health Nursing; Ms. Cleeta Pinto, Former NSS Program officer, NUINS; Prof. (Dr) Smitha Hegde, NUCSER, Dr. Shrinivas Bhat, Head, Dept. of Psychiatry, KSHEMA and Dr. Arun Thejaus, Nitte University - Centre for Integrative Medicine & Research (NU-CIMR).
