News from NMAMIT | A report on 36th Annual Athletic Meet 2022

The 36th Annual Athletic Meet of NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte was organized by the Dept. of Physical Education & Sports at the Athletics Ground of B.C. Alva Sports Complex, Nitte on 28th April 2022.

Sri. Vijaya Alva, Former Cricket Captain of Mangalore University inaugurated the sports meet. In his inaugural address Mr. Alva stressed the importance of sports activities to maintain the physical and mental health of any individual.

Dr. Niranjan N Chiplunkar, Principal, NMAMIT in his presidential remarks, motivated the students to take part in most of the sports competitions. Mr. Ganesh Poojary, Physical Education Director, NMAMIT welcomed the gathering. Ms. Sowjanya, Physical Education coach introduced the chief guest. Mr. Shyamsundar M, Sports Administrator delivered the vote of thanks. Dr. Roshan Fernandes, Assoc. Professor, Dept. of CSE was the master of the ceremony.

News from NUCSER | Nutrition awareness program “Poshan Pakhwada”

The NSS unit of NUCSER conducted a nutrition awareness program “Poshan Pakhwada” on 1st April 2022 to celebrate Nutrition Week. The Pakhwada is one of the key components to sensitize and engage communities, under POSHAN Abhiyaan along with Jan Andolan.

On the fourth anniversary of POSHAN Abhiyaan this year, NUCSER organized Poshan Pakhwada with a focus on addressing nutritional challenges based on Poshan Ke Panch Sutra. Dr. Arun Thejaus K P, Asst. Professor, Centre for Integrative Medicine & Research, Justice K S Hegde Charitable Hospital was the resource person. He spoke on various aspects of nutrition, diet and corrective measures for lifestyle diseases including the importance and correlation between healthy diet choices. He also stressed upon disease prevention and lifestyle improvement through nutritious food. Prof. Dr. Anirban Chakraborty, Director of NUCSER presided over the function.

About 100 students of I B.Sc. and I M.Sc attended the program. Dr. Rama Adiga, NSS Program Officer coordinated the event.





News from NUCSER | Peer Counsellors Training for students

The Student Wellness Centre, Nitte DU conducted a 10-hour Peer Counsellors Training for students of NUCSER spread across three months January to April 2022. The training included a total of five sessions with 2 hours of active engagement per session, conducted by the faculty of the Dept. of Psychiatry, KSHEMA and Student Wellness Centre, Nitte DU. The training was aimed at implementing supportive counselling intervention to the students by their peers. 

Prof. (Dr) Satheesh Rao, Prof. (Dr) Sreenivas Bhat from the Dept. of Psychiatry and Ms. Shreevidya, Ms. Agneita, and Mr. Aditya, Counsellors at the Student Wellness Centre were the resource persons for the sessions.

A total of 17 students representing I, II & III year BSc (Biomedical Science), I & II years MSc (Biomedical Science), MSc (Food Safety & Biotechnology), MSc (Microbiology), and MSc (Biotechnology) successfully completed the peer counsellors training. The training concluded with feedback and post-assessment from the students. 

The valedictory function was held on 1st April 2022. Prof. Dr. Anirban Chakraborty, Director, NUCSER commended the Nitte Wellness centre on its efforts in improving student mental health and encouraged the students to start their journey of peer counselling. He also opined that those empowered with this training will play a pivotal role in providing peer support.










News from NUCSER | Value-added course on Scientific Communication Skills

The 16-week value-added course on Scientific Communication Skills commenced on 20th April 2022 at NUCSER for PhD scholars across the institutes of the university, to familiarize the participants with the life-cycle of a publication; introduce various modes of scientific communications; outline the approaches and merits of each form of scientific communication.

On this occasion, a formal inaugural function was organized at the institute. Prof. (Dr) Rathnakar Urval, Head, Dept. of Pharmacology, Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences, Mangalore was the chief guest for the occasion. Prof. (Dr) Anirban Chakraborty, Director, NUCSER presided over the function. Prof. Urval briefed the participants about the merits of the courses on scientific communication and discussed various aspects of ethics in publishing scientific research. Dr. Arshdeep Sidhu, Asst. Professor and Coordinator of the value-added course organized the inaugural function.

Following the inaugural function, the first session of the course on ‘Concepts of life cycle of publication and Responsible authorship’ was conducted by Prof. Dr. Anirban Chakraborty.






News from ABSMIDS | Self-Defence Training Program - Swaraksha for Women

The Women’s Forum of AB Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences organized a Self-Defence Training Program - Swaraksha for Women for I BDS and I MDS students on 22nd April 2022. The resource person was martial artist Mr. Karthik S Kateel accompanied by his associate, Mrs. Shobhalatha from the ‘Swaraksha for Women Trust’, Mangalore.

The Principal & Dean, Prof. (Dr.) US Krishna Nayak presided over the function. Prof. (Dr) Amitha Ramesh, President, Women’s Forum welcomed the gathering and Dr. Sonika Achalli, Joint Secretary, Women’s Forum introduced the resource person. Prof. (Dr) Darshana Devadiga, Secretary, Women’s Forum delivered the vote of thanks. Dr. Supriya Bhat compered the program.

The training session included demonstrations of various situations of assaults & harassment, precautions to be taken during such situations, and the various options to defend using several techniques developed by Mr. Karthik S Kateel. It was an innovative step taken by the institution toward the safety & security of the female students and employees.

The program was attended by 117 participants.










News from NUCSER | Campus Recruitment drive

The Placement and Career Guidance Cell of NUCSER organised a Campus Recruitment drive for the final year undergraduate students of NUCSER and NGSMIPS on 20th April 2022.

M/s. Bio-Genics Lifecare, authorized life science and diagnostic marker distributor represented by Mr. Chandrashekar B.S, Sales Head, and Mr. Vijay Kumar B.U, Marketing Head, visited the institution and conducted the interview for the position of Business Development Executive. Around 21 students participated in the recruitment drive out of which four students were qualified for the HR round.

The overall experience and feedback from the Bio-Genics team were positive, as their need to quest for appropriate talent to drive their business objectives was fulfilled by our students. The program was coordinated by Dr. Akhila D.S, Member Secretary of the Institutional Placement Cell. Prof. Dr. Anirban Chakraborty thanked the team of Bio-Genics for the confidence reposed in Nitte students and appreciated their efforts in coming over and conducting the interview.





News from NMAMIT | Inauguration of upgraded unit operations and heat & mass transfer laboratories

The upgraded Unit Operations and Heat & Mass Transfer Laboratories of the Dept. of Biotechnology Engineering were inaugurated by Dr. Niranjan N Chiplunkar, Principal, NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte on 25th April 2022. 

Mr. Yogeesh Hegde, Registrar of Nitte Campus released the working manual of each experiment conducted in these laboratories. Ms. Harshitha MJ, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Biotechnology explained the working of the equipment to the guests.

Dr. IR Mithanthaya, Vice Principal & Dean (Academics), Dr. Srinivasa Rao, Vice Principal & CoE, and Dr. Ujwal P, Professor & Head, Dept. of Biotechnology were present.








News from NUCSER | Research Scholar Wins Anveshan 2021-22 Award

Mr. Yathisha UG, PhD scholar at the Division of Food Science & Nutrition won the First place in the Best Project (Basic Science) Category from the South Zone at the National level “Anveshan 2021-22” held at Academy of Maritime Education & Training (AMET), Chennai under the aegis of Association of Indian Universities (AIU) on 27th & 28th March 2022.

Mr. Yathisha is working on a project titled “Natural peptide from fish waste: A potent drug candidate for antihypertensive activity”.

Giridhar B H, Professor & Head, Department of Pulmonary Medicine, has been conferred with the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree under the Faculty of Biological Sciences by Nitte (Deemed to be University) for his thesis titled “Mutational Profiling of TP53 in Lung Cancer Patients and its Correlation with Smoking Status and Therapeutic Resistance.”

News from NSAM FGC, Nitte | Inauguration of New buildings

The new premises of Dr. Nitte Shankara Adyanthaya Memorial First Grade College, Nitte and Dr. Nitte Shankara Adyanthaya Memorial PU College, Nitte was inaugurated on 7th February 2022.

The Chief Guest of the ceremony was Mr. Sunil Kumar, Minister for Energy, Kannada and Culture, Government of Karnataka. Addressing the gathering he said “Nitte Institutions though located in a rural area, have gained fame worldwide in terms of Education and Healthcare. The government has brought reforms in education and has made provisions in the budget to implement the same. It is our Prime Minister’s vision of self-sustainability that has resulted in importance being given to education.”

The program was presided over by the Hon’ble Chancellor of Nitte DU, Sri. N. Vinaya Hegde. Speaking on the occasion he said “Our institution has empowered rural youth by providing quality education & healthcare. Nitte is our home and Nitte & Karkala should be recognised as prominent places in the world map”.

News from NMAMIT | Hair Donation Program

The Aura Club of NMAM Institute of Technology in association with Flyhigh Charitable Trust and Mercy Academy, Mangaluru organised a Hair Donation Program in the college campus on 21st April 2022. The main motive of this initiative was to help the cancer patients who undergo hair loss due to extreme medications. 

Dr. IR Mithanthaya, Vice Principal & Dean Academics along with Dr. Srinivasa Rao BR, Vice Principal & Controller of Examinations inaugurated the camp in the presence of Mrs. Mercy, Head of Mercy Academy. 14 students came forward to donate their hair for the cause.

The donated hair is woven into wigs and given to the cancer patients who cannot afford the expensive wigs generally costing around 40 to 50 thousand Rupees.

Mr. Ankith S Kumar, Student Counsellor, NMAMIT coordinated the event.

News from NMAMIT | National Business Quiz 'SPARDHA 2022'

NMAM Institute of Technology congratulates Shrikrishna and Swasthika, the winners of the National Business Quiz 'SPARDHA 2022' organised by Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Cooperative Management (VAMNICOM), Pune on 8th April 2022.

In the first round, 204 teams from across India participated in the Business Quiz, which focused on agricultural and allied sectors. 30 teams qualified for the second round which comprised of Current Affairs, Business Strategies, Politics and Economics. 7 teams qualified for the National Finals of the Quiz, which was conducted offline at VAMNICOM campus, Pune. 

NMAMIT bagged the First place in the National Finals of SPARDHA 2022. Shrikrishna from IV ISE and Swasthika from IV CSE represented the college in the event. 

Swasthika also won the Third prize in "Screening of Minds - Chathurya" solo event. 252 institutes across India participated in the first round. 10 candidates were selected for the offline final round held at VAMNICOM campus on 8th & 9th of April 2022. The final round comprised of Situation Reaction Test and Personal Interview.

News from NMAMIT | A Guest Talk on “Basic Taxonomy & Doctrine of Signature”

The Institute of Engineers (India) IEI-Student’s Chapter and the Department of Biotechnology, Engineering, NMAMIT organized a Guest Talk on “Basic Taxonomy & Doctrine of Signature” on 21st April 2022 at Shambavi Seminar Hall, NMAMIT, Nitte.

The IEI-BT Chapter Coordinator Dr. Santhosh Poojary welcomed the speakers. Dr. Ujwal P, Professor & Head, Dept. of Biotechnology addressed the gathering. She highlighted the significance of identifying the plant species in and around the campus. 

The resource persons, Dr. Rajesh B and Dr. Keshavachandra K, from the PG Department of Botony, Alva`s College, Moodabidri covered the basic aspects of Taxonomy. 

Dr. Narasimha Marakala, IEI College Coordinator from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, distributed the money-plant saplings to the guest speakers as a token of gratitude.

The faculty members, non-teaching staff, research scholars and students of the Department of Biotechnology Engineering actively participated in the event. 





News from Dr. NSAM First grade college, Nitte | NSS Annual Special Camp

A seven-day NSS Annual Special Camp was held at Government Higher Primary School, Nandalike, Belman from 14th to 20th February 2022 with the support of Mr. Karunakar Nayak, Headmaster, Govt. Higher Primary School, Nandalike. The camp was inaugurated by Mr. Suhas Hegde, Businessman, Nandalike.

Dr. Veena Kumari B.K., the Principal, presided over the program. NSS volunteers of the college decked the wall of the Government Higher Primary School at Nandalike with Warli art under the guidance of Mr. Bharath S. Bhat, NSS Program Officer, Ms. Anusha, NSS Program Officer and Mr. Sachin Kumar, Asst. Professor of the college and with the help of Nandalike Gram Panchayath. 150 NSS volunteers actively participated in this annual special camp.



Dr. NSAM First Grade College, Nitte | A workshop on Cyber Crime Awareness

In today’s digital world, where people are increasingly wired to social media and the internet, the concerns of cyber security are at its peak. Hence, cyber hygiene is pertinent. With this notion, Dr. NSAM First Grade College, Nitte hosted a workshop on Cyber Crime Awareness on 15th March 2022.

Dr Ananth Prabhu G, Cyber Law & Security Expert conducted an interactive session with the students and staff about the perils of internet. The focus of the session was to create awareness about the usage of internet and networking devices which is a part and parcel of everyone’s life. The entire session was meticulously designed and executed as it covered a wide range of issues from digital fraud to morphing. Dr. Ananth Prabhu G. shared measures that could be easily taken by the users to avoid being victims of cybercrimes. He shared information of various helpful government websites and explained how one must be mindful while using the internet.

News from Dr. NSAM First Grade College, Nitte | Parent Teacher meeting

The Parent Teacher meeting was held on 7th March 2022 at Dr. NSAM FGC, Nitte. The chief guest of the program Dr. Virupaksha Devaramane, Psychiatrist, Dr. A.V. Baliga Memorial Hospital, Udupi inaugurated the program and gave an inspiring speech. He mentioned that parental concern for the child should not diminish and parents should not have any unnecessary fears about their future and asked them to be friendly with their child. He also stressed that parents should encourage their children and fulfill their interests.

Addressing the gathering, the Principal, Dr. Veena Kumari BK informed that parents should spend quality time with their children and must also focus on their academic activities. She informed the audience about the new college building, infrastructure, educational activities & programs likely to be introduced during the next academic year, with the college coming under the ambit of Nitte University.

Mr. Prakash B, IQAC Coordinator of the college welcomed and introduced the chief guest to the gathering. Mr. Ramesh M, Student Welfare Officer rendered the vote of thanks. Mrs. Rekha, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Commerce & Management hosted the ceremony.
