News from NUINS | "Apathbandhu" A training program for rural volunteers in first aid & emergency care for rural volunteers from Soorinje Village, Surathkal – sponsored by MRPL-ONGC

‘APATHBANDHU’ - a training program in first aid and emergency care for rural volunteers from Soorinje Village, Surathkal was organized by Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences, Institution Innovation Council, Nitte University, NU-MEDISIM and Department of Anaesthesiology & Critical Care, KSHEMA on 3rd & 4th June 2022. The program was sponsored by MRPL-ONGC, Mangalore.

A total of 14 rural volunteers were trained in first aid & emergency skills - hand hygiene, vital signs, wound dressing, bandaging & restraining, cardio pulmonary resuscitation, management of poisonous bite, hemorrhage control, trauma care - cervical spine stabilization, shifting & transfer, management of foreign body aspiration, management of burns and convulsion.

Shri. Jeethendra Shetty, President, Soorinje Panchayath was the Chief Guest and Shri. Uttam Bonsade, PDO was the Guest of Honour. Dr. Srinikethan, Director, Technical Research & Innovation, Nitte DU expressed that the trainees should make use of the skills taught in the training, during emergencies and save the life of the rural people. The trainees Mrs. Padma and Mr. Dawood, expressed their opinion about the program. The Apathbandhu kit and certificates were distributed to all the volunteers by Dr. Srinikethan, and Shri Jeethendra Shetty. Dr. Neetha Kamath of NUINS, welcomed the guests and briefed about the program. Dr. Sabitha Nayak, Vice-Principal proposed the vote of thanks. The program was compered by Ms. Akshatha.
