News from NUINS | Lamp lighting ceremony

The SNA members (2022-23) of Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences organized the Lamp lighting ceremony on 28th October 2022 at the University Auditorium, Paneer for I year BSc (N) students under the guidance of SNA President Prof. Dr. Fatima Dsilva and SNA Advisor Mrs. Melba Drago. 

Dr. Florine Clara Fernandes, Principal, Srinivas Institute of Nursing Sciences, Mangalore was the Chief Guest. 

The program started with the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries and program coordinators - Dr. Florine Clara Fernandes; Prof. Dr. Fatima Dsilva, Principal, NUINS; Ms. Cleeta Pinto, Principal, School of Nursing; Ms. Melba Drago, SNA Advisor; Ms. Prathima Sherigarthy, Class Coordinator of I year B.Sc (N) and Ms. Ajal Mariya George, SNA Vice President, NUINS. Ms. Shreya Thomas rendered a prayer song. 

Mrs. Melba Drago, SNA Advisor delivered the welcome address. The Chief Guest and other dignitaries paid floral tribute to Ms. Florence Nightingale, the pioneer of nursing as a mark of respect and dignity. Thereafter the students' lamps were lit by the HoDs and senior faculty. Mrs. Cleeta Pinto, Principal, School of Nursing administered the oath to the students. 







The Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. Florine Clara Fernandes addressed the importance of lamp lighting as it is a ceremony that formally recognizes the student's entry into the nursing profession. The lamp symbolizes the light that a nurse becomes to her patients as also a symbol of hope and comfort to those suffering. She emphasized the importance of being a good and compassionate nurse by highlighting the qualities of a nurse. 

Prof. Dr. Fatima Dsilva, SNA President & Principal, NUINS delivered the presidential address. She congratulated and wished the students well for choosing nursing as a career. She emphasized on the devotion, determination and dedication that one should have as a nurse for taking good care of patients. 

Ms. Prathima Sherigarthy, Class Coordinator of I year BSc (N) proposed the vote of thanks. 20 faculty members & 130 students attended the program.
