News from NIA | Field-visit session for the participants of Mangalore Placemaking week

Nitte Institute of Architecture hosted a field-visit session for the participants of Mangalore Placemaking week on 02-12-2022. 

Urban public spaces are venues of public activities and they play very important role in the quality of life of city dwellers. Nitte Institute of Architecture hosted a field-visit session for the participants of Mangalore Placemaking week on 02-12-2022. About 80 participants comprising of professionals, academicians and students from India and abroad participated in the event to understand the current situation of public space in the historic Bunder port of Mangalore. Some of the notable places visited during the session include the famous Zeenath Baksh Masjid, Albuquerque Tile factory, Dakke Fish market, Spice markets etc. Participants recorded the multi-sensorial experiential journey, interacted with local community to understand the perceptions of people towards the public spaces, identified some key issues and discussed some ideas for improving the quality of public spaces.
